  • This is my 1954 Lawnboy with the original Briggs and Stratton 6B-H engine. It starts, runs, and cuts very well. One of the oldest Lawnboys you will ever see, especially with a 4 cycle engine.

OHSA would go crazy. The kill switch took me back. What else can the Feds screw up. I'm surprised you're not doing 35 to life just for having this. Work of art.

'54 was the first year because Lawn Boy purchased Iron Horse (which had a rotary engine) the previous year and basically re-branded the Iron Horse mower, ultimately popularizing and making the rotary motor push mower famous whilst becoming the first production-line manufacturer of complete power mowers.

the "LO-TONE" mufflers came out in the late 1950's, that is not the original muffler, it would have had the "DOG BONE" muffler on it( p/n 89966). lawn boy( O.M.C.) was started by steve briggs, who left briggs & stratton in 1948. there is also an "A" modal that had a 2cycle lawson engine that was produced in 1953.

On the nomenclature, the 1st 2 numbers of the serial section denote the year.

With the discharge in the rear corner, it stabilizes the deck.

Starts just like my 1972 Ski-Doo Tn'T Snowmobile, wrap the rope each pull lol.
Sweet mower!! Just curious, Were those ancient Briggs 4 cycle decent quality? I've always been a LB 2 cycle fan, they're mostly bulletproof...light years better (as long as you're able to do occasional basic wrenching) than all the 4 cycle junk at your local Home Depot etc.
