New PS5 Error CE-108255-1 : Is my New Console Bricked?

- In this video I discuss the New PS5 Error CE-108255-1. This error happened at launch for a lot of Sony PlayStation 5's. CE-108255-1 causes the application or game that you are playing to crash. Your game will remain frozen for 5 seconds until you are brought to a report message window.
After some research, it looks like this may be a hardware problem. This may be an issue with the CPU or GPU. Watch the video to find out more.
A few things you should not do when getting this error code.
1. Do not rebuild the PS5 database. This is may fully brick your console. I would not do this until you are sure Sony says it is ok
2. Report this issue to Sony either directly to PlayStation customer service, or through AskPlaystation on Twitter. Direct message them to tell them what happened.

Lol, thats pretty good.
Buy at launch and this is most likely ur story too🤣
But pay doesn't :)
I buyed it after the lunch by 5 months and its the lunch model
I have the digital and randomly have the issue
Bruh I feel like the only person with a perfectly fine PS5 hopefully they solve these problems for you guys
Im glad its working for you. Hopefully Sony finds a fix for whoever else is going through this. .
@@Not2NerdyENT I have not had game errors but I did get a system error at the home screen and it forced a restart. Sucks lol I got that error within the 1st hour of use xD
Dont speak so early. I said the same thing as mine worked perfectly the 1st 2 weeks and now it doesnt work.
@@Ethan-pr1zh Yea that is true. So far my newest PS5 is working great. But I have to wait and see what happens. Lol the first 2 couldnt even play games. This one has played for hours.
@@Not2NerdyENT mine is still kicking 2 months later just about. I managed to snag a series x which was way harder to get my hands on. Since neither consoles have many next gen games at all they pretty much have to play back compatible games. Unfortunately back compat on ps5 has nothing on the series x which plays pretty much every game in 4k where my ps5 doesnt which really sucks. Sony needs to get on that because I'm finding myself not really playing my ps5 until some good games come out.
I have this issue with the disk version. It’s happening often with no man’s sky (ps5 version on console), cyberpunk (ps4 version on external), and Valhalla (ps5 version on console). Time range is from 5-45 minutes of play. Diablo 3 from external ssd doesn’t seem to crash.
Had a really frustrating conversation with Sony today.
The chat agent confirmed it was a console issue, punted me to the hardware team, who said they can’t do anything or give any info after a ninety minute hold time.
The error page on the website even seems to have been updated to recommend we submit a repair request, but they don’t say where to submit that and the Sony fix/replace web site goes through some troubleshooting instructions before recommending I call that same worthless call center. Tremendously frustrating and disheartening.
The problem is that it's a generic error code that can be caused by tons of different things. The Sony rep told me that on the phone recently. In some cases, it'll no doubt be software or firmware related, in other cases, it might be hardware but a lot of different things can trigger this same error message.
I agree. Some games will cause this error message. But unfortunately, people will have some hardware issues that cant be fixed and will need to replace it.
then how come ps4 games work perfectly.??????
Bro my ps5 turns off every time I play vanguard, now I've purchased gt7 and it's the same thing I have no clue what's going on it's doing my head in, never shuts down when I play ps4 games so wtf is this shit why is my ps5 shutting down ? What's your opinion?
@@2tone.851 That sounds like hardware if it's regularly happening. Try contacting Sony hopefully they will be able to repair or place for you
@@alexoperez935 ikr I’m literally playing ps4 games but ps5 games don’t work
Rest mode seems to be an issue too. It’s buggy on some. I recommend not using rest mode.
Yea, that's definitely something people have been saying.
Found your video from reddit! Keep up the great work. Hope both of our channels keep growing. Just subbed!
Thanks for watching
Played Cold War (PS4 version on PS5) yesterday for a few hours and I had this error pop up twice. Both times I submitted the error to PlayStation whatever and have not had issues since. Yesterday I also played sackboy (PS5 disc on the PS5) it crashed once randomly after I was already playing for a couple hours. Submitted the error to PlayStation again. Played all day today and didn’t have any issues with either game. I have the disc version PS5. Praying it’s something that can be fixed via software update as my issues don’t seem as severe as most but who knows. Great video man!
I agree, I hope its something that can be fixed. Hopefully we get answers soon. Clearly a lot of users have this issue.
Me too
I've seen one comment on Twitter regarding the digital edition having this error. Some people on Reddit are saying that the customer support they've gotten in touch with are adamant that Sony is aware of the issue and is working on a way to fix it - that being said, they could be saying that to cover their asses, and multiple other support staff have advised that the console will need to be sent in. I've also read one comment on Reddit that stated they found a temporary fix to the issue, which was by turning your network settings off in the PS5 settings, and then turning them back on after you're in the main menu of whatever game you're playing. Yet to try this myself, but some others appear to have tried this and it has failed for them, so I'm really not confident that'll work.
Personally, I haven't had a PS4 game crash on me, that being said the only games I've tried are Persona 5 and Crash 4. But one different thing that happened to me after Astro's Playroom crashed was that instead of being brought back to the home screen with the error, my PS5 tried turning itself off, but was stuck in a stasis of blinking blue lights. Had to pull the plug and thought for sure my console would be bricked after that but it turned on fine.
Here's to hoping Sony gets their stuff together. If it's a software issue, I'd expect it would be hotfixed by the time the European consoles release. If not, I hope they hurry up and address the situation.
I'm worried we might have to send them back, and its a bigger issue than what they are telling people. I will try the Network trick. As much as I know stuff like this happens at launch, it still sucks when it happens to you.
@@Not2NerdyENT, my console (disc version) is doing this too. I've been trying to troubleshoot and here is what I have so far. First, whether it's an original PS5 version of the game or an upgraded from PS4 version, the game crashes. Example: I bought Miles Morales PS5 disc and it crashes. I then bought a PS4 copy of the game, did the digital upgrade to PS5 and tried to play it, but it still crashed. That said, the PS4 version plays just fine. Second, this issue does not seem to impact all games. For instance, Miles Morales PS5, Astro Playroom, and Watch Dogs Legion PS5 (digital upgrade) all crash. But, Assassin's Creed Valhalla (digital upgrade) works just fine. I say all that to say, so far I cannot tell if it is a hardware or software issue. I would expect a hardware issue to cause problems for all power hungry games and I cannot imagine that AC: Valhalla isn't power hungry. *Shrug* I'm looking forward to your updates.
@@MrAAgabriel This is strange. If this is a Software issue, then it was probably that Day one patch that changed something. Hopefully they get it fixed soon. Or at least tell us whats wrong.
@@MrAAgabriel For me AC:Valhalla crashes with the error, right at the start of it, got as far as talking to the dude in the room you first enter after the doors, sometimes it crashes at the door , other times anytime after, but not got past talking to Viska i think his name was. Amazon Prime video app crashes with same error and at various points, sometimes right at the start, other times when viewing all the shows to watch. Cannot imagine Amazon prime to be a power hungry app that strains cpu/gpu. Disney app no problems
You know what’s so funny about the PS5 problems!? When the ps4 slims an ps4 pros came out they had the same issues, the screen glitching games constantly crashing the same problems the ps5s are currently having.
An I asked myself? I’ve bought two ps4 pros an a slim an they all failed, failed for the same reasons, an when you hard reset SSDdrives they break down badly due to SSD drive don’t hold up over time well at all, with that being said bricking console are a thing for the ps4 an the same thing is happening to the ps5 an when I called Sony about my ps4s, he slipped up an said the first two units were made with bad gpus an cpus which mean software updates won’t fix the issues an has left me to understand the same issue is happening with the ps5... an I’m sorry, but for 500$ they’re is no excuse why these consoles shouldn’t work from day one with no Issue..... sending in a console an having to wait months to get it back is by far fucking retarted an honestly I’m staying away from Sony if my ps5 fucks up.. so far no problems, but every time I search on CZcams “ps5 problems” they’re is more vids uploaded daily... I’m sorry Xbox won this battle by far so far.
I have digital version with this problem. PS4 versions of the games work. PS5 versions don’t. Astro works fine
I didn't think the Digital Version had this issue too. So even more people may have this issue. And it seems random now. Interesting. Thanks for watching. I will update when I know more. Let us know if you get it fixed.
Yea Cold War is doing that for me. But demons souls and astros playroom is fine
@@Not2NerdyENT yeah I'm having the same issue and I have a digital edition as well
They released a Software update today that “improves performance” but it did not solve this problem. I’m starting to get worried it might be hardware
Damn, I got all excited when I heard they put out a new update but I've been reading that it's done nothing to fix this issue. Looks like this isn't the patch we're looking for :(
Yea, thats a shame.
I think if this is a software issue like they keep telling us, it'll likely come in the next big patch in the coming days. The one today probably fixed the easy issues
@@vikvarma6628 lets hope so
Not2NerdyENT either way i literally just copped another from ps direct and can return my defective one for a full refund so hoping this one isnt defective
Short answer - Logic issues with southbridge chip usually causes that error. Pretty common on 12ARZ Boolean chips - systems with that chip set will have issues but the new chips under 12ARZT will not have it as the logic has been fixed. If SB is having issues it will usually cook the CPU as it tries to rev up the fans to bypass the issues.
Fix is bascially re flashing the chips and checking the stability and frequency outputs.
I hope not. But it may be a possibility now.
This was a year ago. Has the rebuilding issue been fixed? That will happen when you get an update.
I just got me a PS5 Saturday at Gamestop. I'm new to the PS5 but have a PS4 Pro as well.
My ps5 froze 2x on cod cold war and ever since it has not froze hopefully it doesn’t happen again
Yea lets hope you have no more issues.
My sony playstore crashes on ps5 idk why man and it don't crash or anything it just says cant find
@@bulletray3214 Yea that one is weird. I haven't seen that.
Every time I finish a match in Cold War I get a error
My console crashed playing watch dogs legion, I was notified of that error and every time I try to enter the game it re-marks the error, it became unplayable, will this be solved with an update or will I have to contact the warranty?
Honestly, it doesnt look good for some consoles. Mine is starting to get worse.
Hey there Just saw smthg on reddit and it worked for me. Got the same code on CoD PS5. My PS5 was on french canadian, turned it on english US, all works... I know it sounds crazy. Gg
Heres my situation. I missed out on launch but I have a December 8 pre order as well as a 2021 pre order. Do you think I should cancel the December 8 pre order with these issues happening and stick with the 2021 one I have ?
No you shouldn't. If there's a situation where it is a hardware issue, Sony would recall the consoles in stores and will replace them with working one. If its a software issue, there should be a patch before then. You should be good by then. Just wait for the announcement.
I’m getting these issues with all games, both physical and disc. A few times it crashed the entire system
Its weird that its not the same for everyone. Some people may crash for some games, and others will crash for every game. Really weird.
Before the crashes, I also see some very light stretched artifacts. Definitely the GPU, and if it gets patched with software, it is going to get underclocked is my guess.
@@SoyDelSouth I hope not. But I'm worried that is true.
If it's a power issue, I'm going to say it's the power supply. Mostly because there's been reports of the coil humming. If the power supply is weak, then it's not going to be able to supply enough voltage to the CPU, GPU or any other part, when it's called for. Sony probably went with the lowest cost provider for the power transformer and odds are, the power supplies are just not meeting specs on all unites because of cheap parts.
Yikes. If that turns out to be the issue, that was a horrible mistake they made. We shall find out soon.
@@Not2NerdyENT if it turns out to be an issue with power supply not providing enough power, Sony could update the firmware and just slow the CPU/GPU down to reduce voltage requirements. Most users would never notice their unit has been throttled back.
If you're interested in how voltage is used in CPU/GPU speed, Google overclocking.
BTW, in the PC world, with Nvidia's recently launched 30 series graphics cards. Lots of people had to upgrade their power supply to keep their machines from crashing. Nvidia high end graphics cards are power hogs.
its 2023 and I'm still getting the code. I my case it happens during some instances in game, probably related to graphics and cpu indeed. It happens mostly with the surge 1 and 2 games...
Moi aussi
Glad I watched this video, was told by Sony to rebuild the database. I was suspicious of that and tried looking online for people also experiencing these issues.
I have disc version as well, Astro’s playroom and bugsnax has worked for me, but the digital spider man remastered keeps freezing when loading into different scenes. This latest freeze stalled the entire console, made it freak out. Didn’t unplug, just held power button down for like 20 seconds until it finally shut down “improperly”. Scared to keep using it.
Some people said they rebuild their database and it didn't brick their console. But it also didn't fix the issue. So it's not even worth the risk. Let's wait to see what Sony says. I will post a follow-up on this issue when I get more Answers.
Thanks for the video, my dude. I’ve been dealing with this issue as well. Spider-Man/Watch Dogs both crash at the loading screen. I’ve been able to play Demon Souls for about 30 minutes before it crashes. Astro and AC Valhalla haven’t crashed yet though. I’ve tried a number of options suggested by PlayStation reps, but with no success - reset factory settings, restored game licenses, deactivated/reactivated the console, etc. At other’s suggestion, I’ve also tried signing in as a guest and disconnecting from the internet (no success). One of the support specialists I spoke with stated that it’s a widespread issue, and that Sony is working on a patch. That said, like you, the fact that some people are not impacted makes me wonder if this is a hardware issue. Anyway, best of luck to you all. Fingers crossed that this can be patched.
Many software bugs and issues don't impact every one
The thing I dont like is that Sony doesnt tell all of there reps what is going on. They shouldn't be telling people to reset anything since they know it doesnt work for people. They should just say its an issue and they are waiting for a solution.
Mine crashed today playing miles morales and destiny 2 😭 I really hope a patch is all the console needs.
Its a shame that this is happening to so many people.
Is it still happening?
@@wessyder112 nope. hopefully it stays that way lol.
I brought my console 2nd hand off eBay for 750 and today I played miles and it crashed while I was riding rhino when I had to press the L2 and R2 button but after 5hrs off playing I realised you need to lay your console flat as it let's out hot air from the back if you have it standing up that could also be a reason for crashing and stuff
My situation is that most of my games work except for Spiderman Miles Morales (unless I change Game Preset Default to Performance) and Astro's Playroom so far. I performed all the troubleshooting and still can't get those two to run properly. I just got off the phone with Sony support they said that they are not doing replacements for users who are experiencing the CE-108255-1 as this error is under investigation. They are only doing replacements for issues with the system powering off automatically. So for us that have jacked up games, we are just stuck out of luck? That is a bunch of BS.
Are you still having issues?
Same error CE-108255-1 on two different consoles I bought (one for me, one for my brother). After multiple tries at getting thru to PS customer support, finally got ahold of someone. She said Sony engineers are aware and are working on a fix. The first console experienced it on Miles Morales, second console on COD Black Ops Cold War.
Hopefully Monday they announce a fix. Thanks for watching.
Did u get a fix ?
Yes I have the same issue it’s just on Spider-Man not Astro , Astro works fine I hate how they just give you the phone number and they do help you but like It dosent fix it . Playstation should really just say at least we’re trying to fix it please give us some time not just go radio silent
For Spider-man, make sure your console does not go into rest mode. That's the only time I've heard that the PS5 gets bricked.
I have done rest mode for spider man as well and experienced freezing issues. No more rest mode for me.
i spent over a hour on the phone with customer support. he said " The engineers are aware of the problem and are working diligently to fix it"
Did they say if they’re we’re gonna release an update for the “system software error”?
@@marentes133 i called and the guy I spoke to said that there should be an update soon to fix the issue. There was an update today, was hoping it would fix it but nope.
@@estradae775 i knew it wouldn’t be a fix given it was only 800mb, I just wanna play my damn console man but thank you for letting me know 🙏🏻
@@marentes133 yeah man i hear you. I was only able to play it for about 10 hours before I had this stupid issue.
Diligently is a strong word.
I am getting the same error on all PS5 games I have: Watch Dogs Legion, Miles Morales, Spiderman PS5 Remake, and of course Astro's Playroom. I have not been able to get any of them to load for even one second before the crash and error. I first started worrying during the initial PS5 setup when there were these constant visual blips that looked like weird matrix code running vertically down the screen, but that seems to have gone away. I have done 3 full resets, both from the main menu as well as from booting from safe mode and using the USB method recommended by Sony's troubleshooting site. Nothing has helped. I chatted Sony who advised me to go through the reset process, and then proceeded to tell me they could not help and I would have to call. So I called, and after 40 times of getting the message that there were too many callers and it hanging up on me, I finally got an agent. He assured me it is strictly a software issue with the game titles and they are working with "all the developers" to get it fixed, which seems strange considering Astro's Playroom is a Sony game preloaded on the console. I also found it a little strange he asked me to provide him the model number on the side of the console. Were there different models or versions that have been produced in this initial run?

Just an idea: try to unlpug the PS5 and leave it without power for a few minutes, then plug it back. That may eliminate the potential issue of some "uninitialized stuff" in memory causing random problems that will change only when the system is unpowered for long enough (happens in software dev, even to the best developers)
Power cycles are good to do at times for devices. Unfortunately, it still doesn't help this issue it seems.
2023 still have this issue. Every single PS5 game gets this error one minute into every game.
Did you get a resolution? Having this issue with a 2 year old console, freeze crashing to this error on multiple games. Also, resetting didn't resolve this.
@@mackadams5049 Nope, pretty sure it's a hardware defect because I've tried absolutely every troubleshooting method, I even erased everything and factory reset it. I am sending it in for repair soon but I have to pay $250 out of pocket since it's out of the 1 year warranty period. They said if they find something they might fix or replace it. If they don't find anything wrong they will send it back with the money I paid and I'll just throw it in the trash.

Is it a bad thing, it may be. But I wouldn't stop playing the PS5 because you are worried. You should be enjoying the games you purchased. If it fails and or breaks, Sony needs to replace it for you. Enjoy your games if you can.
My console just crashed and went to a black screen after trying to play ps4 games from my external HD.
I would be careful playing off your Hard drive until this is fixed. Just to protect your hard drive from getting messed up.
The exact same happened to me today. Twice. It was fine when I was playing MHW Iceborne with my brother, but after I tried to play another ps4 game off my external harddrive it crashed again. I unplugged my external harddrive at this point; not risking it anymore.
My ps5 games have all been fine though.

I feel u bro I have the same problem but just with call of duty cold ware 😩⚡️⚡️⚡️
I just spoke to someone who had the same exact issue. His call of duty cold war kept crashing and giving him error code CE-108255-1 five minutes into the game. He just told me and said he has fixed the issue. His console/game settings were on French Canadian language setting and he has changed them to American English and he told me his game works perfectly fine now! Try the following and comment below if it solves the issue. If you're already on American English and having the same problem then idk lol. But I'm sure that the issue is software related and probably really dumb. A minority of people are probably having this issue at random because of some settings that they probably chose. Hence when a console reset is done, choosing the same settings again defeats the purpose of resetting the console and starts the issue all over again.
Yea, unfortunately its not a language issue for me. And This is definitely a pretty widespread issue. And Sony is currently working on a fix. They even stopped taking call support today because they are getting a lot of calls. Hopefully its just software. But I cant rule out it wont be a hardware issue until they come out with a statement. Thanks for watching and sharing. Appreciate it.

I personally had a different issue that the one you are describing.. I can play Call of Duty Cold War or Spider-Man for most of the day.. but it seems like at some point during the day while playing the game will freeze and the console will shut itself down.. and upon booting the console back up it will give me a black screen reading repairing the storage.. then will boot up like normal.. The most informative video I've found so far, thanks for confirming my suspicions dude! Power issues or overheating from bad liquid metal. I'll swap the power supply and change the liquid metal and see what it does. That should confirm it.
Any news, it works?
@@d1mi3oS Unfortunately not, it was none of those two issues. There was clear artifacting in game graphics when I was testing it before returning it to the customer which is an indication that the chip is dying and there's nothing to do to save it once it overheats enough when the liquid metal goes bad.
If this console was serviced properly just after going out of warranty there would have been a very high chance of it surviving until today but the owner continued stressing it way past the warranty without replacing the liquid metal. This smells like planned obsolesence but on the other hand we all know that thermal compounds and liquid metal don't last forever so who knows.
I've been all over trying to see if others have been having this issue, and thankfully I'm not alone this time.
So far, Spiderman Miles Morales and CoD Cold War (both disc versions) freeze up on me within a minute or less of starting them up. Astro's Playroom, Godfall, and Bugsnax all work fine ( though Godfall has this weird stuttering issue after I play for a while).
Weirdly enough I had this same exact issue on my PS4 Pro, and I thought switching over to a PS5 would eliminate that for good, but clearly that's not the case :/
As much as I didn't wish others had the same issue, it's better because it puts more pressure on Sony to fix this quickly.
@@Not2NerdyENT Oh absolutely, I wish none of us were having these issues right now either. It's just that when it was happening to me on the PS4 it felt like I was the only one really having this same exact issue, and I could never figure out why most games worked and a select few didn't at all.
Really appreciate you trying to see whats going on, and putting this video out so that we can all compare notes. Here's hoping Sony gives us some kinda answer sooner than later

The same issue, I have been able to play some of the PS4 version of my PS5 games. When I first got it, I played 2k21 for about an hour or so. Then the game crashed so I switched to Miles Morales. That's when the system crashed and I am unable to play any PS5 Game whatsoever. I rebuilt the database, reset the system to default, I even loaded system software from a USB drive, nothing changes. Also, something I have noticed is, when the system is about to crash, there are major artifacts on the screen. I like to call them "sparkles". I can't wait until Monday to call Sony.
I haven't seen that on my console, but people have said that there are major artifacts on the screen.
@@Not2NerdyENT UPDATE- I was able to play a few of my games using a guest account. I also have had some success logging in after the initial setup instead of during setup.
I'm experiencing the same issues on my disc version of the PS5. One thing that I didn't hear you mention is the coil whine/buzzing sound. Can you check on yours? Let's try to figure out if they are related. To my ear, the sound comes from where the SSD controller is supposed to be, somewhere right under the fan. It gets louder when under load and the only time the sound really goes off is during the black screen period after the game freezes and before I see the error message screen.
So far, I went through the same steps as you did and nothing worked. I've contacted Sony and now I'm awaiting a feedback from their side, which was promised somewhere before the end of next week.
I've heard that noise a few time. And it was actually only when I tried to Install Call of Duty. You heard the noise then.
Also, did you update your console with the new patch that was sent out. That did not fix my other PS5 that has this error code. I saw some people say the same thing. Just curious if it actually helped people since it says the patch should fix that issue.

So I just got off the phone with Playstation Support. The guy told me that with all the information they have right now they basically ruled out any type of hardware issue. He told me they are certain it is a software issue thet will be solved with a patch "sooner rather than later" he said.
That is great news. I hope this is true. But I will wait until they officially announce it. Sometimes they say this stuff because corporate doesn't have a plan at that moment if they need to send in consoles. But that will be great if its definitely software issues.
I hope he told me the truth
well 9 months later and the problem still isn’t solved
19 months later I still get this error code
THIS IS A HARDWARE ISSUE
I bought a brand new PS5 this week and couldn't play more than 15 mins on any game without getting this error code. Tried all of these fixes and still no luck. Thankfully I took it back to where I bought it and they just gave me a new one, the guy there said it is a known issue, faulty graphic card. New one is working fine.
So mine should be arriving on Nov 19th from Walmart here in Canada.... now I am thinking of just returning it to the store when it comes in... what warranty comes with just the system from Sony? I didn't grab any...
Thanks again.
You dont have to worry about returning it. You should have some sort of idea what the fix is before your console comes.

Here’s my story... got the ps5 on launch day. Played Demons Soul like crazy no problems. I went to sleep and put the damn thing on rest mode... next morning, rebuild database error, which i did and then no problems for a week. Now since yesterday, Demon Soul is crashing randomly with error ce-108255-1. It is a disk version. I also have Godfall ( disk version ) and this one never crashed for now. Assassin Creed Valhalla is a digital one and no problems alongside with rocket league, civ6 etc which are all digital version. I am really concerned after seeing your video that my console will be going downhill from now on...
You may be ok still. Hopefully Sony can get a fix for it. Have you considered shutting down the ps5 when you are done so it doesn't go into rest mode? And also turning off rest mode. Just until Sony maybe comes up with a patch.
Man my ps5 crashes and shuts down anytime I try to play a game.
Thats a shame. I wish it wasn't this widespread and that it was only a few consoles. But it looks like a lot of people have this issue.

Yea unfortunately they are not taking any calls today. So that means they are preparing for something. Probably preparing their support team with a script of what to say. Maybe they will find a patch. Or at worst they are preparing to tell people so send it in. Which I hope its not that.
Did you fix it and if yes how
Digital Version, have it sideways (if that matters), all my games, PS5 and PS4 games crash at start up except Assassin's Creed Black Flag which I could play for 20 minutes before it crashed. Media apps like Netflix and CZcams work fine.
It's a shame that I have a PS5 and all I can play right now is Netflix or Disney+. Hopefully, they will see videos like this and know how many people are going through this issue. So they can fix it.
It might be a hardware problem I had a PC that did this. Switched out the power supply to a stronger unit and it stopped. So might be the samething with ps5. Might need a better power unit to handle the high end hardware it uses.
Hopefully Sony gives us some answers soon. PS5 support line still says the engineers are working on a fix.
I have the Digital Version of the console and I've had zero issues.
You are very lucky. Hopefully it stays like that.
That's what happens when you rush to buy a console the moment when you can get your hands on one, the early adopters are just the testers.

I have this issue, buy only in Astro and only after the controller demo section.
Demon's Souls works correctly.
I played it six hours without any issue.
Disc version for me.
I also tried another games and no issue.
I don't think it is an hardware issue since Demon's Souls is a more demanding game for the hardware itself.
I tried to reset the console and I have also rebuilt the database without issue in this operation, but no luck either.

So far I had 2 crashes on Miles Morales. I had a soft crash to where I got the error and it booted me back to the dashboard and I had a hard crash to where the game completely locked up and my system started making this extremely loud buzzing noise. It was so loud that my room mate heard it on the other side of the house. I had to unplug the console and plug it back in and rebuild the database. I went back into the game and switched it over to performance mode and the game ran fine for about 2 hours. I shut the system down because I had things I needed to get done. Bro everyone’s PS5 is bricking and messing up. I’m going to stick with The XBOX Series X is seems to be a better engineered machine + Game Pass is 🔥🔥🔥
So far I see no issues with the Xbox Series X. But It's still something I would tell people to hold off for now. They don't really have a game that you must play now. Besides that, the machine is good.
My XSX is perfect and I was looking for a PS5 but I've given up indefinitely.
The XSX doesn't have the (2-3 games) that PS5 has, which is actually barely no game at all either..
But at least xbox has external storage, which PS5 doesn't support, has 200gb more storage.. true RDNA2.. quick resume.. loads games faster that the hyper fast PS5 ssd.. oh and GamePass!! and so on.
And it actually works easily, even with old controllers, and stays silent.
This last week kind of made me NOT want to buy a PS5 for like at least a year or two, if not more.. no kidding.
Sony keeps announcing everything that the PS5 won't support.. and now half of the consoles are defective out of the box?
I didn't think I'd say this, but I feel like besides the haptic feedback which won't be supported by many devs, PS5 is kinda painting itself as subpar compared to XSX

Hey I just got my PS5 disk version, and downloaded all the games I'm gonna play. But when I played Spider Man remastered for the second time in the day. As I was just gonna start the second main mission it crashed my whole system, (I'm playing on Performance+RT mode btw). I waited a couple minutes tried to turn it on it, didn't work, waited a couple more seconds and tried again it finally turned on. I don't remember what the error code was unfortunately. But do you think I should be worried that my console might be defective or do you think that this is a problem with the game? Cause I played Astros play room after my System crashed and Horizon Zero Dawn and everything seemed fine.
Did the game Freeze on you forcing you to turn it off?
@@Not2NerdyENT The game froze causing my system to shut down.
I have the disk version with the same problem and more. Worked fine for nearly two days. I’m playing demons souls, the game crashes and the console freezes. I shut the console off and now when I go to turn the console on, the start up to get to the profile sign in page keeps resetting and starting over. I get stuck in an endless loop of this until it finally decides to work. So the start up that is supposed to take a few seconds now takes 5-10 minutes. Now I get the same error message you got for every PS4 game and when I go to play a ps5 game it starts then it decides to crash and freezes the console before I even get to play. I have tried every single option in the safe mode and none of them fixed the problem.
This is not good. This is the worst case scenario that some people reported. Hopefully you didn't restore the OS in safe mode. Since you are taking so long to load, that may completely brick your console.
Hey all, I have some updates that might provide a temporary solution. I’ve tried most of the recommended steps with no success. However, I just got off the phone with support again, and their recommendations did temporarily fix the issue for the game I tested. Here’s what I did:
- Go to Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Performance Mode or Resolution Mode > set to performance mode. I tested this on Spider-Man, and the game is no longer crashing.
- One thing to note, is that I’ve been getting this weird visual glitch in Spider-Man and AC Valhalla. Basically, what I can only describe as a black cloud, fills the screen. It’s intermittent and usually goes away when I pause the game. The specialist had me do the following in the settings - go to Screen and Video > 4K Video Transfer Rate > Set to -1. This fixed the visual glitch.
Anyway, I’m re-installing Watch Dogs to see if the game works in Performance mode, and will update the thread accordingly. It looks like the issue could potentially be related to games that prioritize resolution/graphical settings. He said we could expect a patch soon, so fingers crossed that it’s not a hardware issue. Also, if somebody else can test this on a game other than Spider-Man, let me know if it works. I hope this helps
I can confirm that setting the game/app data to performance mode did not work for Watch Dogs, likely because it doesn’t have a resolution and performance mode. Like I mentioned above, it does work for Spider-Man MM.
VERY interesting. I have the error on all ps5 games, and the console was set to "Game Default" for graphics mode. I changed it to Performance mode and Spiderman Remastered now works, where before it would always freeze immediately at the title screen after the Insomniac logo. It did not change Legion for me either, still the same crash, as you said probably because there is no performance/graphics option. However, this did NOT fix Miles Morales for me; same crash. Only the remastered original plays. Also made no difference in Astro's Playroom. But that does give some hope it's more of a software issue and not a hardware one.
That is an interesting find. I will test this tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.
This fixed Miles Morales for me. Hopefully this is an indication that this is a software issue. At least I can enjoy playing my only PS5 game until they resolve this.
hmmm I wonder if the GPU is struggling with Ray Tracing. Although there have been reports of Demon's Souls suffering crashes as well so I highly doubt that is the case. I just hope this issue gets resolved soon because this definitely isn't a fluke with all of us having issues..
People are paying well over a grand on ebay for one of these right now, and I'm glad I decided to wait for a while before getting one. I've never purchased a launch console because of the very things being discussed here. I'll wait till the bugs are worked out then get one. In the meantime. I'll play my PS4 for a while.

Estimado el Error CE-108255-1 tiene solucion o esta dañada de fabrica?
I purchased 3 systems, (all w/ disc drive) 1 for me 2 for family members. I purchased and installed Spider Man, Spider Man: Miles Morales, Demons Souls, AC: Valhalla & Fallout 76. Before any of the games actually finished downloading I played Astrobot for a few hours. The first game to finish downloading was Miles Morales, so I played that for about 30 minutes, then the screen went green, my speakers made a buzzing noise then the entire system shut off. I turned the system on again, got the message that I didn’t properly turn the PS off and started to boot up Miles Morales again. I was able to play for a bit longer, in the meantime Valhalla finished downloading. Suddenly, green screen, buzzing, instant power off. I tried at least 4 times to start up the PS5 and at different stages of startup the same thing would happen Green-Buzz-Power. I thought maybe it’s the game I’m playing, nope. It did it with EVERY GAME. I started in safety mode, restored to factory default, still same issue. I opened one of my other PS5’s but this time I only installed demons souls, Valhalla, and Fallout 76. No issue at all. The common denominator that I seemed to have with everyone else is SpiderMan, so I avoided that. They were also saying the PS4 to PS5 data transfer could be the culprit, but I never did either of those. Just really bummed out. The defective one came from Walmart the other two from Target if that matters ( I don’t think it does). I really hope it’s a software issue, it would suck having to send it to Sony, there’s no telling when I’d get a replacement.
Yea its just really really random what games it does it for. I hope they can patch it soon.

This happened with Miles Morales for me it turned off my system and had to rebuild the database. After that I factory reset it and only had the game freeze once more after that. Now this same error code is starting to show on Demon souls so I have to send in the PS5 to Sony now for a replacement. Sad thing is they said it can take up to 3 weeks for me to get the new console.
They said you need to send the PS5 back?
Did they give you any indication on what’s causing the issue and why it was necessary to send it in? Also, when did you talk to them? I’ve talked to their support a few times now, and similar to what others said, they stated it was likely something that can be patched. It’s just frustrating how inconsistent their response has been.
@@drewptosh8461 I wish Sony told their support team what to say. Its not a good look when some tell you to send in the console, while others tell you to wait for a patch.
Hey just crossed his video and I have the same issue! So I’ve done some research On this because it’s been affecting me and it’s annoying. So I got this message while booting up Miles Morales, I had the same reaction as you. After countless amount of tries it still didn’t work. I looked around Twitter and saw many others with this issue so it kept looking. At that point in time I already had played Fifa21,NBA2k21, Spider-Man (2018), and Cold War and had no issues. It was really weird that this specific game was the only issue. I still play games today and have no issue other than spider man, I played fifa weekend league which consists around 30 games (15-20 minutes each) so so far no problems other than that. I also contacted PlayStation yesterday and today on this error and they had some things to say. First time I contacted them (over the phone) the guy was really nice and helpful so he got straight to it, he said “ we currently know no solution for this code but our team is working on it” he also than stated “ I’m confident this will be an easy patch that’ll come out soon”. Fast forward to today (chat support), he stated that they don’t know a solution again but this time he didn’t say anything regarding if it were an easy patch or the console itself.
Some people online have said that this is on specific accounts. One user on Reddit said that after switching accounts he was able to play the game without issues. And just as you mentioned many crash their whole console. Overall , it’s a very confusing situation and if Sony do need to recall all these PS5s it’ll be really bad for them as a lot of people have this problem , like a lot !
Also the phone call support worker told me to rebuild database and I had no issues! (Forgot to mention)
This is really confusing to be honest. So many different situations. Lol I didn't think that anything can be more chaotic than the PS5 pre-orders. but its 2020 so...haha.
In my country they bring a few number of Ps5 consoles at the shops for sale, I was from the firsts who took it, but unluckily I have the same problem, 5-6 times assasins creed Valhalla crashed on my Ps5 disk edition and show this error. Maybe is a software problem and not hardware. It is on guaranty but the problem is that there are no consoles at the shops. Hope it fixes soon.
How long do you think it will take for Sony to make any official comment about this?
Depends if its a software or hardware issue. If its Software they will announce that they are working on a fix and will release a patch. If its Hardware, lol we may not hear about it until after the European launch on the 19th. No way they will announce a recall before they get more purchases.
Have you tried reinstalling the entire system software via safe mode with a usb device ??
I have not. I saw some people who tried it. One person bricked their console, the other person said it didn't work.
I have done this, absolutely no change afterwards. Same crashes on all the same games.
I tried it twice, and it made no difference. Also did the update from internet option in safe mode, which found a new update file that does not get found trying to update from the regular menu. That update installed successfully but also made no difference, all games still crash.
@@souleater3227 Thats not cool.
I thought it was just mine doing this I got to play 10 min of 2k21 then boom error code
I’m in disbelief; nearly 4 years later and this is still happening.
I have the disc version of the PS5, and I got it in March or April of 2022. Unfortunately, I just experienced the infamous CE-108255-1 error code for the first time a week or two ago. It’s only gotten worse with time. It started with Spider-Man PS5 (the remastered version of the PS4 edition) crashing once every few hours or so, but in the last week it started happening with other games too. Now, I can’t play any PS5 game whether it be Astro’s Playroom, Spider-Man, or Fortnite for more than a minute without the my game freezing and giving me that lousy error code. Surprisingly, I’ve yet to experience this error code on a PS4 game, which I find very strange.
I’m devastated because my PS5 was a gift for graduating high school and, of course, this problem had to happen after my warranty ended and when I’m now a stereotypical broke college student.
I’ve done spent hours researching the issue, and it truly seems like my console is done for or “bricked”. I’ve tried what seems like everything except resetting my console in safe mode because I refuse to do that; I have too many saved files that I can’t stomach losing, especially if it won’t even fix the issue like I’ve heard from others.
Lastly, I must say it so nice to hear from someone who is ACTUALLY experiencing this error code. All the other CZcamsrs who are posting videos on “how to fix CE-108255-1” aren’t experiencing the issue themselves. They are simply just regurgitating what PlayStation said on their website, which isn’t helpful at all. So, I do really appreciate the videos you have made covering this issue.
Hopefully this situation will be resolved soon, but I’m rapidly losing faith. Feels like the PS5 equivalent to the Xbox 360’s notorious “red ring of death”.
Ya solucionaste?
@@user-cm2qf7kk9k Unfortunately, no. I’m going to get a new console because my warranty is over, nothing has worked, and I still can’t play PS5 games.
