Brazil commissions its first Scorpène type submarine: Riachuelo

- On Thursday September 1st, the first of the four Scorpène submarines of the ProSub program was commissioned by the Brazilian Navy. The Riachuelo has been built entirely in Brazil by Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN) thanks to a Transfer of Technology programme from Naval Group. The ceremony took place at the Itaguaí Naval base.

The Scorpène is a 2000-tons conventional submarine designed by Naval Group for all types of missions, such as anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, long-range strikes, special operations or intelligence gathering. Extremely stealthy and fast, it has a level of operating automation that allows a limited number of crew, which reduces its operating costs significantly. Its combat edge is highlighted by the fact that it has 6 weapon launching tubes, 18 weapons (torpedoes, missiles).
With 14 submarines sold worldwide, the Scorpène is a key reference of conventional attack submarines (SSK) for navies around the world. It can be easily adapted to specific requirements of customers and the continuous improvement of the Scorpene ensures the seamless integration of the latest technology onboard.

Congratulations to France as well. I remember reading about the time India did nuclear tests in 98 and entire world put multiple sanctions on us. France actually sent a congratulatory message and I could not supress a grin reading that. That was a very French thing to do. Ofcourse later France too 'had' to criticize us but that first reaction was an honest one.
Anyhow I digressed. Best of luck of Brazil and it's people.

Remembering that this is a different version of the Scorpene class. The Riachuelo-class submarine is larger than the French version, and is also more modern than the original.
There is no "French" version of the scorpene. France doesn't operate non-nuclear submarines, and they all have adaptations to customers' needs.

@@saml7610 with the Prosub program we'll have the means to build a nuclear submarine. It's a complex machine to build, we needed know-how from another country.
This submarine not is a Scórpene, but derived thiis class. A original Scórpene have 66 m of lenght, a S- BR have 72 m of lenght. The brazilian submarine class S- BR is more heavy. In surface have 2000 ton and submerse 2200 ton and more range . Both class can to a 350 m of deep, but the brazilian submarine in case of will be atacted, can go to until a almost 700 or 900 m of deep.
Slightly different iterations of a submarine class generally don't mean those iterations belong to a different, new class, especially not minor variations in length and tonnage. What does decide whether they're in the same or a different class are the subs capabilities, if those capabilities differ significantly from the original one then it will be seen as a new class of its own.
I'm very curious to know where you heard that they have a maximum safe diving depth of 700 or even 900 meters, double or even nearly triple their original safe diving depth? The stated depth of 350 meters is probably just the Scorpene's non-classified depth while in reality it can likely dive to 500 or 600 meters, something fairly normal for modern subs. However 900 meters is extreme, that's only 100 meters shy of the 1.000 meter record of the Mike-class, and those beasts were not only made out of titanium, but had a special thick, spherical compartment to withstand those enormous pressures.

It is not a scorpène type submarine, but a Riachuelo type developed in Brazil, they look almost the same but they are not at all. Riachuelo is bigger and has other equipment and engines etc .
