Welcome to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky. It is the worst one of all the series. Yes, I mean it. Clear Sky tries out a whole lot of new mechanics but it feels like they're just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. The result is an overly-scripted mess of a game that combines thew worst elements of a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game and a Call of Duty single player story.

I just want to clear up that Anomaly/LA autists are NOT representative of the rest of stalker fans. Anomaly players are a special branch of insufferable kids and many of them dont even have an interest in the actual base games, you'll hear bs repeated like "why play the games when Anomaly is the defiitive stalker experience" and so on. This is all ofc a trend as I remember the same hype surrounding the MISERY 2.1 mod for CoP back in 2012 and it phased out with time same.
About the security risks, there's alot of Stalker mods that arent clean, or have been under suspicion. Mainly stuff out of russia, Shoker, GUNSLINGER, russian story mods, etc. However most of western developed mods on Moddb are completely clean, my own theory is that your antivirus must have flagged the numerous graphical .dll files in Lost Alpha and Anomaly as these are standalone mods and use their own build of the x-ray engine, as such they include these system files same as the verified Steam builds of the 3 base games. If you dont feel comfortable downloading system files or anything your antivirus flags in general thats ofc your decision but I think you could still try maybe a separate hdd or partition to install games or non-sensitive data on, and this would prob better protect your system against threats in general.

This game kinda saved my life. When I was 15 I got very sick, like...lose 12 pounds in 3 days sick. Anyway, I spent an entire month playing this game as my dad installed it on his laptop for me to play since I could not get out of bed. I loved this game, I played it vanilla (as this came out when I was like.. 13?) and fell in love with everything. CS remains my favorite faction because of this, it also made the zone feel more like a world than the first game.. it may be my own perception. This will always be my favorite Stalker game; it will always be the most difficult to play as well!

I believe other soldiers can actually get to it and use it but the very first guy seems to work that way, he uses it with his mind

      1. I agree CW is a great teacher + describes the processes used really well.
      2. Can anyone start making things that push those cooking-story conventions towards the bold uncharted frontiers of "narrative cooking", bc I'm so utterly charmed by the phrase I'm sure there's some intrigue + magic just embedded in the term.

25:08 the underbarrel grenades are not "Rifle Launched Grenades". Obviously they're fired from the attachment on the rifle, but Rifle Grenades are their own thing. They came about during WWI I *think*(don't remember exactly) and they were grenades that require specific parts and rounds to fire them. I think all of them that I know except for one had you fit the grenade onto the end of the rifle, and the soldier with those grenades would use some sort of low powered cartridge in order to fire them. The French maintained use of these until the 2000s, on their FAMAS rifles, though I *think* they're phasing them out with their adoption of the HK M416. I'm assuming that there are still some in use because I think every army will use equipment that isn't inherently broken and still passable till the end of time. These underbarrel grenades are usually just referred to as grenades, though mostly by their diameter. In the US its usually referred to 40mm rounds. Russia has two systems for the AKs that are a 30mm and a 40mm for AF use.

    Good video but some nitpicks:
    - You do respond positively to the emissions. You no longer need to eat in Clear Sky. Scar just ... doesnt need to eat anymore. Its something.
    - Call of Pripyat reuses most of Clear Sky's gameplay loop and ballistics engine, just with tweaks. So Id say CoP is 70% Clear Sky gameplay.
    - The mounted machinegun is powerful but you can literally buy the CS-3 (CS-1 ingame due to poor translation for the EN version) armour with 30 bullet protection and pass through it.
    - Call of Pripyat DID NOT use any maps fro Clear Sky or SoC. That part is just 100% false. It reuses assets and PLANNED cut areas (the undeground areas mostly) but those were NEVER officially released in SOC or CS so the statement is true.
    - Bleeding can be stopped with some suit upgrades, artifacts, or the stat for stopping bleeding. Now, this is still a BAD mechanic 100% I agree but it isnt completely unavoidable.
    - The military use 5.45x39, not 5.56x39. Also - in non-SRP (Sky Reclamation Project fan patch) clear Sky, you can just farm the upgraded Vintorez from Forester by entering and leaving his dialogue constantly.
    - There are cool anomalies in Limansk - the teleportation spatial ones. But yes, they are underutilized.
    - Metro 2033 and Last Light are a LOT more like RTCW and Half Life than STALKER, so they are not good recomendations.
Overall good video and I agree Clear Sky is the most broken of the series. But I still like it more than Call of Pripyat.

You don't need an RPG to take care of the helicopter in the abandoned hospital, one of the monolith soldiers nearby drops a grenade launcher that you can use.
There is no need to do all that grind that you mentioned because checking the bodies of enemies in limansk reveals stashes that all contain a lot of ammo for a variety of weapons. The only thing you actually need to do in this game is upgrade your weapons because they otherwise can't hit the broadside of a barn.
I feel like a lot of the gripes you take with the game are invalid because from what I can tell, you are actively making the experience worse for yourself by doing unnecessary things you weren't intended to do.

The pixel perfect laser guided grenades were due to an incorrect config setting that gave enemies 100% accuracy on all throws.
And "bullet sponges" are common in the early game with bullets literally disappearing after reaching "max" range, instead of damage falloff. The early guns have like a 25m bullet range. Which was "fun". scopes add to the range, letting your bullets, you know, EXIST. So you can have a gunfight at last.
Both are fixed with patches and mods.

So, CS was my first stalker game.
I had no idea how durability worked.
I played the entire game with a 0 durability VSS and Makarov.
I had no idea how artifacts worked.
I did not use a single artifact all game.
I briefly read about difficulty, and believed the difficulty myth.
    I played it on Master.
Finally, I had no idea how the inventory worked. I have no idea how I missed this, but...
I played the entire game in a leather jacket, without repairs.
Sometimes I go back and play Clear Sky just like that just to relive the pain. It's simultaneously the best and worst stalker experience I've ever had.

    Biggest flaws:
-Endless bandit spawning if you wipe them out
-Insufficiently differentiated from other shooters. Didn't need Half Life 2: 2
-NPCs can see through vegetation but player can't
-Forgot the main mechanic of STALKER: The tension between curiosity and fear. Didn't replace this mechanic with anything else. So it's mild curiosity with 0 fear.

Clear Sky's gunplay system does feel rather off. I recall other reviews of this game stating that the weapons in Clear Sky all have inferior stats to those in Shadow of Chernobyl across the board to incentivize the player to purchase upgrades for their weapons.

    • @ChucksSEADnDEAD
      @ChucksSEADnDEAD Před 2 lety

Yes but you have to get used to 2000s gaming quirks. You essentially have to learn to play the game, I never managed a complete playthrough because I easily lost sense of direction and I did poorly in combat. One time I sat down and made an effort to do what the game was asking, and I breezed through the game. A rifle with a scope is very important for headshots.
Use multiple saves. I minimized savescumming but having multiple saves when getting to progress milestones is important because I had one game breaking bug - crash around 10 seconds after loading. I had to go back to an older save and lost around 30 min of progress. Never happened again.
Other than the quirks due to its age and development hell it's a very rewarding game.
