• Taliban Ambassador Praises China's Education System in Tibet. As the international community increases criticism of China’s assimilationist education in Tibet, Chinese authorities invited the Afghan Taliban ambassador and a group of diplomats from China-friendly countries to Lhasa to visit local schools. According to Chinese state TV, the Afghan ambassador said "I'm impressed by the systematic way the students are being educated here. It is the best thing I've seen, and it's promising for the country."
• Japan & Philippines sign landmark defense agreement on reciprocal troop visit. Japan and the Philippines signed a key defense pact Monday allowing the deployment of Japanese forces for joint military exercises, including live-fire drills, to the Philippines. 
• Russia hits children’s hospital in Ukraine’s capital during widespread deadly missile attack. A Russian missile struck a children’s hospital in Ukraine’s capital Monday, part of a barrage of aerial attacks on areas throughout the country that killed at least 20 people. 
• The global temperature in June set a record for the 13th consecutive month: Last month was the hottest June on record, the EU's climate change monitoring service said on Monday, continuing a streak of exceptional temperatures that some scientists said puts 2024 on track to be the world's hottest recorded year. 
• France faces uncertain future after left surges in legislative runoff: Talks to find a political way forward have started in France, following the stunning results of snap legislative elections Sunday that put the left, and not the far right, on top. The polls left the country with no clear political majority or path to forming a government, just three weeks before the Paris Olympics.
