This week the Dalai Lama underwent major surgery in the US bringing attention to some ancient Tibetan ritual practices that are observed when a loved one is under medical treatment. These practices include special meditations and the recitation of specific Buddhist scriptures. With China prohibiting Tibetans from participating in these traditions, fewer people understand their significance. Kunleng host Dorje Tseten invites Geshe Lobsang Dakpa, a Buddhist scholar from Namgyal Monastery, to discuss the origins and meanings of these ancient Tibetan traditions.
