No lie, the best part of this conversation were the silences. Like, dang, just take a moment to appreciate wisdom. Slower pace is good. uncomfortable, but powerful.
100% agree, both men seem so calm in each otherâs presence having a real conversation
Exactly, this is something I work on, attentive silence with another, just enjoying their presence fighting the urge to cover the silence with speech...delightful
I think some of the silence from Matt was actually something different. Like when Dr. Kreeft said that God prevented CS Lewis from becoming Catholic. I think Matt more just kept quiet there. I don't think Matt understands, agrees, or appreciates Dr. Kreeft's ecumenical disposition or centrist leanings and ability to see the good in liberals and the bad in conservatives.
@@taylorbarrett384 bro, what happened to your FB?
There were many silences. That might explain one.
Has to be a Millennial comment. đ
We are greatly indebted to this gentleman. Almost 45 years ago, Peter Kreeft came and gave a talk to 5 young adults forming a new catholic young adult group in Boston. We were totally embarrassed but he was totally gracious. The seed grew into 200 young adult members, led many to the religious life and we will never forget his contribution even after these many years.
Beautiful story! đ
I went to a seminar once where Dr. Kreeft spoke. I attended Mass with him. So wonderful. I asked him what was his favorite CS Lewis book and he said Till we have faces.
Yay
I can see how he would have been able to touch their lives!
Man, he's sharper at 84 than I am in my forties. And fascinating to listen to!
Dr Peter Kreeft would be a great guest to the Jordan Peterson podcast also, would love to see that conversation, especially since they donât know each other yet
Absolutely
I was thinking the same thing.
One step away with Bishop Barron
Peterson taught at Harvard for awhile, so they could have crossed paths in Boston academic circles..
But ya probably not
His last name means lobster in Dutch. Itâs a sign
Discovered Professor Kreeft the day after 911 scanning the radio dial, and the host was discussing âSocratic logicâ of all things. Read the book and that started the journey of saving my life. My only complaint is that he writes books faster than I could read them.
God bless you Dr. Kreeft.
Absolute machine, unstoppable
I love the pensive moments of silence, they are both smart enough to know that sometimes you must digest what has been discussed. It feels like a real conversation.
Yes. People who are comfortable with silence and content with simply company is great
Wonderful And Smart Insight. Matt does best when he decreases and letâs the interviewee fill in much of the intentional silent moments.
@@michaelphelan9441 Agreed! And he is so good at doing that, he's genuinely humble
Mr. Kreeft is the first person Iâve ever heard mention the tragedy of Peter Jacksonâs portrayal of Faramir. Faramir is one of the most interesting Men in The Lord of the Rings. That said, I love the Peter Jackson movies and Iâm very grateful for his work.
âCatholic doctrine and discipline may be walls; but they are the walls of a playground.â -G.K.Chesterton. I totally get that feel from watching this conversation.
Seeing Dr Peter Kreeft takes me back 20 years when I was dating my now husband. We use to go on long drives and listen to his talks in the car and talk about everything that came up. Good times đ
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
I've always hated parties ....so happy to have something in common with this brilliant man đ
My favourite living philosopher chatting with my favourite CZcamsr. Great conversation.

Did you accidentally âbutt typeâ a comment while your phone was in your pocket?
Speaking as a BC grad, I was an agnostic when I walked into Peter Kreeft's "Philosophy of CS Lewis" my sophomore year, and I left a Christian. Two years later I was received into the Church, largely because of his influence. He was so gracious to me - I hounded him during his office hours for two years, and he was always like what he's like here - thoughtful, engaging, patient. And he was like that to everyone.
Current student: I almost took that class this semester. Then just after add-drop I read his book on Tolkien and realized my mistake
I love how joyful Peter Kreeftâs face always is!
Hey Matt! My universityâs chaplain is Father Jonathan Duncan, the South Carolinian priest who gave you the King James Bible in the story around 3:00. Heâs glad to hear youâve enjoyed it!
We got to see him at a Franciscan conference on July 30 and 31. He is taking the month of August off of all social media. He mustâve pre-recorded all of these.
I can listen to Dr. Peter Kreeft all day long!
He makes everything so simple...either it's true...or it's not!
Thank you Matt for these excellent interviews...with excellent quest! đ
This is what a conversation should be and sadly doesnât (maybe almost ever) happen in society, friendships, family life, etc.
Thank you, Matt and Peter, for having this profound and organic conversation.
There are so many gems of wisdom in this, that I will probably go back and listen again. I may even start reading LOTR, you both sold it so well.
My introverted, melancholic, and philosophical soul has gained so much satisfaction and peace from this conversation.
Thank you.
This interview was one of the most fascinating I've ever seen. The man has such a remarkable brilliance, yet a tender humility. Often in the utterance a single word, he left a profound truth. God willing, I'm gonna read at least 10 books he recommends every Catholic read before death, and I'd like to read even one of his own. What a remarkable man and Catholic. I am a better person for having seen this interview.
As long as Professor Kreeft can, please continue to have him on your show!
Ask him what he thinks of Henry Potter? Next time
@@josefamaritza professor Kreeft in other podcasts says he has no quarrels with Potter but itâs not Lord Of The Rings
Dr. Kreeft is a treasure. I've always been intrigued by Tolkien's Tom Bombadil. He reminds me of G.K. Chesterton's description of God as having "the eternal appetite of infancy". Tom reminds me of a young child at play; unconcerned with the formalities & ambitions of the adult world. The ring means nothing to Tom because he has not "sinned and grown old" and although he is "eldest," he is still "younger than we". Great chat, thanks for sharing.
I always felt Tom was a sort of pre-lapsarian man. The Ring has no power over him (like sin has no power over Adam or Mary). He has dominion over all the animals. He is the eldest (first like Adam), etc.
I think the main reason I love this channel is that it has introduced me to such amazing people. I didn't know Trent Horn, Jason Evert, Fr Pine or Peter Kreeft. I caught myself smiling throughout the whole interview. Kreeft is a lovely man.
I loved this talk. I often get anxious when some speakers talk too fast. I cant keep with the train of thoughts. But hearing both of them talking so softly with pauses in between, made more impact on what they were saying and makes a more calm listening experience.
I agree....everything is so fast nowadays!
Thank you for speaking on ADHD and introversion. I am a similar type. Itâs always nice to meet wonderful people with similar struggles. Itâs feels a little less lonely in what feels like an extroverts world.
"The Holy Spirit knows what He's doing. He doesn't make mistakes."
Dr. Kreeft I love you, and those words are powerful in their Truth.
Great interview
I have a soft spot for Dr. Kreeft because he reminds me of my favorite philosophy and political science professors, neither of which I knew was Catholic until I saw them at Mass! They taught me how to identify and propose valid, sound arguments (as well as how to identify the not so valid or sound ones), and I'm forever grateful to them because they taught me how to question my Catholic faith (as well as other religions) in a way that led me to dive deeper into the truth, goodness, and beauty that God offers us through his one holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
Matt, thank you for inviting Dr. Kreeft back! May God bless you both and your families đ
Sounds like you had a really good education, cherish it :)
@@ABB14-11 Thank God I did đ
The literary work 'Lord of the Rings' is one of the works of greatest Catholic symbolism ever written. It is a work that shows all of Tolkien's genius, as well as the robust spiritual support on which he mounted this literary work. Tolkien follows the influence led by the great icon Saint John Henry Newman of the Roman Catholic Church who is reborn in the United Kingdom, and soon after GK Chesterton. Excellent interview. Brotha Matt Fradd tries to put subtitles in Portuguese and Spanish languages. Don't forget brother Matt about the Portuguese and Spanish subtitles, dude. Our Lady of Mount Carmel pray for us.
Thatâs it. Please, put the subtitles in Portuguese! đđ»
That was one of the most moving conversations I have ever heard. Thank you
Strong work, Matt. This was loads better than your first interview with Kreeft. I only wish you would have let him pontificate on his love for Michael OâBrien. I literally threw my hands in the air when he said OâBrien was the Catholic author heâs been reading recently. Iâd pay a lot of money to have a meal with Peter Kreeft & Michael OâBrien.
I've only just discovered Michael O'Brien and am so happy I did. What a wonderful writer!
Peter is such a great and nice person, filled with faith and Holy Spirit. This is how we all should be.
"There's a little good in the worst of us, and a little bad in the best of us." ...How true
Professor Kreeft is so full of wisdom, a wonderful author, and knows how to keep a happy life with his happy wife! đ
Peter Kreeft is awesome. At 18, before going into college I would listen so many of his lectures on CZcams because he speaks and explains the faith so beautifully with great understanding. Thank you for having him on Mr. Fradd.
I am the same introvert as Peter Kreeft. Lovely. God bless you both!
Iâm stuck at 84 years old!!!
This is another level of intellectual conversation.
Thanks
Favorite LOTR quote "I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I." said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
I agree with you đŻ!
What a quote!
The best conversation ever! I agree with others. The silent moments were wonderful...unhurried and thoughtful. More please!!
As a person who lives in West Virginia i say thank you sir lol not wrong either, big reason I love it here lol
One of the best interview / chats I've heard. Truly wonderful.
While at college, I loved watching Kreeft lectures and debates on the ISI website/library, esp during lunch between classes.
The fact that he stops and smiles after saying something unsatisfying is so telling. He's literally found the answers to his questions. The Answer. I'm not saying it translates. But when he drops one of his bombs on you that you need to have been listening for the past 20 years to understand, he just sits there and smile. Completely satisfied. He knows. Beyond the shadow of a doubt. It radiates out of him. It doesn't satisfy me because I won't be satisfied. Not yet. But prayer is powerful.
Iâm going to re-watch this and take notes. Really love Peter Kreeft, great conversation and great job Matt.
I love that man. Iâve been reading his books since I was a teenager and they have changed my life.
Yep introvert! Love small personal conversations. Tend to clam up in big groups. Love your show
Peter Kreeft is an absolute treasure to the church.
Could you just interview him every 6 months or so? We could all use that
"The Passion of the Christ" is great.
Truly delightful conversation.
I love this man. I need everything he's ever produced on a hard drive for my children.
for those who love to listen to this man - go and get his lectures published for The Modern Scholar series, they are wonderful
One huge influence on Tolkien--particularly LOTR--that I rarely, if ever, see is Dante. It starts in the first chapter and continues through the book.
Interesting...
Do you know Charles Williams?
Silence is golden. Let words sink into the brain for real impact.
Kreeft hit the nail on the head with introverts. Great show.
I continued what my mother did. She read LOTR the first year it was published in the USA. Now sheâs gone. I had read it every year since I was in college.
Going to Adoration and Augustine's Confessions helped bring me back home to the Church.
Peter Kreeft is such a wise soul and a blessing.
Dr. Kreeft is 84 years old and so full of life. Amazing man.
Felt like a conversation between Gandalf and Frodo.
I am enthused to read the LOTR listening to this. Nice program!
I love your style, Matt. You're very thoughtful. You're obviously well read. You're a great listener. And, your patience is a gift, even to viewers. In this conversation, you provide comfortable, respectful space for Dr. Kreeft's thoughts. It's beautiful. You're our saving grace from the debauched world of Howard Stern. We needed decades to recover from his toxicity. Thank you for not abusing us with advertising. This is part of why I've subscribed. Genuine goodness deserves support.
I could easily listen to Peter Kreeft for 2 more hours.
I will need to listen to this again and again. So much to capture.
My two favorite people together!!!! AMAZING!!!! I learned a lot! once again, Thank you for such a wonderful talk!
So interesting to hear Mr Kreeft comments on there still being regular normal people in USA, and that the social media creates huge storms....just had a conversation today here in South Africa, about people wanting to emigrate from the corruption here in SA, to USA, and people ask if they aren't afraid of the craziness in the USA, and the reply was that this "craziness" is revved up by social media and that the USA is FULL of sensible people.....I watch News on the usa everyday and I'd swear it was completely falling apart. Sounds though, that it's not sure and there's hope.....not that hopeful for SA though đ
the US is on its way to becoming SA.
Thank you for having Dr. Peter Kreeft back! đ
This was the most amazing interview! I will listen to it again and again, not only for the absolute wisdom, but also for all the book references! Thank you both!
Most enjoyable! A true gentleman! He taught Dr Gregory Bottaro, now Catholic psychologist and author of the Mindful Catholic. He would also be great to interview on your show!
It's 2 hours out of my life, but such well spent time. I never tire of learning about Tolkien and Lewis. I never get tired of the breadcrumbs they left behind to keep searching and keep learning. They motivate me to follow the mystery, dig deeper. Thanks for the nudge to dig , gentlemen.
And the last five minutes, Iâm in tears. I needed to hear that line from Gandalf/kreeft again. Iâm reading lotr for the third time. But that last part really helped me stay convicted in my faith.
I hope to be as sharp minded as Kreeft when I reach his age!
Half way through and wow this is my favorite conversation. Great great great
When I read a good book I find myself, savoring the last chapters, making it last.... this show was like that. I kept pausing and saving for later. Savoring..... I loved the pauses as well, slow moving, thoughtful . It is my first time hearing Dr Kreeft. One of Mattâs best shows!
I just bought the new book Wisdom and Wonder, edited by Brandon Vogt. How Peter Kreeft Shaped the Next Generation of Catholics. Canât wait to read it.
Love the pauses. Itâs like a temporary brain rewiring that results in the conveyance of meaning.
I heard one suggestion from Gregory Pine that Bombadil is the antithesis of Sauron In that he has no desire to dominate others, and thus the ring has no effect on him
49:19 When two melancholic people stumble upon a profound idea together.
38:45 is so well put†Kreeft is a treasure!
Itâs amazing to me how much Pints With Aquinas has changed and grown in the past 3.5 years Ive been listening. Admittedly I miss Emmaâs old intro song, but now it sorta acts as a nostalgia trigger to take me back to when I first discovered Catholicism!
This was such a joy to listen to. Dr. Kreeft is a treasure!
My favorite episode. Dr. Peter Kreeft is such an amazing man. I hope he lives to 100! God Bless!
Great interview with Dr. Kreeft. I loved the silence between topics.
This is an amazing conversation! Thank you! Matt, watching your old interviews and this show how much you have grown as an interviewer. Keep up the great work!
I appreciate that!
â@@PintsWithAquinas the silence between comments is golden! Thank you, again!
what a kind soul he is and so full of wisdom and pure joy within! thank you both for this interview!
Prof. Kreeft is sooo right about animals and heaven, I think. Yaaaay! I really needed this! :)
Yet one should distinguish heaven and the new earth...
1:18:13 i said that to the lady at the catholic bookstore and she gave the same answer. âYou are fooling yourself by wondering if you pray correctly, it does the same objectively.
So simple
Man, what an interview. Thank you so much Matt. Such a wisdom from both of you. The jokes and the silences were special.
Matt, youâve really been producing some awesome content for us lately. Top notch discussions that have really facilitated growth in me at least. Thank you for doing this kind of stuff. It really helps me because I tend to learn and consume A LOT of my information through CZcams (for better or for worse lol).
Matt, you guys absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one!! In a word, THANKS!
Finally completed this marathon, and it is all worth the listening grind! :)
As turns out (as shown by CZcams's algorithm), this is the second guesting of one Dr. Peter Kreeft, telling me there's another to grind with.
Hopefully in slowly but surely fashion, I am able to deal with any of the channel's conversations' length by not getting overwhelmed and have foolish impression it is long and thus boring. It does not, moreso the contents are intellectually stimulating and no-nonsense which sadly the world is drifting away, citing social media as one if not the biggest culprit.
Thanks again and into the next grind.
One of your best long form discussions
Such a wonderful story teller.
This is the best interview on this channel.
I actually love the pauses in this conversation...it helped me digest what had been said--it is an excellent example of a non-hurried encounter and communio with another. Thank you for giving us a window into this conversation.
Watching this for the first time. So so good. So much wisdom. What a great interview
What a great conversation. Thanks for posting.
This is one of the best conversations I have ever listened to.
This was such an enjoyable conversation to listen to. It reminded me of when I was 10 and I used to play chess with this 80 year old chap.
Beautiful conversation. I love the thoughtful, insightful questions, and the respectful pondering - not rushing to fill space. Such a rare quality in interviews.
Thank you, Matt! Great interview! Dr. Kreeft is amazing.
Thank you Matt and Professor Kreeft. God blessed your lifes.
Cool talk, would love to see you guys do this again
Matt is a very good interviewer. You feel you are there near him.its very personal rather than interviewers who are objective and aloof.hope he deals with more topics about the difficult of being christian in a world where christians are being persecuted, misunderstood.and villified
i hope you know how gifted you are as a host đ!

This was the most beautifully spent 2 hours. We are so blessed to have the teachings, humor, and wisdom of Peter Kreeft. Thank you for this!
