  • If you’re looking for a wallet to make for the first time, this is a great place to start! Diane from Spencer Ogg was so kind to gift me this Worsley Wallet sewing pattern, and I cannot say enough good things! It comes together easily, the seams are thin, the instructions are clear and precise (while also being incredibly entertaining). Diane totally has the beginner in mind here and holds your hand throughout the entire process. This is a wallet I have already made 3 of, and I see myself making many more. It’s a one day start-to-finish-make that ends up looking SO professional.

    You can steam press vinyl, use low heat and steam. It makes it pliable and easier work with. The fold will hold and it does nothing to the vinyl. I use to do this all the time when I did re-upholstery on car and truck seats.

    Hi Jess! Thank you soooooo much for doing this pattern. I'm a visual learner!!!! I do have a question... On 2 sections in the video you mention folding the edges up of the fabric by three quarters of an inch. But tbe pattern said 3/8". I forgot where the first one was but the second was around minute 46:34. I just wanted to double check bc it does look like you're folding up 3/4" of an inch. I suck at wallets so I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right...

    Hi Jess, just wanted to ask why Decovil heavy is used instead of the Decovil Light in this wallet? I've never used the Heavy, and I am waiting on an order of the Light. Would one layer of the light work with this wallet? I just love all of your videos. You explain every detail, and I love that you show the stitch length, and what size seam allowance you use with each step...That is very helpful.

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  Před 4 lety +1

      Great question! The heavy just keeps the wallet very firm and flat. Light would allow the wallet to fold on itself. You could use two layers of the light and have the same results as one layer of heavy.

    Hi Jess from Adelaide, South Australia. The very top card slot pocket ( the one that had to be sew 2 inches from the top so it isn't so deep) it looks like it is not going to be lined when finished, the interfacing will be seen if you poke your nose into it, is that correct.

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Bev! Yes, that is correct. The way it is currently, you can see the interfacing on the interior of that pocket.

    I am working on my worsley wallet now!! It is coming along nicely. I am reading the pattern, then watching your video bit-by-bit as I go along!!! So helpful!!! Thank you. Just wondering, what lotion do you use on your hands??? Your hands look so soft!!! LOL!!! I know its not the point of the video... but, I have been watching your working hands for a couple hours now, and could not help but notice!!!

      I'm so happy to hear you're making the wallet! I use the lotion from Zeep, but I also put highlighter (makeup) on my hands so they don't look so dry.

    I enjoy your videos. Your enthusiasm is contagious. I have one small negative comment. You have DST as part of the supplies. You used 1 1/2" piece only. Because you never sew through the DST, would it not have been a good idea to show using it down the middle of the vinyl strap, not only as an easy way to keep the edges together, but it adds some stabilizer to sometimes stretchy vinyl. Just a thought, especially for new sewers who don't understand the use of DSt. this alone makes the job go from homemade to handmade. Just an idea. Keep up the great work.

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  Před 4 lety +1

      That's a great point Elona! I try to show everything I'll be using, even if it's a very small amount of it, because I know I'll get asked about it in the comments. But yes, double sided tape can be used in many steps of this project, and it's such a time saver! Thank you so much for the comment!

      @@OklaRoots I seldom say negatives and I hate to. You appeared to be struggling a bit with keeping edges together and usually you are right on with all the little steps. It just looked a bit awkward.

    Jess - Thank you for this wallet tutorial! My only hesitation is this: You gave a link to Diane's Facebook group for alternate wallet closures. I am not on Facebook - don't care to be a part of it - and.... Diane isn't sharing any information unless you JOIN her group. What a pity. Guess I'm going to live without Diane's suggestions, and the real kicker is, I purchased this wallet pattern. Why wouldn't alternative closures be included? ( OK - cleansing breath - sheltering in place and no relief in sight for NJ is making me crazy!) I'm hoping that you share some alternate ideas! Back to watching your video - I love your attitude! You talk to us like we are right there with you! Never preachy, always encouraging! You inspired me to straighten up my sewing room, dust off my sewing machines and make a gazillion purses, bags, wristlets, etc. Thank you! (LaFifer)
