I always said that the first thing I would do when buying a new car is to go out and just key it...just get it over with and have no "first time" anxiety. But I never had a new car till now when I have a Tesla Mod Y on order. Being somewhat older and knowing that this will be my very last car I will not do that but will keep it as pristine as possible and well maintained . I mean who wants to still be buying cars into their 80's?

No PPF on our 22 model 3, blue. Did ceramic coating. Used Tesla touch up paint on one large chip, worked 8 out of 10. Pretty good. Ultimately, it's a car that you use. Take care of it but don't worry about the little stuff.

Are you planning on using the touch up kit on the larger chips? It would be nice to see a follow up video if you did. Thanks for all the great videos!

Thanks for the idea, I already have the paint, now I have to build up the courage. Typically, for me, touch up looks worse than the chip. ;) Thanks for watching!

Agree. Never put PPF on my 2018 MS. Traded it in for an MX two weeks ago, no PPF. It's a car and will be driven. It's not a show car. The car will depreciate like all others.

Thanks for your video on no PPF used on the Tesla. i guess it is what roads and vehicles we pass by or follow. Now you are in California. I live in a winter state, Illinois, so will the snow, ice, and salt cause may more problems and Dings on a car, I don't know. You do allot of Freeway driving, so I know that the car will face some flying projectiles over time.
Note, I just purchased a 2023 Model Y long range yesterday, should be getting it in a few weeks. Also did a test drive in a Model Y.
Will I do PPF right away, not sure. So that is why I am watching videos like yours.
No matter if you have PPF or not, the vehicle over time will get some Dings from flying objects. I guess just don't follow allot of large gravel semi trucks or do off road driving. For me don't pass by fast moving salt trucks in the winter.
    Thanks again and take care.

I never PPF on all the new cars I brought last 25 years (around 8 cars ), none of the bumpers & hoods of these cars looked bad after 5 years. I usually DIY wax / ceramic coat the whole car ( put two coats at the front/hood and side mirrors 2-3 times a year). Easy to clean on bugs, dirt and just touch up paints on larger rock chips. I live in San Francisco Bay Area in which the freeways condition are as bad as the Southern CA 405

I had my Mode 3 for 7 days before I could get it into the shop for a full clear bra and it already had about 8 decent sized chips in the bumper. I live in Phoenix and we have have a ton of rocks on all the roads because of the desert landscaping.
A day after I got the clear bra installed I had a chunk of concrete smack the bumper about 2 inches below the hood line, dead center. It lines up perfectly with the Tesla emblem. Surprisingly it didn’t cut through the clear bra film, but rather the film stretched with it and it left an indentation in the bumper.
I also had another chunk of concrete about the size of a softball come bouncing at my car while driving 75mph on freeway. It smacked the left fender next to the headlight, cutting through the PPF and leaving a chip, bounced onto the hood, ripping a small hole into the PPF but no paint damage, and then bouncing off my windshield and then onto the top glass, leaving large cracks requiring them glad to be replaced

Ppf protects at a certain point. Honestly if bugs get on you can’t take them off. The stain stays . You can’t buff it out. At least you can buff them out on clear coat and then fill the rock chips .

I don’t put PPF since my 2nd car, since the PPF actually damaged my paint on my 1st new car after taking it off 2 years later. 😅
As you said, we can repaint or replace the bumper if there is too much damage.

My black 2019 M3 has some minor scratches on side door panels, trunk area (from kids sports gear) and was delivered with some swirl marks. No major issues on bumper but that was replaced in 2021 after accident. Just spent 3 hrs prepping and applying PPF to bumper, rocker panels and bumper for 2023 white MY we just got. It was probably about 450$ for materials and is doable for a novice but definitely an exercise in patience! We’ll see how it holds up. I can see why people spend big $$ to have someone else do it but we couldn’t justify the cost and in the end, it’s just a car.

It’s very easy to do the tesla touch up paint when you get the hang of it.
    Don’t follow their instructions.
At this point I can usually do it without even taping it off.
Also in regards to PPF and Ceramic Coat it’s a terrible investment, nobody is going to pay more for the car cause someone does those things.
Also I’ve found PPF absorbs bug bug guts since it’s highly porous which makes it near impossible to clean perfectly if you’re not cleaning the front end off at least once weekly.
PPF does work against big rocks though for sure. You might get a dent but you won’t lose any paint.

I have graphene paint protection and i am annoyed i have 2 small rock chips on my 2 month old 2023 model 3, i am looking and getting the small chips repaired at the body shop and ppf applied to the front. Tesla cars have very bad paint easy to damage

  • @Duramaxcho
    @Duramaxcho Před rokem

Depends where you live ultimately. If you live in the PNW like I do, PPF is a must. After about 3-4 years, your front end will look worn down

    • @TeslaTipsTrips

Your luck may vary for sure. This one takes a beating on Los Angeles freeways. At the end of the day, repainting the bumper, professional touch up, or just full on replacing it is cheaper through. PPF is crazy expensive here. That's why there are options. Thanks for watching.

    • @jamjamjam41689

AT THE END OIF THE DAY, IT'S A CAR. I love your comment. I was freaking out before I took delivery of my 2022 MYP. The debate was should I get PPF? Then I thought, why am I freaking out about this when it was never a concern with any of the other new vehicles I've purchased which were similar in price. Now I see a lot of people who paid good money for PPF on their Tesla, peeling it off. Bad application? I don't know. But I don't regret going without it. Same goes for "Ceramic" coatings. It's like the vendors know we Gringos love to glom on to trendy sh!t and know they are going to make a ton of money at least until the next trend comes along. You know you have settled in with your car when you go a couple weeks without a carwash.
