Lots of you requested a video featuring make-up tips for covering Rosacea and facial redness. I can’t guarantee that all of the make-up and skincare products I recommend will suit you. I only use products I personally think are good having tried them on myself and my clients but everyone's skin is different and it's possible to be allergic to anything. Wherever possible, test products out on yourself before purchasing.
I only feature products I like, or want to try. The products I use in these videos are either purchased by me or sent to me by make-up companies to use in my professional capacity as a make-up artist for fashion and celebrity photo shoots, red carpet etc. I am also sent products by many of the top magazines to judge for awards.
I do not accept payment and am not sponsored to make any of the films on this channel. Some of the links under the videos and blog posts on my site are affiliated however and as stated before, I only feature products I like, or want to try.
No-one can parallel Lisa's talent and class. The passion and creativity she has truly shows in her work. I admire her as a make-up artist but foremost as a woman. I have heard people say that women hide behind their make-up but Lisa genuinely uses her abilities to empower women to use make-up to enhance what they already have. I am always flawed by how amazing she makes every model look and by her unique ability to use minimal products to make a woman look like the best version herself by enhancing her existing natural beauty. I feel beautiful watching her videos and have since learnt to look at what I have rather than what I dont.
Yasmin M thank you for your wonderful comment Yasmin X
Lisa Eldridge I agree. With all due respect, I'd like to ask: why go so dark with the brows though? Isn't it a bit of a stark contrast?
Thank you for all your tips. i have angry red face, and I feel like everyone rolls their eyes at people like us who use products like double wear "because it's a mask", and you see people on YT with perfect skin or who use models with perfect skin saying it's all about concealer.. I mean, it really is not if I need it in large areas of my face! -.-'
ETA: It was really nice of you to give your model a Chanel lipstick =)
Vanessa Marcos she did say at the beginning that she wanted to do a really bold, statement look, hence the dark brows :)
Fair enough
Totally agree with everything you said!! ❤️❤️❤️
when i watch these videos i think "mother" in the sincerest and nicest way possible. the patience, the care, the compassion, the skill, the knowledge and way to impart said knowledge, and the way she delivers her words. striving to genuinely help and bring about people's confidence. her tone is so calm and therapeutic.
That lipcolour is so perfect on her! And her reaction at the end was really lovely.
Danni told me she's been wearing it ever since : ) X
"It is not about the brand, it is more about the technique". A very true and relieving statement for us who can't afford high end make up. I am poor so any occasions that really need make up I can only play with cheap drug store products, so Lisa's videos that emphasize about technique over products is really, truly life saving.
Love that you showed people with rosacea how to wear the colors they're always told to avoid!! Beautiful!
oh my god this woman is gorgeous, and your makeup really did justice to her natural beauty
Love how you make people look better and not transformed.
I am never complaining about my skin ever again. I have it so easy and yet, I always get almost depressed about tiny ridiculous things only I can see. Danni you are gorgeous and Lisa, what you are doing may not cure cancer, but it certainly cures the soul.
What is truly stunning and remarkable of your work is that's both artistic when it comes to shootings, simple but glamorous on celebrities, effortless and down to earth when you explain to us ordinary women how to achieve a beautiful look that also takes care of our most common problems and skin issues. You're professional and kind no matter who you are talking to and I can totally tell from your videos that these looks are really well thought to be useful and easy to recreate. You leave me speachless every single time. I'll run out of compliments someday ;)
Thanks for such a lovely comment X
♡
Lisa Eldridge
Miss Eldridge, may I ask, do you do male model makeup? Bronzed and contoured and chiseled male models we see on D n G and Abercrombie? Would love to see one tutorial video one day, thanks! xxx
Clemwell Milan So would I. My fiance is very selfconscious about his under eye circles. I'd love to see a male makeup done properly. Lisa? Any chance?
Totally agree!
The after photo in the before/after shot is a testament to your artistry Lisa. You gave Danni a brand new look, and boosted her confidence to play with different looks and not obsess on how to 'distract' from her rosacea, but rather to use the right products and techniques to make it practically disappear altogether! Lovely! I hope she did well in her audition! :)
Danni is such a lovely model, I'd love to see her again!
Lisa, could you do a tutorial for mature women with rosacea? I'm having a very difficult time finding the right foundation because anything has enough coverage for my redness also settles into my wrinkles and lines, accentuating them. It's terribly frustrating. I wish someone would make a line of foundations designed especially for women with rosacea!
Hi Lisa i'm a big fan of your work and i love your vídeos, I was wondering of you could do a natural male make up tutorial, us boys should benefit from make up too! All my love and respect from spain
Please do! That would be so interesting!
I was planning on making one but I hate seeing myself on camera haha
I post men's makeup tutorials all the time! At least one or two a month! Although I would LOVE to see Lisa's work on a male model, I'm not NEARLY as talented as she is.
LOL I'm not even a guy but I'd love to see that!
yes, lisa! this is a fantastic idea. i hope you decide to do this.
I love how Lisa doesn't just do make up tutorials for the sake of it. She does it to empower each and every woman no matter what their insecurities are. Thank you Lisa!
Hi there Lisa,
My daughter sent me this link; recently diagnosed with rosacea and had a bit of a make over at the Estee Lauder counter. I confirm you are right that double wear is the best choice for my rosacea.
I was so upset about my skin suddenly breaking out at my age (58) and watching your video has helped no end. I have to admit to being a fan of red lipsticks.
Your model looks absolutely amazing! Thank you to both of you. I think there have been times recently when I have used to much foundation and building it up is the way for me to go, as it is mainly on my cheek and around my nose area.
Thank you for showing that we can regain our confidence, after getting this diagnosis.
Oh my, Danni is probably one of my favourite models featured on your channels! She's absolutely gorgeous and so relatable. I felt like she brought up her own issues with makeup that many people would have as well. Love her reaction when she saw herself with the finished lip! Wonderful tutorial as usual x
I love love love your chanel Lisa. Most "makeup artists" here on CZcams are so heavy handed and put so much makeup on the face, they hide the beauty behinde masks. Instead you emphasize the beauty. You put a little but the impact is big. You will always be my inspiration. And your models are so beautiful. (well, in my opinion everyone is beautiful because everyone sees beauty in different person and forms.)
So glad you warned about the ashy look of some green based rosacea products, I've fallen into that trap so many times! Great video.
Wow, she's gorgeous! And so sweet, I really enjoyed the conversation between the two. This girl is great!
She is beautiful with and without makeup. She has the perfect face shape, hair cut and gorgeous eyes! Thank you for being a model. Lisa, I wish i could study under you. I love all of your videos. One problem I can't seemed to overcome is a winged eyeliner on mature or naturally creased eyes. I feel if I lift the eye to apply the liner and then release it does not look right. So then I try to apply it without lifting and it looks ridged and not sharp. Please help!
Dont lift you eyelid .. just look straight ahead in to a mirror and lift your eyebrows a tiny bit to apply and then relax to blend and finish , should work a treat. Let me know x
I have never seen foundation applied as flawlessly as Lisa does it. Just so beautiful.
Stunning! I love when you tackle the obstacles off different skin types and how to make anyone and everyone feel beautiful! You're just the best Lisa!
That model is so freakin pretty
it's always so nice to see other people with rosacea in makeup videos because it makes me feel more "normal" and like there IS hope.
I was diagnosed with Rosacea three years ago...about 8 months after having my first daughter. Unfortunately I have not found anything that has controlled the redness and papule/pimples. It started on the cheeks and over the 3 years, has now taken over nearly every square inch of my face. I go back to the dermatologist at the end of the month for oral antibiotics...my last resort.
You did a lovely job, as always, Lisa. Thank you for dedicating this tutorial to Rosacea sufferers ❤️
I've had it for about 3 years now too, totally fed up with it, and nothing seems to work! Unfortunately I have dry skin with it so the video didn't help as much as it was more about oily skin. Good luck, and I'm thinking of going back to the docs! X
Emma Roberts Sorry that you are struggling to control it as well. It is a terrible skin issue! Over the past few months, my skin has become very dry. I have always had oily/acne prone skin but I guess some of the products I was trying out, dried my cheeks & chin out terribly. I am constantly flaky and makeup makes it look worse, yet I'm not confident enough to go in public bare skin:(. Have you found any lotions or creams that have helped with your dryness?
I hope we get it under control! xo
sarahmichelle Have you tried going dairy free? I have found that it really helped calm down my acne and rosacea :)
Hi Sarah, I have had the same experience as you! It was red, bumpy, and flaky for years. Here is what finally helped for me:
1. Getting off gluten
2. Taking a good probiotic (I use Dr. Mercola)
3. Paula's Choice skin care products
My skin is now smooth and the redness is almost completely gone - I think I have some natural redness in my complexion. I hope this helps you :-)
Keep in mind that your skin is an elimination organ for your body, and the "sister" organ to the liver. It's ultimately a blood/liver issue if it's showing up on your skin. I have seen many who suffer with this cured of it after eliminating things from their diet that they were intolerant to or allergic to and didn't know, of course the main culprits were dairy, gluten, and cooked oils. If all else fails, try to alter your diet, you might be amazed! ❤️
I do not suffer from rosacea but I do have severe eczema. I absolute love and appreciate that you have used a woman with a very common yet not well known skin condition. Her skin looks so healthy and luminous after all your tips and tricks. I am so happy that she was brave enough to go on camera for the world to see her completely bare. Thank you very much. This is hands down one of the best videos I've see on youtube.
She’s gorgeous and this makeup is all kinds of stunning. I think Lisa picked every aspect perfectly from style to colour to finish to application. Honestly a *real* makeup artist.
Bravo! ♡
Great tips, beautiful model and gorgeous look as always Lisa. ♥ Elle
Dani is a beautiful woman. Lisa did a beautiful application on her as only Lisa can do! I have very pink cheeks because I am Irish and I think this tutorial make help greatly. I also love the lip color. Thank you again, Lisa for your wonderful experience.
Amazing work of a true artist without all that stupid meaningless highlight and countouring
Gorgeous woman. What a difference it makes to even out the redness. I have the same issue.
For anyone who thinks make up is easy or frivolous, they should watch what you do. You have the ability to completely transform someone and to make them feel good about themselves. Everyone that you touch ends up looking like a goddess. You are so talented. I get really fed up with make up vids on CZcams done by people who do not have an ounce of the know how and innate talent that you have. You are flipping brilliant. xxx
My God, she's beautiful...as is this makeup. And I'm envious of her perfect platinum hair [*pouts*].
🙌 shout out to my dry skin ladies in world 🙌 May your moisturizer replenishing and your foundation never be drying. ❤️
Lisa, could you do a video on foundation with brown/darker acne scars? Because I am Black-asian I have "fairer" skin which means whenever I get a spot it leaves a brown Mark. I find it hard to leave the house without layers of foundation to mask my skin as about 3/4 of my face is covered with these marks and I would love to know how I can cover the marks without piling on makeup. Thanks X
+WRECK ALIENS try IPL Photofacial for the brown spots and scars
HOLY CRAP, she looks amazing!
Danni is gorgeous and I love how Lisa always sends her models home with products :D
I love Danni's reaction to the makeup look. Makeup is silly and funny and slightly superficial, but it can be so powerful and give people a nice confidence boost. Love it!
I am going to watch this video over and over until I have perfected this art of covering redness without looking cakey or ashy. Thank you Lisa!!
I feel as if this video had been made for me. Of course it's not, but yeah, super sensitive, slightly oily, redness, bumps, that's me. Tube mascara is my choice of mascara too!! I currently use the L'Oreal beauty tubes, but lots of brands make them, Clinique and Estee Lauder for example. I also loved the reaction of the model at the end!
My biggest question is actually, how do you take all that face make up OFF at the end of the day WITHOUT inflaming the skin? I always look like I'm on fire after trying to take makeup off. I currently use an oil.
Try the Clinique Take the Day Off makeup remover. It's the only one that does a thorough job and won't inflame my skin further.
I have rosacea and use Paulas Choice skin recovery softening cream cleanser (what a name!). It is sooooo gentle, nothing irritaing at all in it and it melts my makeup right off. I have never used a cleanser that is as gentle and thourogh as this one. I like to wet my face and gently massage the cleanser on, take a swisspers cleansing pad (cotton) and wipe off my makeup. Then I rinse my skin (use lukewarm water, never hot or cold) and if I am wearing alot of makeup I apply another small amount of the cleanser and rinse again. It is so gentle to take my makeup off this way, no rubbing, scrubbing and it all comes off but my skin is left soft AND calm!
I use micellar water by Bioderma, its very gentle
I use Emma Hardie moringa cleansing balm and a flannel. I make sure not to rub to harshly. I also use separate eye makeup remover if I've worn waterproof makeup. I then use a toner, serum and moisturiser and my face is normally a little red (as it normally is!) but when I used to use make up wipes my face was on fire. Try to avoid things with high alcohol content like wipes because they will dry out and irritate.
Bioderma, eau miscellaire (the red one, for sensitive skin) will remove your make-up perfectly and without giving you any redness. It also works for your eyes and lips... I've been using it for quite a few months now and I really can see the difference on my skin.
I have rosacea around my nose and cheeks, but unfortunately I have extra dry, dehydrated skin. I can't wear the full coverage foundations because the are far too dry on my skin, and the lighter coverage, dewy foundations don't cover the rosacea and appear to just sit on the surface. I also can't find a concealer that covers and doesn't create dry flakiness on the rosacea bumps. In the winter it's almost impossible to feel good about my skin.
This is the most informative video on rosacea I have seen! I love it. What really stood out to me though was the combination of a professional/ technical presentation with a natural conversational tone. I loved hearing from Danni and the responses from Lisa. I relate so much to Danni's experiences. Thank you!
That lipstick does look really pretty on her.
So is so beautiful - even bare faced! Thanks for sharing - I deal with redness as well!
Would love to see one for Rosacea suffers with dry skin!
She is GORGEOUS (with and without makeup)! Amazing job Lisa.
I have rosacea but I'm not oily at all I'm really dry
Check out lisa's video on beauty emergencies, it's about the prep on her kit, if I'm not mistaken it covers dry skin and rosacea as well as both together
dani's voice is so niceeee
As a rosacea sufferer, I was so glad to see this tutorial. Thank you Lisa!
I finally figured out who this model looks like: Kim Novak in Vertigo. Absolutely stunning!!!
What an AMAZING transformation!!! And I mean a ...well...a completely gorgeous, amazing, so MANY adjectives here...to describe what you did with your hands, some makeup, and a few brushes...
What a beautiful job, Lisa... You are a magician!!! Not only did she look great on the outside, I could see how she looked at HERSELF in the mirror! You allowed her to see her beauty...and it showed in her expression! You also enabled your viewers to see there IS something they can do to cover up/disguise rosacea/redness... Thank you so very much for sharing this! xx
This video is so helpful for me as an artist! Thank you Lisa for teaching us all something new every time you post! :) Also, Danni is the most GORGEOUS model!
First time popping up in your tutorials. I have Rosacea and this one is
amazing. I'm checking your other videos. Amazing, and for the comments
seems I'm in the right place. Subscribing now!! Greetings from Peru.
In my opinion, the BESTS make up artist!!! The result is always so natural and delicate...unbelievable!
Wow! This is the best tutorial I've ever seen addressing rosacea & oily skin! My skin type & tone is very similar and I'm truly a die-hard Estée Lauder Double Wear fanatic. I tend to add too much coverage & can look a bit grey or cakey. So now that you demonstrated how to deal with these skin issues, I feel there's a new secret weapon in my arsenal...YOU! Thank you 🤗
I have very red skin and I used to steer clear of blush just because of that reason but have learned it looks so much more natural with a touch of blush.
Wow she looks beautiful. That lip color is amazing with her coloring. Wonderful!
She is so GORGEOUS and you really enhanced it in the best possible ways. Your videos are ageless Lisa (and so are you!)
I have rosacea and I can't tell you how happy I am to have found your video. I know that this is an old video and you probably won't get this, but I just wanted to tell you that your makeup tips have made a huge difference in how I do my make up and also how I look at my skin. I've always had a passion for makeup and skin care, but there are so many make up "artists" doing all these trendy things like the huge triangle of concealer and baking the under eye with loads of powder and I just kept trying all the things they say to do and it never worked. Then, the heavens opened up when I found your videos, I've also learned that not everyone has perfect skin and it's videos like this one here that let me know that I'm not alone in my red bumpy face. Thank you again Lisa, and thank you to Danny for being brave and showing her beautiful face.
Thank you for your lovely message. X
can you do an updated video for mature skin with roseaca please. I'm running out of hope. everything I put on ages me
She is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Yessss! This is what I call the "power of makeup". Congratulations Lisa, what an amazing artist you are! Good luck with everything!!! Hugs from Canada.
That cool red lipstick is such a stunning colour on her!
True artist. Beautiful as always!!
Thank you a lot for taking the time to make this video, it's really helpful. To have everything well covered is a precious boost of confidence when you suffer from rosacea. I use natural products in my skincare and makeup routine, i found certain products that work really well to protect and calm my skin, especially the hot flushes on the cheeks that are so embarrassing in public. I can recommend the chamomile and rosehip moisturizer from Pai skincare, not a cheap product but a really good ingredients list. I use a BB cream that has a good staying power(So Bio Etic), as well as the "uncover up" concealer from RMS beauty, i have combination skin and the creamy texture is great for the dry areas (i also use it under my eyes).
Thanks for sharing all your finds with us. I also like Pai skincare x
Lisa is by far the best, I love watching the 2ay she swishes her brushes with the lightest or strokes 😍
As a makeup artist just starting out, I always learn SO much from your videos Lisa. Thank you so much for being so generous to share all your amazing tips and tricks!
This is how makeup should be applied worldwide! Natural, smooth, amazing!
This model is gorgeous!
the end of this tutorial made me smile so big because she looks so so so happy and that just made me really happy. Thank you so much, Lisa.
omg, she looks so natural! I often see beauty gurus putting on so much foundation and it looks like a mask, but somehow you managed to make her skin look natural without the mask look, even before you put on the blush and other products!
Lovely model, btw, beautiful bone structure and lovely eyelashes!
After watching this tutorial I purchased the scultping powder Lisa Eldrige used and I have to say this was the best choice! It's also perfect if you feel like you already covered a lot due to your acne or rosacea and you want a natural contour/blush. This is the most natural sculpting powder I have used! Thank you so much! +Lisa Eldridge
I am curious how she would have finished this look if it wasn't for the statement lips. I also have bleached hair, plus the neutral sculpting powder call for something soft and colourful.
This was one of the most helpful makeup tutorials I've seen because my skin is almost exactly like hers, pale, oily and reddish. All the other videos I've seen goop on a ton of different products then pack on a bunch of setting powder, YUCK. Lisa color corrected and achieved a flawless look without all that extra product! Who wants to wear a pound of makeup on their face anyway? It's uncomfortable and looks weird in natural light. Thanks Lisa! Subbed!
So nice the way you cares with true people and their real life issues like rosacea, menopause etc. Your work is so beautiful and full of sensitivity
Lisa, this is absolutely brilliant. No one would ever think this young lady has any skin issues with the makeup you’ve done for her.
Please do another bridal look! I'm getting married in the fall and I don't like the "typical" bridal makeup. I don't want a smokey eye and nude lips, and I am fair skinned and don't want to be bronzed up and highly contoured. It would be wonderful if you could create a fall inspired bridal look with a bold lip. I realize it's probably not the right season at the moment for that, but even if you get to it sometime in the future I would love it!
Very useful video Lisa! Can you also do makeup tutorial video for person wearing eyeglasses? Thank you.
A lot of people have been asking for this, so I'll definitely try to film something soon x
She has exquisite facial features! She must be a model, she's absolutely beautiful!
This was also extremely helpful to those who suffer from any type of redness; Lisa thank you so much for another wonderful and very useful video, I have learned so much from your videos and I can't thank you enough for showing and sharing your talent!
Love this video! I suffer from rosacea and sometimes I find bronzers difficult to wear, too. I really like the Nyx - Taupe shade for contouring.
Also, I recommend the concealer from Artdeco - "Camouflage Cream" shade 1, which is a beige green colour that hides the red areas on my face.
Thank you, Lisa!
Your work is amazing and the model....wow,she is simply stunning. I learn so much thanks to your videos, so thank you very much Lisa. Lots of love from France ! ❤️
Her face is about 1000x less red than mine but I really don't think anyone should have s problem going out in public without makeup
A truly mastered MUA - Lisa your work is outstanding.
Her model is gorgeous!! Love that she asked really relatable questions.
I cured my rosacea with really good fiber pills. I can even drink wine with no reaction now. Seems like something simple wont help but 70 percentof your immune system is in the gut. I also take good probiotics too. Hope that helps someone
Lisa, you are genius! Thank you for all your explanations about rosacea. Very useful video!
Z lot of compliments and my like to Danni! She is very beautiful and brave!
Thank you both!
She is absolutely beautiful!! I love her reaction to that lip color.
This is gorgeous!!!! Danni is a beautiful lady. You totally transformed her skin. Wow!!! Her skin looks clear & beautiful.
She looks beautiful! How do you remove foundation and sunscreen without rubbing the skin? I have a lot of trouble with that. Thanks for the great video!
WOW!! I honestly believe she is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. That bone structure, eyes, lips, I'm smiling just looking at her!
What a beautiful girl. The shape of her face and every single feature from eyebrows to lips, are perfect (and so symmetrical!)
Danni is just such a stunning human being. Gorgeous with or without makeup!
Ok, I'm a guy and really want to even out my skin tone, however every time I test a foundation or bb cream on the back of my hand, it looks like makeup. It sinks into the crevices, cracks, and wrinkles in my skin, so if someone was up close they would definitely be able to tell that I was wearing makeup. It also looks sort of dry, so when compared with my other hand that doesn't have the makeup on it, it looks like there is definitely makeup on it. If I applied that to my face, it would highlight my pores and look very obvious.
Is there any foundation/bb cream/makeup out there that does NOT look like you're wearing makeup? I want it to look like I have nice skin, with nobody suspecting that I'm wearing makeup at at, even up close.
Lisa, or anyone else, could you possibly think of any recommendations for makeup for men that looks like you are wearing nothing? Or ways of applying it? I have no problem with guys that wear makeup (obviously), but for me, I want it to look like I have nothing on, especially in the harsh unflattering, blemish revealing fluorescent light or bleak harsh light from an overcast day.
Check out Goss make up artist on you tube, he usually applies the products to himself in his tutorials, you might get some tips there.
maudieboy Thanks for the suggestion :) I watch some of his videos here and there sometimes, however I don't think I have seen him make any videos or discuss anything pertaining to this issue as of yet.
I have combination (oily/dry), sensitive skin, large pores plus rosacea/auto immune. Liquid foundation and BB cream dont work well on my skin either. Here is what works best for me and looks natural if done right. Sorry, I know this is a LONG reply!!! If you can't be bothered reading it all I've just summarised some tips in the first section after this.
What works best for me is concealer (under eyes), mineral foundation (All Natural Face) plus facial mist. But as Lisa mentioned its best to use mineral foundation near the end and LESS IS MORE. If you don't need to use concealer (like under the eyes) just use primer/mineral foundation or just mineral foundation. Test makeup on face/neck. Not on hands as hands are a different colour and tend to be dryer/have more wrinkes.
IMPORTANT: In order for makeup to sit well on your face it is not only the application but how you prepare the skin on your face externally/internally.
SKIN CARE EXTERNALLY- It is best to exfoliate skin once a week at night before you sleep . Don't exfoliate in the morning before applying makeup as it aggravates the skin and can dry it out. If you must, at least a few hours beforehand. Weekly exfoliation and moisturising before using makeup prevents patches and build up. Natural cleanser lotions (not gels!) also prevent dryness like Sukin Sensitive skin lotion and using a cotton cloth to gently wipe face and remove makeup. A wet sheet mask applied 30 mins before makeup intensley moisturisers when skin is dry. This thing is amazing!!! Sheet masks can be bought on SASA cheaply (kuan yuan lian box) or made from scratch. Soak a paper towel in green tea/water or hydrating toner and let it sit on face for 5 mins. Don't let it dry out otherwise it will dry out your face.
Don't wash your face in the morning but just splash it with warm water. Splash cool water on eyes. Natural oils on the face really help makeup to look more natural. Also apply moisturiser/zinc moisturiser sunscreen before makeup to prevent dryness. Pat into skin gently/finger tap massage. A facial mist also works wonders for dry patchy and oily skin!!!
IMPORTANT: Some makeup with SPF can make your face look lighter in photos with flash. There are other brands that work really well with photography.
CLEANING OFF MAKEUP - Use a gentle cleanser/warm water to remove makeup. I use SUKIN lotion for sensitive skin. Use a cotton makeup wipe face and cotton bud/ear cleaner to gently remove makeup around eyes. Picks up a lot of excess makeup! Wet wipe makeup removers also work well (but too strong for my sensitive skin). Repeat this step twice. Prevents break outs and skin build up. For heavy makeup days or it won't budge and I dont want to wipe it a lot, I use sensitive body wash. Works really well!
SKIN CARE INTERNALLY - Hydration through drinking lots of water. Green veg/fruit smoothies daily help a lot in hydrating skin, preventing dry patches and minmising wrinkles! Great for a quick breakfast.
MAKEUP APPLICATION - (primer/concealer steps can be skipped)
1. Moisturise skin (if dry) or use sheet mask.
2. Apply a primer (doesn't need to be expensive) on trouble areas (T-zone, under eyes, pores, wrinkles etc). Primer allows makeup to sit well on your face and can prevent pores from being obvious, lines etc. If you don't have a primer, don't worry but I find that it works best for me.
3. Concealer (if needed) - After half a minute or so, apply liquid concealer under eyes if you have shadows. Under eye - use ring finger to pat gently under eyes in the inner corner/half closer to the nose. Don't apply it to the outer corner of your eyes as it will crease when you smile and look less natural. The heat from your fingers lets it sink in. To set concealer under eyes use a little bit of powder. Not too much! Dab powder brush/puff on hand first to remove excess powder. After applying powder, mist with a water bottle. Powder plus mist prevents creases and melting and sets makeup! If you need to apply full face coverage save the powder/water mist step until last. Put concealer on any red/blemish zones or apply more after mineral foundation.
4. Mineral foundation - Know your shade. Pick a shade that matches your chest/body. Don't match it to your face/neck otherwise it won't blend with your body. I use a shade slightly darker/tinted than my face. My body is tanned compared to my pink/lighter face.Use a kabuki brush to apply. Less is more. Use light round buffing motions. Work inwards to outwards. Only apply to areas needed. Don't apply too much on the forehead and don't forget your neck!
5. Powder (not neccessary and can make makup look obvious and your face flat) - If you need more coverage/have really oily skin apply powder (brush or puff) to gently pat into skin BUT this can make your face look less natural. Before application, tap any excess powder onto hand. Facial mist after powder can remove the powdery/fake look and make your face look much more dewy and natural.
6. IMPORTANT LAST STEP!: Mist face with water/facial mist. This is amazing!!! I also mist my face throughout the day like when I go to bathroom or it feels dry. This can get rid of dry patches within a few seconds and keeps your face looking hydrated, natural and not oily. Also, if you face is really oily first try misting it or patting with damp paper towel. Oil blotting sheets are also great. Don't get powdered oil blotting sheets.
7. WAIT a bit after application. Sometimes it takes 5-30 mins for the makeup to set and look more natural. And don't forget practice and knowing your skin can help a lot.
WHERE I GET MY MAKEUP - If you don't have sensitive skin you can purchase makeup from whatever brand that works best for you. I have sensitive skin and my skin broke out from drug store brands. The best and most affordable mineral foundation I've found for my skin is an American brand 'The All Natural Face, vegan cosmetics bath and body.' I'm from Australia so it takes a few weeks for them to prepare the product and another two weeks to receive it but its worth the wait. For 5 dollars you can ask for every shade (sample size) of mineral foundation in your skin range to test them out! I found that the darker the colour the more moistursing they were.
IMPORTANT NOTES: Don't use makeup unless you are going out. I've found that since I switched to using cleaner/makeup brands for sensitive skin and Zinc moisturiser/sunscreen that my skin tone has improve a lot. I only wear makeup for important occassions. My skin tone, pores and dryness/oiliness has also improved a lot since I stopped using a lot of makeup, remove it really well and STOPPED moisturising after I clean it at night. I also dont wash my face if I'm not going out. I noticed that at first when I woke up my skin felt very oily as it was adapting. Now I no longer need to moisturise it unless I am applying makeup just to be safe.
Sorry again that this was so long. Hope this info helps. :)
First off, make sure you are properly prepping your skin with moisturizer (with spf!). Dryness seems like it could be a big problem for you. If your skin is indeed on the drier side, a great sheer foundation is the MAC face and body, looks like skin, it's gorgeous. Set it lightly with a translucent powder and you'll be good to go. Another good on is the Make up forever face and body foundation, it also melts into the skin, this will hold up better than the MAC on oily skin.
Lastly, if despite the moisturizing, you have problems with visible pores, try smoothing on a silicone base primer underneath your foundation.
Hope this was helpful!
Pudding2day Wow thanks for the thorough reply and tips!
Can I ask if you don't match the foundation to your neck, what body part do you match it to? Most makeup artists I've watched videos of say match it to the neck.
Also, I gather that you are saying powder makes it look more obvious that you are wearing makeup? It's not really necessary?
And you don't moisturize or wash your face when you don't wear makeup? Do you not wash your face when you wear sunscreen too?
and lastly, is mineral foundation the best choice for naturalness?
