  • I had a bear of a time learning the tricks of this inarguably excellent LED tape lighting from Kichler, but only when using channels and lenses in our highly customized forever home. For any of you who may try the same thing and want to cry, here's some advice.

I have two little girls too. Mine are a bit younger than yours, but I really appreciate seeing people who also get to operate with the beautiful chaos. You can maintain your focus a heck of a lot better than me! Every one of your videos are gold! Excited to keep seeing the progress.

Really appreciate the details on the channel and tips for actually making it work and look good. Most DIY looks bad because these things are rushed or not thought all the way through.

Thanks Aaron- I’ve been looking around at professional work for the past 13 years and I’d say it largely holds true there as well.

Very excited for the lighting tour. I'm seriously thinking of going with a full new LED lighting system and replacing the traditional wiring for it with cat6. I don't know if you've already determines the pro's / cons. But I'd rather hook up all my transformers in a basement rather than at each fixture.

Yeah, that’s above my pay grade and expertise Brett- but I agree, you should totally put that on your own channel!

I started using LED tape when it was considered architectural lighting and was exorbitantly expensive. So I bought the cheapest rolls of import stuff at the time. Those aluminum rails were $80 a piece then and the same with the rest. I made my own 8' versions from wood so I could mount it to the wood then screw that to the cabinets. I soldered every connection with speaker wire.
Out of all the installs I have done with it I have only had one issue with the led strip itself and that was fixed with a quick reflow of the factory solder. The failure part is the power supplies. I have gone through a few as they will start to shut off intermittently. I even put a bunch inside my abrasive blasting cabinet and have not had a failure and there is no protection for them inside from the media.

Thanks. I really want to know how to put the brackets on just a wall but the angle thing helps!

    @guytech7310 Před 3 lety

One idea been thinking about is install LED stripes under the cabinet toe kick area for night time lighting to provide night time lighting in the dark. When you have to get up to get a drink of water in the middle of the night & don't want to run on the room lights to avoid issues because your eye pupils dilate during sleep.
As another option you could use a small trim board with a 45 degree angle that is fastened to the shelving instead of those aluminum brackets. with wood trim you could adjust the angle to so its 30 or 15 or what ever angle works best.
For the strip soldered joints you can separate them using your soldering iron and some solder wick that will soak up the solder and remove it from the strip. This is used to remove components from a PCB board. You can also get a solder removal vacuum pen that had a spring loaded vacuum plunger. You melt the solder with your iron and then place the vacuum pen and push the button to suck all of the molten solder to remove it.

If you need to attach strips with a wiring, you can just solder a pair of wires (electrical zip cord would work fine) to join the strips. This might be useful if your working in a tight space & cannot use the connectors. Those connectors are intended for solderless install, but since you got the soldering tools, you have options!

Think the issue with the clips for the aluminium channel is that it needs place to bend and when it is all the way in the corner there is no room for it to bend, so maybe leave a mm or two behind it.
Cute kids and wonderful singing 😁😊

And for later, always remember to wipe any surface before gluing on LED strips with alcohol/IPA or acetone to improve the bonding

was removing shelf and suppprts from the wall an option? Install channel and all connections and replace as an entire unit?
Those channels and similar led strips (ws2812b) are what are used on some of the fancy Christmas light shows you see on houses that dance to music. Google how people install those for tons of tips.

You should use COB LED tape where the density is such that you don't need a diffuser.

@8:02 A smart man would have just taken the angle bracket off the wall and simply notched it so the track would just continue down under the shelf.. but that's just me.. cabinet builder for over 23years...

By lens you mean a diffuser. Because there are LED strips with lenses on individual LEDs to focus and project light further.

@@HomePerformance, appreciation for accepting my positive critique.
"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven." This channel and the video are presentations, not Vblogs, are they? I came here to learn, not to be entertained, and soon had to stop as kept loosing my focus. Who can study and think when there is a lot of noise?
As for children, mein Oma und Opa had boundaries, something severely lacking in this generally selfish and self-centered society. One regarding us children was when the adults were having conversation in the home, we either could stay inside and be quiet or go outside. That is not to say we couldn't be loud inside, we could when there was no visitors. And goodness we get rowdy!
Regarding children of my own, myself had been so involved with personal and scholastic pursuits the opportunity to find a partner almost past me by (I am 34). So regretfully I do not have any children of my own, however, I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities with my cousins, my niece, and my nephews. If the season does not come, so be it, we are mere Humans in the Universe.
In conclusion, yes, I do desire and enjoy children, there is a place and time for everything.
