Definitely, the skill is only accomplished by the act of the skill being Accomplished… by the hand of the Nervous ! Not as an Observer ! He shows great eagerness and devotion , or just extremely camera, shy. But he would not be there just for money when easier jobs are at hand ., I truly feel he is devoted, and has great hopes for one day being as skillful and in demand as the master !
I love the colour that Gwen and Michael picked out for the walls especially with the fireplace. The room is going to be beautiful. I miss seeing "The Boss" checking in to make sure you are all behaving lol. It's such a large property I'm sure everyone is very busy most of the time. Yannis has grown so much in his skill and confidence, He will always be able to find work - what a gift to have a teacher like Simon. Thank you for sharing this special moment!
Billy, it’s ok to say that Simon and Yanis are passionate about their work, even though they are being paid. When employees are passionate about their work, their work takes on a new dimension. They are quite an inspiration.
An earlier commenter said there was a clash between the wall colour and the fireplace. Taking an element of an overall design scheme in isolation, doesn't really do justice to the effort Gwendolyn and Michael have put in on this project. The furnishings and accessories will no doubt tie everything together harmoniously. An overall design plan has no really stand out features, the whole melds into a pleasing place to be.

In fact most spaces have several stand out features that compliment each other while other aspects of the room may be neutral. Like the Kitchen at the Convent has several features that stand out. The stove in the fireplace. The fire place, The chandelier, The Coffee Machine, The Island, the magnificent floor, The New Stove and Fridge, The Dishwashers - all in black and chrome. I can't wait to see the sinks go in. This room with that paint against the Fireplace is perfect! 13:33
Michael, I agree. I will roll on a patch and then brush it out. The roller, no matter how smoothe, will leave a texture. The paints, particularly the saturated color, seem to hold the impression. Beautiful color. Yanis, congratulations on your skills. Will miss Simon. Billy, my brothers and I made casts of medallions and other plaster mouldings. If you have more rooms needing medalians, it's something to consider. Though, it is labor saving to purchase them when you have so many tasks and rooms to address. Cheers all!
Love the color of the bedroom, and Michael will have it looking great in no time. For rooms that can be gloomy during the day, have lots of lamps, of varying sizes, to create warm pools of light. Corners can be especially dreary, and a floor lamp, or table lamp, can warm them up. The chandelier will be lovely, but give it plenty of back-up with lamps.
This moment with Yanis, Simon and you Billy, appreciating Yanis' work moved me a lot. because Yanis' Thank-you goes far beyond..., and encompass the learning he received from both of you! Yes you are orchestrating, but Simon and Yanis are indeed passioned, as are you Billy! I love the color Madeleine of 'little green'! and yes, painting with a brush my Old Restaurer and Antiquedealer Friend Jean-Marie always told me....: Paint with a brush! because the stroke makes paint adhere better to the surface below, especially on Wood! ....and O-m-G Michael, glad you remind me ...tomorrow is indeed the 1st of March!
I was watching the part where Yanis was doing the plastering and the whole time all I could think was I wish I could plaster like that. Fantastic work.
Cluster/Attic flies - Cluster flies look like House Flies but are slightly larger and more sluggish in their movements. Their name "cluster" fly comes from their habit of forming clusters before hibernating over the winter. They are also called "attic flies," because of their habit of clustering in the attics. They appear on sunny, warm days during late fall, winter, or early spring days. They used to hibernate around the windows in our old victorian house (UK). (Apparently they come from the lawn/ part of their life cycle) - I bought 'cluster buster's which are like plastic rectangular boxes with sticky tape to stick to the bottom of the window - filled with a talcum powder stuff - the flies buzz on the glass and fall into the opening slit in the plastic box, get covered in the talcum powder stuff and can't fly out. You need to persevere (maybe a couple of seasons). I was so amazed that I hadn't heard of them before cause apparently they are quite common - I used to get so freaked out wondering if I had dead things somewhere under the floorboards or chimneys or something! - it was so nasty to have flies buzzing about especially in the kids' bedrooms. But not been bothered for years now - I keep a couple of cluster busters just in case but they've never come back.
My grandfather was a carpenter and painter who passed in about 1960. My dad had all his drop cloths and used them throughout his life. He divided them up between me, my brother, and the grandsons.
It’s really amazing how much the ceiling medallion adds to the feel of the room. Yanis is doing great on the plastering. Michael is right about the finish of the brush and roller.

We always painted the darker parts of the house a bright cheery color. My stairway is a similar color called golden maize. Helps brighten the place up.
Simon and Yanis are doing an incredible job. My bedroom is a harvest yellow. My Mother picked the colour years ago and we still love it… it does make the room cheerful. I’m enjoying seeing you back at the Chateau. I’m sure you still have a lot to finish here as well..

I have to say, mustard isn't my first choice for wall color either. I once made the mistake of painting a north facing kitchen in banana yellow. I should have had my sanity checked first! The first chance I get, I'm painting it Arctic white!
It feels like you're calling that beautiful yellow color names, by calling it mustard 😂 Btw, I wouldn't go arctic white on a north facing room. It'll be so cold. Banana yellow may be a bit much in the warm direction, but arctic white will be too much in the other direction, I think. I would pick a nice warm off-white instead!
Love the paint color. Michael will make that room look like it was always suppose to be that color. I can imagine that room with it all painted and the chandelier hanging and the bed and furniture in there. It's going to be so beautiful. I love watching this Chateau come back to life. It so deserves it. It's like a magical Chateau. With the towers and the spires and it's just breath taking.
Well done Yannis, the plastering looked faultless. Well done Simon for being a brilliant teacher. I like the newness of the ceiling rose, it says you are maintaining the property. I use a paint pad as you can do large areas with the precision of a brush. Love the colour of the new paint too. 🙂

I'm with you Michael, I love painting with a brush and flat paint, currently painting the entire outside of my house by myself, neighbors think I'm crazy...and they would be right,,,love that color, it'll be so sunny and cozy...I'm using a Terra cota color, looks great with the greenery...but Billy, you are workhorse and a perfectionist...you both inspire...!!!
( Only 4 minutes in )... But that drone sequence of you driving to the convent and back again was something else !!! The drone work was phenomenal, and the way you reduced what was quite a lengthy / prosaic part of your morning into something so short, to the point, but really engaging.... *blows chefs kiss. Loved it!
When you are the project manager, it always feels as though you never personally get much work done. However, that is a fallacy as the amount of planning, running about getting materials, and then also doing filming and editing takes up so much time. It is often more satisfying doing the actual work and seeing progress. My husband did not care for painting, so I was delegated to prepping and cutting in and doing trim while he tackled the walls. He liked that because he could see rapid results🤩

Billy, I saw that with the hand 🤨 you need to get a compression sleeve WITH thumb support for your hand please you're getting tendonitis, I know because I have it in my thumb and wrist I have 2 hand sleeves, one with extra thumb support, one brace, and a splint depending on the pain level 😶 I'm 62, you're still young, please get 1 or 2 to try, it really will help slow damage!! 🥰🥰🥰

The wall’s already look so much better with jut the fresh plaster. Anxious to see the colors Mike picked for the walls and trim. I agree caulking is messy, more seems to go on me that whatever I am working on.
I'm loving the music that is reminiscent of the themes from Downton Abbey over the last couple of videos! For the issues with caulk on your hands, I have heard (no personal experience here) that adding a bit of washing up liquid, what we call dish soap here in the states, to some water to dip your finger in before you smooth out the caulk, helps prevent the sticking and also creates a smoother surface, with less frequent need to clean your hands in the midst of applying caulk. Apparently the surfactants in the washing up liquid really help. Simon and Yannis both have an amazing work ethic, BUT--they are free to stay so focused and work so quickly because they aren't keeping so many plates spinning while they work, as you are. You are facilitating their ability to focus by staying on top of all the project management tasks. You enable them to do well--many people would be thrilled to have such a supportive employer!
Love that «cake» (or sort of yellow straw) color, it's sunny and lovely. In a classic style of chateau like yours these colors are called «historic colors». Beautiful. ♥ Suggestion: put the base of the wall with the moulding white. You are going to see how gorgeous this room is going to be! Beautiful. My entire house is done with these kind of moulding and its white at the base. Whatever color you put to fit with its always fabulous, rich and luminous. It's alway's beautiful and the look is chic. The furniture around look stunning.
Great job Yannis & Simon on plastering. Waiting to see that color dry, but for now doesn't look like it goes with fireplace marble, but I don't have to look at it everyday & it is your personal choice. It will be a relief to have the rooms done & paying guests. The hallway with stairs will be a challenge, best of luck!

I am wondering if it might be nice to put it out to all your fellow château owners to send a framed picture of their property and some background on their buildings. You can put some in the hallways, especially if you create a high-end boutique (or not). I know of one château that is almost identical to yours, even the beams in the one room are the same, with the exception that theirs has been painted with intricate details. Château de la Grifferaie in the Loire Valley. Love your vlog.

It is hard to judge a color till the wall decor is up and room is filled with furnishings. The color cannot stand alone .

The drone work was phenomenal, and the way you reduced what was quite a lengthy / prosaic part of your morning into something so short, to the point, but really engaging.... *blows chefs kiss. Loved it!

When you are the project manager, it always feels as though you never personally get much work done. However, that is a fallacy as the amount of planning, running about getting materials, and then also doing filming and editing takes up so much time. It is often more satisfying doing the actual work and seeing progress. My husband did not care for painting, so I was delegated to prepping and cutting in and doing trim while he tackled the walls. He liked that because he could see rapid results🤩
Yannis, fabulous job on the plastering. You have a fantastic mentor. We know you will miss Simon as much as we all will.micheal, that madeline paint color is beautiful. It is going to look very grand.❤

Billy, I saw that with the hand 🤨 you need to get a compression sleeve WITH thumb support for your hand please you're getting tendonitis, I know because I have it in my thumb and wrist I have 2 hand sleeves, one with extra thumb support, one brace, and a splint depending on the pain level 😶 I'm 62, you're still young, please get 1 or 2 to try, it really will help slow damage!! 🥰🥰🥰

I'm loving the music that is reminiscent of the themes from Downton Abbey over the last couple of videos! For the issues with caulk on your hands, I have heard (no personal experience here) that adding a bit of washing up liquid, what we call dish soap here in the states, to some water to dip your finger in before you smooth out the caulk, helps prevent the sticking and also creates a smoother surface, with less frequent need to clean your hands in the midst of applying caulk. Apparently the surfactants in the washing up liquid really help. Simon and Yannis both have an amazing work ethic, BUT--they are free to stay so focused and work so quickly because they aren't keeping so many plates spinning while they work, as you are. You are facilitating their ability to focus by staying on top of all the project management tasks. You enable them to do well--many people would be thrilled to have such a supportive employer!
Love that «cake» (or sort of yellow straw) color, it's sunny and lovely. In a classic style of chateau like yours these colors are called «historic colors». Beautiful. ♥
Suggestion: put the base of the wall with the moulding white. You are going to see how gorgeous this room is going to be! Beautiful. My entire house is done with these kind of moulding and its white at the base. Whatever color you put to fit with its always fabulous, rich and luminous. It's alway's beautiful and the look is chic. The furniture around look stunning.

Great job Yannis & Simon on plastering. Waiting to see that color dry, but for now doesn't look like it goes with fireplace marble, but I don't have to look at it everyday & it is your personal choice. It will be a relief to have the rooms done & paying guests.

Looks like the neutral yellow in my 1880s restored home.
I am wondering if it might be nice to put it out to all your fellow château owners to send a framed picture of their property and some background on their buildings. You can put some in the hallways, especially if you create a high-end boutique (or not). I know of one château that is almost identical to yours, even the beams in the one room are the same, with the exception that theirs has been painted with intricate details. Château de la Grifferaie in the Loire Valley. Love your vlog.
