Considered a flop or not, this video is iconic, almost-too-hot-for-TV Mariah. If her singing was a little less breathy it would probably have been a bigger hit. Her voice gets a little lost/drowned out in the music. It also has a different melisma style that hadn't been really seen in prior hits or since then. It's a weird unicorn song of hers, but I still sort of dig it.
I blame the production for that. They put the whispery voices too forward and her actual singing can barely be heard in the chorus, when it should be backwards. Her main singing should be in the front and her breaths/whispers should be in the background more subtly. Pretty much the only recognizable parts of the song are the verses.
Go listen to the Loverboy (firecracker version) which was the original version of this song. Due to musical issues with her ex-husband and another artist, she ended up releasing this version of the song. But in the original version, you can see the song fleshed out a little more. But this version is still great!
