- We take a crack at another hip hop classic, The Pharcyde's "Passin' Me By"... perhaps J-Swift's most well-known track. For educational purposes only.
CORRECTION: after being contacted via The Pharcyde's official Twitter account, I'm told that J-Swift didn't do the production despite being credited with having done it on the record. Production credit remained a contested issue after the fact. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bizarre_...

Watch The Pharcyde's "Passin' Me By" on CZcams: • The Pharcyde - Passin'... - Hudba
Why did he stop making videos? They were great he broke it down sample by sample
I know! I just watched all his videos today! I want more!
+Sam Alexander there's a guy called sandurz here on CZcams that does something similar but he doesn't really talk about his feelings about the track or Biography stuff about the producers
***** Thanks man! I've been looking for someone like this even though that post was 2 years ago
Sam Alexander didnt realize it was 2 years ago lmao
***** Yeah haha it's been a while but thanks for the suggestion, I'll check out that channel
excellent work on this one. truly makes me appreciate the work that J-Swift put into this record. Makes me fall in love with the song all over again
you missed a sample, friends by whodini, scratched in the chorus
Big shout out to my guy Skull Snaps frontman Erv Waters
damn! you took me back to the past on these. i love to hear the making of one of my favorite songs ever.
I think you have the bitcrushing thing a little bit backwards. Low-pass filters were included in vintage samplers to help get rid of the hissing sounds introduced by having low sample rates and bit depths. Users were supposed to use the filters to manually dull out the hiss, but some went way to far with it on purpose to isolate bass lines. So when trying to emulate vintage samplers, you should bitcrush the sample first, then apply whatever filtering is needed. Although in cases like that when you're filtering down to the bass, bitcrushing it first doesn't really matter 'cause you're filtering out everything that the bitcrusher added in the first place. Hope that made sense, and P.S. Please start making videos again! We all love em!
Great job and info. Love hearing about the make-up of old school hip hop songs. I know that took crazy time. Solid.
Love your videos man! You do a great job each time! You should remake Chief Rocka by Lords of the Underground
Geezan!!! Crazy!!!
every time I cover a song I gain a new appreciation for it
Dope job as usual!
GREAT JOB!!! Lord knows I could not do the same and I been digging for years....
thanks a lot! I loved your take on it :D Really inspiring ^^
Another amazin video, #DeconstructingHipHop FTW !
I just found this channel and I'm in heaven

Man...good stuff bro! Gotta check out your other vids.
thx. I've got most of Chief Rocka done but I'm missing a sample that I can't find. I'm dying to do a K-Def beat (we're from the same hometown)
The Bomb Squad made the beats not the Dj Terminator X
thx fam... I tried my best. One of the Pharcyde tweeted me and corrected me about the production credit for this one
great job as usual!
Great job as usual good sir. Could you redo a Gang Starr beat? I would love to see how you would tackle a Premier beat.
Thx.... glad u liked it :)
thx for the s/o... I love me some hip hop :)
Dope !!!!!!
I do want to do an Ice Cube joint but "it was a good day" is a little too easy... it's just and Isley Brothers sample looped over and over... but I'm def lookin to cover one of his tracks. thx for the s/o
great job
Greetings, this is one of the greatest tracks Ever!!! I am going to try and remake it also and let my son and lady do the rap over it!!! Fun times remaking a track that was amazing. Thank you for posting this video.
What part of Jersey are you from? I use to live in Cherry Hill for a while and on the Military base.
i grew up in Cherry Hill
@@upful_life yoooooo, I use to live in Cherry Hill NJ as well. I was stationed up in NJ and use to record all over the place up there. Small world.
thx, fam
thx fam
There's a very distinct static missing...it was on my tapes...cd...and mp3. Was it a sample or? It wasnt on this. if anyone else is still checking out this let me know.
probably grain from their sampling of the quincy jones record
Nooooooo,not terminator x.......the bomb squad
I might but I'll probably use iOS to do it since there's not a lot going on with that track. Maybe I'll use iMaschine
Wow, good job man.
Oh I definitely will
coming from a veteran in the game, that means a lot. Thx :)
No prob, and cool man. And I think I found the horn sample, if that is what you're looking for. I submitted it to Whosampled, but I haven't gotten a confimation email yet. But here is the link to it. The sample is at the beginning.
/watch?v=EZTaaq0UvnM
keep it up
I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS THIS IS A GOOD jOB! BTW if you want to learn how to make beats start with remakes! GREAT JOB!
Hella.
damn son that was good
thx, fam :)
The Jimi Hendrix sample aren't backwards drums, that's him scraping the pick over muted guitar strings.
I have a feeling its both backward drums and scraping the guitar strings
The Hendrix sample has reversed symbols, but it's mostly a muted guitar strumming played backwards. Cool video though.
you're missing a sample.
+Cee Brown yes he is missing friends by whodini
Cee Brown Naw its a vocal sample so it dont really count
J Barrier what's the vocal sample?
Cee Brown what's the sample?
Whodini one love
thats dope he sampled jimi hendrix
He didn't choo the drums correctly and the whodini hook is not there
