Fires, droughts, floods, and crop failures will cause much suffering and drive many from their lands in the years to come. How will you know what to do? Where to go? Who to be with? I highly recommend the book The Great Waves of Change by Marshall Vian Summers (dot org - free online as an ebook).
"The Great Waves is the essential resource each person needs to prepare themselves mentally, emotionally and practically for the great change that is coming. If enough people can undertake this preparation, humanity will have the strength, compassion and resilience to pass through the difficult period ahead into a New World reality."

Chamise and chaparral both will retain their green appearance, even when the live fuel moisture (the amount of water in the plant) is well below the level allowing the brush to burn.

Tell me again how PG&E did anything to abort these fires with the power shut off in northern California . If you look closely at the fires you can see high voltage lines running right through sections of these fires .

Joe Wilson - precisely correct! They shut the power off to start the fired where they wanted to. Fact!

California ecology is built to burn. In fact it needs frequent fires to work. Thinking we can prevent fires in CA is simply crazy.

That’s why I don’t understand why people build their homes in those areas.

In 1975, our Sylmar High Forestry Class planted over 100 saplings along the top of Tampa Ave next to the Getty oil fields. 2 years ago, I drove by with my son and marveled at how tall they were. Now.........GONE! My heart goes out to the folks in the fire’s path too! I was a USFS Hotshot also and wish I could be there helping now!

Used to be. I'm native, both parents are native. Used to be a paradise, but then millions of people thought so too and moved here and took out native plants to try to make their homes look like Ohio. But It's not as though my grandparents didn't move here from the east, and although it hurts, exclusion would hurt worse.

Kim Brannon, check out Nathaniel West's The Day of the Locust. A 1939 novel about Armageddon in Hollywood.
"Tod didn't laugh at the man's rhetoric. He knew it was unimportant. What mattered were his messianic rage and the emotional response of his hearers. They sprang to their feet, shaking their fists and shouting."
"But whether he was happy or not it is hard to say. Probably he was neither, just as a plant is neither. He had memories to disturb him and a plant hasn't, but after the first bad night his memories were quiet."
Nathanael West, The Day of the Locust

@Patsy Faulkner Some kind of ray? I saw all of the videos of that fire and the only thing I saw that looked like "some kind of ray" was lens flares and camera artifacts. Live trees are full of water. You think maybe that's why they didn't burn? Go cut a branch off a live tree and try to burn it. See what happens.
