    You can also leave them on water after you peeled them. The shell will raise up and then remove it easily.

    After separating in the mortar try screning the mixture in a 1/4" or 3/16 screen. The larger unhulled seeds will stay on top and the smaller hulled seeds and bits of hull will fall through. Then blow gently on the mixture to remove the small pieces of hull to get clean seeds.

    Do you have to wait and let the sunflower heads dry before you crush them? Or can you do them while they’re freshly picked.

  • @Angie_P

    Could you put them in the water after you crushed them? I read somewhere that the seeds will sink to the bottom and the skins will float. Then you can scoop the skins out.

    • @OnyxFoodHill
      @OnyxFoodHill  Před 4 lety +3

      Yes that's another method of selecting the seeds from the skin

    i saw someone using a filter after the motor part
    The 'pan filter' looks similar to the bar filters by the sink that enables water to go down the drain but traps everything else...
    But its a pan-size filter that separates the shell from the seed and the whole process was completed within 3 minutes with the tool w/o having to try and separate them with the naked eye... and it also won't create a shelly mess on the floor.

    Maybe using a rolling pin and then the mortar is more effective for breaking all the shells.
    Then why not using water to sparate the edible and the shells?

    I wonder if you can separate the broken shell from the seed with a wind tunnel? Just an old barrel from a clothes dryer cocked at an angle, with a fan blowing through it? I bet I could rig the whole thing to an old bicycle, fan and all. Hmm...makes me think.

    • @OnyxFoodHill
      @OnyxFoodHill  Před 3 lety +1

      You have to try that. When the air is much, both the seeds and shell gets blown away.
