Every QB in the league can thank Daniel Jones for setting 40 million as the new starting QB minimum. If the worst QB in the league gets 40 million then that's where negotiations start for everyone.

Giants fan here. DJ is far from ideal but he’s middle of the pack. You couldn’t even judge him last season. Our line had him seeing ghosts from week 1 and he wasn’t healthy. I don’t agree with paying him what we did, but he’s had the deck stacked against him his entire career. And who was there to throw to? The key was supposed to be Darren Waller but naturally he was hobbled all year. Worst I can say about Jones is that he’s mediocre.

As odd as it sounds, the market reset will probably come from Purdy. Think about it. Purdy has 2 NFC championship appearances and 1 superbowl appearance regardless of how much or little he was carried by the team depending on who you ask. Other teams will go to their qb and say "Can you do what Purdy did?" and then go based on whatever pay Purdy gets from his contract. Weird world we live in but that's just how it is now.

Lot of armchair GMs in this chat. None of you know anything. The market for QBs in the NFL is insane, it is what it is, period. QBs who are 6-12 ranked are going to be at least 40+ million. That is the market value, you gotta play to pay. I can tell none of y'all know anything about business. Tua is in the 6-9 range with a solid argument for being 5. Again it is what it is. If Miami let's him walk the same people saying "get rid of Tua" are going to be the same people complaining "Miami is so bad." Actually good QBs are hard to find, not running first QBs (Justin Fields) Pocket QBs are what you really need. Look at Lamar, great runner, not great in the pocket, hasn't made a super bowl. MVPs are cool but irrelevant. Lamar hasn't made a superbowl but you know who has? Actual pocket QBs like Goff, Burrow, and Purdy. Mahomes is an anomaly because there hasn't ever been a QB elite at both, maybe Steve Young is the closest. Tua is going to get his bag because 1. The market is the way it is and 2. Tua has substantially improved every single year. Led the league in a few major passing statistics. Tua is a better QB than 99.99999% of the population and in the NFL maybe 5 QBs are better. Cope harder clowns.

Sorry, but if he can't win a division title or playoff game with the roster we've had around him these last 2 years, going on 3, and 5 years total, then why would paying him 50+ million be any better moving forward? Isn't the goal to beat the best teams and win a championship? If you can't do that while he's cheap and with a good roster, then why waste another 3-5 years trying to do it with a worse roster? Waddle, Philips and/or Holland are due big money, too. You can't settle for mediocrity by paying a qb that can't help you get over the hump just because you don't know who the next guy will be. The job of the GM is to bring a championship to Miami, not to just be competitive. Unfortunately, this is a salary cap league. If your qb is making 50+ million, then you can't build the same around him. If we can't even win this division, then why not try and get someone who can give us a shot while still being able to build a good team around him? The team will only get worse talent wise the next 3 years, not better. I'm all for letting this year play out to see if Tua can do it, but if we get the same results and he can't come up in big moments in a contract year, then when will he do it? I love the guy, but this is football related. He's a great face of the franchise and great person. I have nothing bad to say about him, he's a solid qb, just not 50+ million solid.
