  • Kala Ramnath guides participants through the Alap, opening section of a Raga performance, while introducing the sliding ornamentations (meend) and its importance in giving authentic nuance to the sound of Raga music. Proper sliding ornamentations give the strongest flavor of Indian Raga music, and is often heard in the Alap which opens the Raga presentation with pure melody, free from any rhythmic cycle (Tala). www.carnegiehal...
The Zakir Hussain Workshop, presented by the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall from April 13-19, 2009, was a chance for experienced musicians of any instrument and style to expand their existing knowledge through the guidance of tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain and his colleagues.

She is teaching. If she was not passionate she herself won't even learn to play it

Indian musicians worship their instruments... It's not just an object for them.. It's God's vehicle for connecting with the divine. So yes u can feel the connection there.

I like this, but there is no place for many instruments here such as the Bassoon because the double reed instruments can't play glissando, it is very OK with the string instruments, here I can see the cello do that easily, even easier than the violin because the position of cello similar to the teacher here. Thanks for this lovely experiment.

so true. Excusable maybe for the keyed instruments, but for the bowed strings they really should have more faith in their ears! It's not like the raga notes are 12 TET anyway :')
