    The watercolor pencil was nifty! I wouldn't have thought of that.

      I thought that’s what you meant when you suggested I use pencils! Is there a different version you use?

      @@DeeJayBeStudios Lol! I use Prismacolor pencils and white charcoal pencils. I actually haven't seen a watercolor pencil since I was little so I totally forgot about them.

      I find the Prismacolors way too waxy. These guys are much chalkier, which I find a better consistency for all products. But perhaps I should try & test it out. Thanks for that recommendation though!

    I love using oils. With those, you do the dapples in dark to light. I normally wait til the first layer is almost dry, then add the blending layer(hairs etc). Then wait til those are dry(thoroughly dry) then add the next layers of white. Slowly blending each layer. It is a long tedious techneque, but worth it.

    Thanks so much for this video. I'm a novice customizer and I've had success with my own method of dappling in pastels, but I really like your pencil technique and plan to give it a try, especially on the Stablemates.

    This might sound like a dumb question. Can you make a dapple breyer if you don't have an air brush? like can you do it with Pastels or Acrylic paint or both? Sorry if it sounds dumb

  • @MichelleField
    @MichelleField Před 3 lety +2

    What do you use for sealing and layering the soft pastels?
    I am making a grey dapple on a classic model and I will be primarily be using soft pastels for the coat colour and dapples besides the white markings which will be done in watered down acrylics. I have heard that hair spray can work but I am not sure how effective that is? I do own a Winsor & Newton gloss spray varnish I am planning to spray over the model when he is done but I don’t think that would work for just sealing and layering the pastel.

    Have you tried Vallejo miniature paint?

    Hello! please tell, pastel on a horse sticks to fingers? Can I varnish it with a brush? or a brush with varnish will ruin the pastel and smear it?

    • @DeeJayBeStudios
      @DeeJayBeStudios  Před 4 lety +3

      You cannot touch the pastel once it is applied. It will leave fingerprints. You need to use an aerosol spray as painting on sealer will just smear the pastel around. It will not work.

    When using the pastel method should the base coat be sealed before doing the dapples or no?

    • @DeeJayBeStudios
      @DeeJayBeStudios  Před 7 měsíci +1

      The base coat, yes. The dapple layer should only be sealed once the dapples are complete.
