    Being able to do this was kind of a deciding factor to me pulling the trigger on this car last week. Thank you mate. Have everything in this video on the way currently lol

    This is some of the best GR Corolla content on the web, but could you spruce it up with some gravel-slinging burnouts?! lol

    Great project idea!
    - I think short-term I'm going w/ a Modern Spare Kit w/ a carry case (that way I can throw it in the hatch on longer trips)
    - Longer term, I do the insert project so that I can situate it in the vehicle
    It woud be great if someone sold pre-cut inserts! I'd buy in a heartbeat

      I agree, I would totally be in on the idea of a precut foam piece for the cargo area

    Thanks for documenting this in a video, & items list. I really don't back this idea of "weight saving" & removing the option for a spare tire especially for a car enthusiast's leaning car

    • @Springtailsolutions
      @Springtailsolutions  Před 9 měsíci +4

      I agree, 100%. Even if the company took the route of jeep and Ford bronco… And just offered a bunch of their mods, it would be nothing for them to make up a new pad for the back and throw spare tire kit together.
      Although I wish they would just redesign the Styrofoam support to except a spare if you want to put it in.

    I ended up putting a subwoofer under the back where you put the spare, so I guess I'm SOL on getting a spare lol. I love that idea for a spare and it looks like it turned out great!
    For my project the sub box is a hair too thick so I had to put risers on the bottom of the foam to lift it up ~ 1/5th of an inch. It would've been perfect but the floor is super uneven under the foam.

    Excellent attention to detail. I did a template (21"?} for the cut. Just gave it to a local Toyota shop tech who just bought a Circuit like yours. The spare tire thing gets me, heck at least the option of one. My girlfriend isn't buying a Corolla Cross hybrid because of that. Thanks for posting

    • @Springtailsolutions
      @Springtailsolutions  Před 9 měsíci

      Yep…I think modern spare is going to make a lot of money of this new trend. At least the Corolla has a place to put the spare. I had to strap it to my back seat in my model Y. Lol.

      I was with you on trying to get the tire to fit. Tried a couple times, then put my heart into it, snug. Went for a short walk in the neighborhood this morning and saw a 2" woodscrew patiently waiting for a tire. Good work on your video.@@Springtailsolutions

    I have that same air compressor on mine except when I bought the car it didn’t come with it so I had to buy it separately, but it’s the same exact unit. I’ve used it a couple times on bicycle tires, and things like that as I haven’t had to air up my Corolla‘s tire, no scratch that I’ve had to do that one time but it worked flawlessly that little compressor I’m really happy with it

  • @Ax89

    Many car manufacturers seem to be doing this. If they were smart, they would would form cut lines in that moulded foam part and then sell spare tires as an option. I haven't had many flats in the last 20 years, but I have had flats and having to sit and wait for roadside service just seems seriously dumb to me.

    Do you need hub centric rings to fit with the spare tire?

    • @Springtailsolutions
      @Springtailsolutions  Před 10 měsíci +1

      It did come with a hub centric ring….However, hub-centric rings don’t carry any load and are not required for a secure installation. Wheel centering rings to ensure a perfect bond and minimize the chance of higher speed vibrations (which you won’t be doing on a skinny spare tire).

  • @LoveLikeaHurricane
    @LoveLikeaHurricane Před 6 měsíci

    How much will it mess up the diffs? Or is the diameter pretty close to stock ?

    • @Springtailsolutions
      @Springtailsolutions  Před 6 měsíci

      The Modern Spare is 25.5 inches in diameter and my 235/40R18 tires are 25.4 inches....so no, not an issue in my case.

  • @anuar.m.y

    what if you store it flat ish with like 15 PSI and keep the compressor at hand

    • @Springtailsolutions
      @Springtailsolutions  Před 3 měsíci

      They do make compact collapsible spares....but this is not one of those. So it would not make a difference if you took the air out as the tire would not be smaller.

    Personally I would have only have done this if the Toyota repair kit proved inadequate.
    Perhaps Toyota went with the repair kit for weight savings since this is a high performance car. But I would say they should have provided the spare anyway. If an owner takes the car to a track to race it they can simply take the spare out.
