- 8000 Miles to Alaska: A Journey Along the Longest Border in the World | Free Documentary Nature
What is America? Just a huge, spacious and naturally wild country - or is it still a project? And who are the Americans? A torn nation of people without roots and history - or more than all of this? What unites, what divides, what characterises and what changes them? How different are their daily lives, even now, in the icy cold, snowbound winter - depending on whether they live on Maine's remote outer islands, or in arctic Deadhorse, near the Great Lakes or in the prairies of the mid-West, in the Blackfoot reservation in the Rocky Mountains, or on board a yacht from Seattle?
To discover America's characteristics and their transition - always with a view to the people and how they perceive "home" - Klaus Scherer travels through his host country on a route hitherto neglected by previous reporters: along the north border. Thus, a program event is created, whose highly visual landscape and nature photographs, along with personal experiences, connect with those we meet, visit and accompany along the way - from the dwarf school on Monehegan Island, to the head gaffer of the Niagara Falls; from wolf and bear monitors in Idaho, to the ice fishers at the Arctic Circle.

To Discover America's soul, America's people, America's traditions, its character - our reporter Klaus Scherer travels through the United States on a route hitherto neglected by most of his colleagues: 8000 Miles to Alaska from East to West along the Northern Border to Canada. This documentary conjures up an event of breathtaking landscapes, untouched nature, along with personal encounters of the human and the animal kind. There are some friendly bears there. And friendly people too.
Our reporter helps answer the eternal question: what is America? More than just endless stretches of land between some of the coolest cities on the coasts - east and west. There are cool people in between too.
Reporter Klaus Scherer delves into the issues that unite and divide a people with many different roots, backgrounds and life-styles. How different daily lives can be - living in the icy cold, in sparsely populated farmlands or on a yacht along the shores of Seattle.
THAT WAS SUCH AN INTERESTING VIDEO I LOVED IT THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!!
Your reporter is not even American! And he just insulted 90% of the Alaskan people! We are not "GUN FREAKS!" We have less gun crimes than the lower 48 and are more responsible. We have never had any kind of shootings and other garbage like down there. And do you know why? Because most Alaskans are armed, people tend not to want too rob, steal, and murder honest hard working people who pay taxes, own their homes, and work for everything they INSTEAD OF HAVING IT HANDED TOO THEM! Stop with conditioning of the masses. Next time if there is a next time, have a real Alaskan do the narrating, you will an honest look at what Alaska truly is, instead of labeling us all a bunch of "gun freaks". I thought this a documentary, not an attack on Alaskan Freedom.
Thank you ❤️
How “good” we have it is only a matter of perception. I’d much rather live there.
لاإله إلا الله محمد رسول الله ❤❤❤
I loved this documentary. We, in the comfort of our homes in the lower 48, do not realize how good we have it. We complain about the cold, price of gas, whatever we can find to complain about and the native Alaskans are the opposite. They are thankful for every little thing. Bless them and their strength.
Amen to DAT..

@@kewsiyehboah6058 DAT is as Dutch as THAT. DAT weet je niet?
Not just native born Alaskan’s appreciating what we got up here! Best fishing, scenery, wilderness, wildlife, lifestyle, low crime, clean air on earth! Take a poll, ask Alaskan residents if they born up here! Most weren’t! Most moved from other states, realized how unique and awesome it is and stayed!😳😳😉
Don’t get too liberal on us
Excellent documentary. My respect for the native Americans who live on that tiny island
Good on you Frank Leo and Butch conserving and caring for those truly beautiful horses
This documentary brought tears to my eyes, what have we lost, or will lose in time. The native Americans have got it right, long may they prosper.
Native populations almost always have the use of their own lands right on with what mother earth would have done it herself.becuse they have had thousands of years to get it right.... right is what makes natural processes do better for themselves, and 🚫 especially for mankind, native people and plants, and animals, people being in the animal group. The last member to join all of the rest only so recently. Within the last 100,000 years. Human beings are the newest thing to be placed on earth. As it's own secret entity. But, everything on planet earth has to get along in harmony with all others needs to. Or will never work long enough to bring peace back to my seriously sick planet. And the only way to save it. Is to save it All,, or it's no going to work.
I think the word « losing » is narcissistic a bit.. not too much… a bit… he should’ve said « we learn in time, what time learn to us » because losing is something hard for everyone, learning is something everyone can accomplish and we together as humans needs to learn that we need to save the earth. we need to learn therefore we will accomplish. haha im weird sometimes
We need to learn how to listen to each other, learn how to love, we need to learn how to trade with each other equally, learn the respect, learn how to treat each other equally, I pass on a lot but we will with time learn all of this, I don’t think we will ever lose anymore 😌
@@Y4WN most people already know how to treat eachother fairly and with respect; we just need to shove off those that profit from the planets rapid destruction.
@@Y4WN u like poop?
One of my favorite documentaries. So pleasantly surprised to have stumbled upon this

Our beautiful country. Wouldn't trade it for the world.
This was a good documentary glad to have found it. I have always wanted to go to maine, washington and alaska especially alaska. Lately I've been watching alot of videos in alaska and that urge to go there grows stronger. Loved seeing the horses.
Thank-you- beautiful to see our country from another's perspective- very well done- very intimate not touristy. thanks!
I live in the Pacific Northwest in N. Idaho, he would've driven through my town to film this beautiful show. N. western US is a special place, frontier spirit still strong.
Loved seeing the town that US Canadian boarder runs through it, and lines on the floors show the boarder. Niagara Falls is Beautiful ! What a trip through the North states. Loved it! Horses everywhere love it! Alaska is awesome! Glacier Gardens Alaska would of been nice to see. Nice live eagle nest cam there!

❤ Excellent production.
An excellent coverage of your trip of 8,000 miles. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it to everyone wanting to know more about how people live and work, that is far far away from large and overcrowded cities.
What a brilliant and amazing journey......
Really loved the part about North Dakota where Frank and his brother were doing their part in trying to save the last of the Native Americans Horses. We need more people to get involved in ensuring that the Breed of the Horses survive. Because like other animals that have become extinct. Once their gone their gone. Can they be put on the species list to protect them from becoming extinct?
Truly amazing video. Equally amazing living spirits of all those people's who live in those places.
It's an amazing documentary, thanks a bunch.
Enjoyed watching this beautiful & very interesting journey you undertook…
Many thanks from Australia 🦘🦘

Two thumbs up !
Fantastic film Klaus.
Thank you, that was very interesting!
Very beautiful, superb
I love Alaska.... it's true nice place n mountain 🏔️
the folks "visited" on this journey, are the people i remember this country being made of!......the "can do's" people.....the figuring it out as you go if that's what you have to do people....the ones who do right because it's the right thing to do---people.....they don't ask "why me?" they ask "why not me?" and play the hand that's dealt......might take a bit longer BUT----good stuff, when it all comes together.....i remember......GREAT trip!!! i enjoyed very much and learned even more.
Greeting from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 Beautiful vlogs. Thanks for sharing
Nice Canada Goose Jacket you're wearing. Times must be good to afford a $1000 plus jacket.
I really wish you would record this trip during the late spring/summer.
Good documentary, well done
So courageous people! Great job!
Very educational
♥️ From Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
I liked the documentary however, I feel the narrator calling hunters "gun freaks" around the 54 minute mark was unnecessary. There is no reason to put that in there only to offend the outdoor type of people that are more willing to watch this kind of documentary.
Thank you, i love documentary!!
Thank you for letting us know! Take care Matheus.
You guys just skipped over Lake Superior? lol. Well, I guess Lake Superior and the other great lakes would be a whole documentary in itself. I really enjoyed this, following the journey, meeting the locals, conservationists, workers, etc.

OH, I love the baldy standing next to Frank on his right. I grew up on a cattle ranch in California (Clovis). A fascinating documentary.
Thanks for the info..👍
Lovely video
I would love to live there
Amazing documentary of a 8000 mile border with all of the variation of land, people and beauty. I grew up on the Canadian side of that border and now live on the American side of that border. The similarities are so interesting. Two countries, United together with the greatest freedom in the world.
4:00 The narrator's statement regarding lobster size is inaccurate. There are minimum AND maximum sizes for lobster. A legal lobster in Maine waters is between 3.5 inches and 5 inches. Lobsters under 3.5" must be throw back, and lobsters over 5" must be thrown back (measured from the eye socket to the length of the back).
great!
Iverson is a GEM Yes we need American Made God Bless him!
Great place great people !!
Wonderful program.
That snow shoe maker is 💯 correct
My dog an I could definitely have a comfortable life there. We love the cold, the snow, and eat more fish than anyone else we know.
Nome is not pronounced noe-mee, the O is long and the E is silent and it is one syllable, not two. Alaska is called the Last Frontier not the Final Wilderness
ประทับใจมาก
This is wonderful! Thank you for sharing!

yessss
👌👉📌❤️🇨🇦✅👍✔️ what a great and wonderful journey. Loved seeing it.⛏️
Nice production and love the people up there in Monhegan and all the other stops along the way. The correspondent on the other hand seems to make the subjects of the questions uncomfortable for some reason. The way he asks the questions or something---- feels condescending by their reactions.
I have a tough benchmark---Charles Kuralt----he traveled the country especially rural---- and people always responded so warmly to him no matter his question because they could feel his genuine respect and interest in them and the unique way they lived...never felt they were being judged. Sorry I am judging the correspondent/interviewer but just had to be honest.
People of all races also, live in Alaska. 🤗
Superb.greetings from India
Right back at you from Anchorage Alaska
