Having listened to more than 15 interpretations of the same composition, by only the world’s best tenors, this is my conclusion that it is just Jonas in this one which is the most unbeatable and top notch, in terms of the overall mood, tones, highs and lows, with the most delicate handling of various parts, but still maintaining the same somber note from start till the end.

I am always amazed by his Italian: simply perfect. If I didn't know that he is a foreigner, I would say that he is Italian. I listened to other songs by him in Italian, and sometimes I heard his German accent. In this case, nothing: perfect Italian, no smudges.

@@marianmatei1138 Dear Marian, I wanted to tell you that now I understand what the problem was! I've researched the song, and the scene from the film. It's a very beautiful theme by Rota (my own favourite is Il Gattopardo) but he isn't a songwriter, and an American put words to it, which are lovely but have nothing to do with the story. These words have been wrongly translated, very badly indeed - I wouldn't sing them! But the original words were in Sicilian dialect, and it was called "Brucia la terra". It's a scene of enormous sadness. Here is a good translation I've found for you. Now I can share your love for this song!
