    I totally thought that upon hearing the phone needs charging, they were excited because they could use that as an example of death and the lack of permanence.

      All times exist today from a relative vantage point of observation inside the physical universe of entropy. IOW Socrates walking into the tribunal exists and is current from a selected vantage point...that you don't currently occupy.
      Similarly if a wave or the curve of a road keeps you from seeing a boat or a tree...that doesn't mean it is gone.

      Yeah same. My parents were super blunt about it. Honestly it made the concept of death a lot less scary having them just be like "yeah, we're gonna die. And so are you. Everything dies eventually."

    I honestly don't remember having a single serious topic conversation with my parents when growing up. I think in high school they asked if I was taking Sex Ed and once I said yes never said another word about it.
    Nowadays I've seen these extremely close families where the kid tells their parents every single thing, including their dating life and high school gossip. Has that always been a thing? It sounds extremely uncomfortable.

    Why is it that I have no recollection of anyone telling me anything when I was younger? I also don't remember my first album I bought or first kiss. It all just merges together.

    Learned about death when I was three. I was never allowed to believe in Santa Clause yet I got my picture on Santa’s lap and told him what I wanted for Christmas for several years. My family cultivated cognitive dissonance and unspoken truths.
