Everyone needs a Helen at a Party 😂 that’s all I got to say this week. Love it 😂
Agreed - life and soul that girl.
Exactly she's brilliant fun .
I'm 76 and I've seen such a drastic change in this once proud city . Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights Up Town in the late sixties and seventies were great . Meet in Old Red Lion then up and down West St. Every pub packed out and everybody seemed to know each other . When the pubs shut there was the night clubs Penny Farthing, Cavendish and others I can't remember now . Out of there at 2 am then Greasy Gordons for a bacon sandwich and walk back home to Handsworth. Sheffield was a great City then . wonderful memories .
Hi both, we are both elderly and turn up outside of local pub with our own booze on our mobility scooters and we buy just one drink in pub, I'm mid 70's and mrs is in her 80's 😊. Take care, Paul & Lyn.
Thank you!
I moved away from Sheffield in 1997 because I could see the writing on the wall. Even so, I'm shocked at its appearance today and I have to use satnav to find my way around when I visit my son. Most of it looks like the middle east now, after a good shoot up. I remember what a great city it was in the 50s and 60s. The present city is an alien impostor.
I agree, the city centre looks very different these days
Used to go to the beer kellers in Manchester in the 70s and catch the all night bus back from Piccadilly to Sale, then walk the last mile home alone. These days you can feel your anxiety building up whenever you read all the terrible news that's affecting our country, and abroad. Still yours and Helen's antics give us some relief!
Thanks, glad you like
I'm 34 and things have changed drastically even from when I started going out when I was in my teens. Most of the pubs I frequented have gone. Very sad, and I think its only going to get worse for the industry before it gets better.....IF it gets better. Not only is there the cost of living crisis but lock down changed a lot of people for the worse I think. People seem to be waaaaaayy less social.
Yes, its very sad
Indeed.. nobody sees their mates any more etc. I'm trying to make sure I see people more than before now.
Hey mate Gaz here from Scotland .. we spoke before.. your so right .. completely depressing here in Edinburgh too.. everyone is so angry.. pretty boring.. hope when Edinburgh festivals starts it changes things a bit.. I miss the 90s I lived for the weekend … everyone is going crazy at the min.. this war is depressing
True mate, hope you're well
@@bythecurb you too mate really happy for you and the misses .. you guys are suited very well.. me and my misses feel the same .. I am a joiner she a paramedic.. we try get to music festivals.. you guys should go and try some .. we off to transmit festival on Saturday our first year anniversary.. take care mate
The festival has turned into a wokefest .
Liverpool's still great for a night on the pop James...
loads of bars and proper arle boozers 👍
Another great video James and Helen . Sadly most of our big towns and cities have had the heart and soul ripped out of them .They are no longer pleasant places to spend time in and as you rightly said at the end , way too many shady characters around !
Planners and Councils have NO clue what makes towns n cities actually function ... twats.
Entertaining as ever,keep em coming
You & Helen are always a joy to watch, you make everything fun !
Thank you
Inflation is caused by increasing the currency, we printed 400 billion to lock down
Out of fresh air ! All we use are promisery notes. When will people wake up to how our system works. We are literally slaves.
SCAMDEMC beano chickens are coming home to roost
Spot on 👍 The printers went brrr and prices went 🚀
Great video as always!! 2p on the bus…. Helen isn’t that old is she!!!! 😂 your right about city centre’s…. I’ve lived in a few different places over the years, Worcester is the nearest one to me these days. I remember finishing on the building sites a 3pm on a Friday living for the weekend as you said!! Those days are well and truly gone ….Smithy
Yep, it's really sad mate
In regards to the wretched state of Sheffield and the country in general, it's interesting to know that what we see happening was written down two thousand years ago, and everybody missed it. I've been studying Scripture for nearly 14 years and I can see events unfolding as described before my very eyes. We are living in the last days, where the governments turn on the people and the people turn on each other. A division is taking place and now the sheep and the goats are being revealed, as the final battle of Armaggedon approaches. Personally, I was quite shocked to discover some people of my acquaintance turned out to be goats. These will eventually be taken off into destruction. We know that this is the end because of a number of signs that haven't ever been seen before, and a strange and menacing atmosphere that has gripped the entire inhabited earth, for the first time in man's history. We should all pray for Armaggedon to come quickly.
£9 for a pint?? 😯😳🤬😱 Christ on a bike!
In my youth I used to have a night out on a fiver because half a lager was 50p 😮
I wonder if it’s just a reflection of being older. I was a real party animal in my late teens and early twenties, out all the time, pubs and clubs. Now that seems like the last thing I’d want to do. I noticed that the vast majority of the people who seemed to be around the city centre there were students.
Me too, I used to go out Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday!! That would be impossible now
And a lot of alcies..
Think you two are great together and love the pub crawls.
Did exactly that. The weekend was for getting spannered the week day was for work. Friday night was the getup and let’s go. Saturday well was where ever you ended up.
Now I’m in my early fifties it’s no pubs hardly at all and a goos session with the wife in the garden with music maybe.
Cant beat it on a lovely sunny evening
You never fail to make us laugh. 😂
I came on a bus last week , my case is being heard next week! 😉
You two are just a joy to watch! Love the videos 😁
😊 thank you
I'm from the isle of man and the night life over now mate is totally non existent. Years ago like you say you live for weekend, and the 80/90s/ even into early 2000s music was unforgettable, night clubs were packed and so many people up on bar ready to order. Over here we have lost some of our best ever night clubs, and only one or 2 you'd go in, then their bars and a couple in the town, pints and spirits so very expensive. We've just had TT, biggest motorbike festival in world, prices everywhere and stuff to buy now just gone up so so much. Cheers for the video m8, love B52s, love shack on the juke box, Helen dances well and looks like you both enjoy having a good time, I'm Jamie 43 and it's nice to meet you both :)
Nice to meet you too Jamie, Helen has a close friend who lives on the Isle of Man and she loves it there.
@@bythecurb I love it here very much. It's just though like any where else, prices have gone right up. It's a beautiful island
I'm from Nottingham, I'm 59 and from around 1982 through till around 2010 me and my mate Kev always had a lads night out almost every Friday and some Saturdays in Nottingham city centre. The stories I could tell of those times! Best years of my life and I miss those nights out SOOOOOOO much, and you know what, I can't really remember how and why we stopped doing it, it just sort of fizzled out, and then, bang, it was over. Sometimes it seems like those nights out were decades ago and sometimes it seems like just last week. I used to love getting on the dancefloor, tapping up the birds (or trying to!) all the banter with the other lads we'd meet up with, sometimes getting lucky, but mostly it was home alone after a visit to the chippy....I just want it all back, but alas that can never be.
Sounds like a great time. Have you heard the song 'Friday night, Saturday morning' by the specials?
Yes, I know it well, what a great song and how true to life it is!
Absolutely brilliant. You are 100% right the prices are unreal now. No wonder supermarkets are selling so much booze, its the only way people can afford to have a drink.
I would stick to the pubs in Scarborough, they are all still reasonable prices and you cannot beat a good atmosphere. We are trying to get a few days booked in August but the prices of B&B or premier inn & travel lodge are through the roof. Have a great week❤❤
Thank you, you too. You can't go wrong in Scarborough
James everything you said about the city centres is 100% spot on, its depressing watching everything we enjoyed back in the day is rapidly disappearing before our very eyes! I also have a young daughter and I worry every time she goes out, as if parenting isn't scary enough! Love Helen, she's the life and soul and an absolute stunner! Only just discovered your chanel and I'm addicted, your so down to Earth, I'm born n bred Yorkshire from Leeds and living in Harrogate. New subscriber here so please keep em coming. Love and peace ❤ ✌
Thanks for subscribing mate, glad you like the videos 😊
I am over in the US . Atlanta Georgia in the 70-80s had bars and pubs and party hardy. Less these days and sad these places can not stand with time . Good post and love the old buildings hope to visit soon . ❤️✌️
Helen you're great! Love your happy enthusiasm to bring to the grumpy git 😂
The world is changing dramatically.
It is!! And not for the better!
When I was in my teens we where out 7 days a week. Now once in a blue moon. If we go away in van we go out and have a few. Yes this cheered me up no end lol
Guys your videos are great. I'm living in Ireland last 22 years but from Middleton Manchester and families in Oakworth and Ramsbottom and around there am moving back in April next year. My kids are old enough to make the decision to come back with or stay as am divorced but it's nice to see what I'm going to come back to.
Just come back from Liverpool Sunday till Tuesday never been before me and wife another couple if you like entertainment you will love it's like going back to 80s Cheap drinks people so friendly went out about 230 till 12 loved it
Excellent video👍
Hi james loved the blog , originally I'm from North Devon Barnstaple yeah Barnstaple we always used to ho for a pub crawl ,but we live now between Sunderland and Durham ,we dont go out on a night now not tbe same .awe enjoy dayss away to see different places ,we are off to cleethorps on sunday and Monday so looking forward to that ,love your blogs ange
Thanks Ange, we loved Cleethorpes, some really nice pubs
Mer
Merry Xmas mate to you and her.
We're from Newcastle and I remember in the 80's going out with pals every Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday nights. Every pub and club were heaving. Great times and safe too.
Those were the days. I remember going out in Sheffield in the early 90's and it was the place to be 😁
Me and the missus went to Sheffield just before the lockdowns and I couldn't believe for a 'big' city how deserted it was for a Friday and a Saturday night. Yeah it was quite depressing and nowt like it was 30 years ago when Sheffield was buzzing. We used to celebrate our anniversaries going on staycations where we'd kick the arse out of two nights drinking and eating out but not nowadays, we're lucky to do one night of drinking and another having a takeaway and sitting in.
It's really sad how downhill our towns and cities have gone
I went out either Friday or Saturday with a friend we went to Wetherspoons absolutely heaving in there so after we went round pubs they were almost empty and the cost wow no wonder they were all in Wetherspoons. I live in Bath.
I remember 2p bus fares, used go out to lodge moor on the 51 from bottom of east bank road and walk down wyming brook then down rivelin valley to hillsbrough and get a bus back to town and another one home. All for 6 pence!!
I think the city centre is dying due to a combination of the cost of living crisis, expensive business rates and the clean air zone scam. Sheffield definitely used to be busier. That being said the city centre isn't the best place to go out in Sheffield. Kelham Island, Abbydale road & Ecclesall road have some great bars with more people and a better atmosphere.
My nearest town Bangor in North Wales is a ghost town now. Pubs and shops boarded up. Early 90s were the best years for a Friday and Saturday night.
We had a jolly boys outing in Conwy a couple of years ago and that were brilliant. Definitely going back there one day🏴🍻
Hi
Nostalgic video and just shows how times and circumstances have changed over the recent years….liked when you mentioned guys in the Rutland & 70s era
I used to meet my first girlfriend at the fishtank in the hole in the road mid seventies
Now live in Nottingham having lived in Sheffield & Barnsley on
I do remember I used to be a lot fitter in those days actually taking part in what was known as the Barnsley Six like a cross country race on steroids especially going up Mill Hill
Thank you for your video and the chance for me to be a little nostalgic
Granville
Another great vlog guys
Glad you enjoyed it
I moved out of London last year to the midlands , best decision I ever made , stay out the cities
Absolutely
It’s never depressing with Helen about 😂😂💃🏽 she so reminds me of myself lol
Good video James 👍🍺
Mine was Coventry. Was busy from Thursday (when people got paid cash in s brown paper envelope) until Sunday. Everyone was out those four days. Its dead now
Your great at putting music to your videos. Yes, I feel for you parents who have to worry about what happens when the kids become teenagers and want to go out on the town, I would be so worried about their safety. I am on the road and just visited a place I use to live and I could hardly recognize it and the place I lived in is now gone. Enjoyed seeing you and Helen having a fun night out, you seem to make the best of whatever is going on around you.
Thank you, times have really changed
Great vlog as always very entertaining.
Thanks
Thanks for that, Sheffield looks a bit sad now Walshe's now Poundland, Cathedral Sq hidden by trams (that were removed back in the 60s). A Friday night out started at the Muckey Duck (Black Swan) on Snig Hill and ended at the Fiesta Club (usually cost less than a tenner.) I left in the 70s don't think I will be going back, but great video.
Hi J and H my god the memories the fun I used to have in The Rutland yes very pricey these days you need a mortgage to go out well come to Chesterfield some nice pubs there fantastic entertainment from you both stay safe look forward to the next one❤❤❤
Really like the Rutland arms
really enjoyed that one James.. I couldn't but notice the litter on the streets.. its the opposite here, you tend to pick up litter if you see any on the streets.. amazing that its just over the water from England and the world is a different place! ATB buddy.. TC 👍🙏
Thanks Kenny. Littering is one of my biggest hates
Another great video. Everything has changed since the late 70's & early eighties, when I travelled from Worksop to Sheffield for a special affordable night out for the average working person. Can anyone remember the Pig & Whistle and their special promotional ale, ROGER & OUT. You were only allowed 3 half pints, the first half pint came with a certificate, the second half came with a certificate with spelling mistakes, the third certificate was all blurred. Happy days I think ?.
Haha yes I remember drinking Roger & Out in the Pig & Whistle!! 😂
The Head of Steam pub. Newcastle based company. They specialise in calling all their pubs The Head of Steam. You would have seen one in Tynemouth. Fun fact. 🤔👍
Ey up cracking video again folks, Si Thi
What ever happened too our spit and sawdust pubs!!! All the excitement of going out on a Friday night with mates, drinking and having fun and then going out too a club and dancing all the blues away!!! Where has all our old beautiful communities gone??? Sooooooo sad, it really is. I live in Brighton and it’s busy but not like the community feel when I was younger! Thank you James. I really enjoyed it and Helen what a fun down too earth pretty girl! Xxx.
We love proper old fashioned pubs, there are still a few left but they are hard to find. Everyone these days seem to prefer trendy theme pubs 😕
Eyup you two..Ya just getting older James ...every generation disapproves royaly ...keep up the good content...love it
People just don't go out our days no wonder them prices we go to supermarket get our cans ,enjoyed your video thankyou
Thank you!
I can remember the 2 pence bus ticket and still have one from year's ago.
Im not going to the party unless Helen" s There 😅 Great Vid Mate 🤘
The price of everything is just so depressing James. Makes me wonder how it will all end 🏴
Ayup lad, So true about Sheffield. It's my home town, born and bred but what a crap hole it is now. Could tell you was on a edge and I don't blame you. No place for your gorgeous lass.
Hi James, Im from Derby, never been the best night out down Derby town but now its horrendous ... terrible place to go... notts is the nearest best place to go out near Derby but im too old for that lark now buddy ... anyway, great to see Helen enjoying herself with ya buddy, keep smiling and see yas soooooooooon....... Alec
Cheers Alec, Ive been out in Nottingham but it was a long time ago!
It's the same here in New Zealand, depressing. Keep smiling 😃.
Great vid as always mate. 🍻You walked past the Crucible and never mentioned it.
Sorry!! 🙄
80s and 90s and before, it was all about the pub scene, great crack and it brought people together ❤ them prices m8 are shocking, I'm surprised that they get anyone in, shame it's all gone wrong for one of our national treasures ❤
Another good blog 😊
Thank you! 😊
This country is finished. The Vlogs are great, you’ve inspired me to get a van
Thank you good luck
James I used to love going out in 70,s and 80;s in Sheffield, crazy daisy, Limit, Marples, Blue Bell on high street never any trouble great times
Happy days 😊
I remember it being 2p in Sheff back in the day 😊
If you would have carried on further down the rd from the Rutland you would have come to the Lord Nelson on Arundel st, a great little pub.
Oh god James & Helen , the 90s were amazing to go out! I’m from staffordshire and now all the towns around me all the clubs have closed. I relate when u said about your kids I’ve got 4 kids. 2 are in their 20s and the other 2 are teenagers. Where will they go? I feel sorry for them. Not like when we were young. Lisa ❤
Shout out for my daughter kaitlan 23 Got her own pub in Warwick called the unicorn. Disco /club music/kareoke at weekends and great food. Take Helen there James she’ll let u park your van on the car park. X
Thank you Lisa x
@@bythecurbno problem at all I’ve already told her about you two. Incase u want to go. She’ll look after ya. And get the party started Helen. Kaitlan will love ya xxx sending love Lisa xx ❤
I'm not much of a drinker these days but I can relate to what you said about Sheffield when it was rammed, especially at the weekends. It seems now there are no working men's clubs where you could have a good evenings entertainment and a good cheap pint and pubs had to compete with them.
I love Working mens clubs
A working men’s club or a British Legion club was a cracking night out. Cheap beer, a game of bingo and a turn or two 😀
Just found you two on here , and your Triffic !!!... You remind us of ' Us ' ...lmao 🤣...subbed ...keep on keeping on both ..❤
Thank you, and thanks for the sub :-)
Hi both. Cheers mate and you
Yes, the war has added to the cost of living. Most people forget that the government are taxing the hell out of us just now to pay back the covid debt. We were told after the restrictions were lifted that we need to pay back the debt. The reason we are paying back so much now is so our kids don't have to pay for it. Rant over! Great video, very entertaining!!
In somerset where we are its about £4 a pint, and £ 5.50 for a glass of wine 🍷 . Love your and helens adventures 😊
£15 for 2 drinks that is daylight robbery..Love the videos.. Have fun you guys
Thank you
Used to do 7 nights a week and 2 dinner times in the 70s and 80s don't bother any more drink at home and love it
“When was the last time you came on a bus? Was it with me?” 😬🤣🤣
Whats funny is when you guys go travelling every bar you go in is packed. Head to a city and it looked sad.
Great vlog as per usual.
Thats a cracking music licence site your on. Even though YT took a few days to catch up.
Give me the link as I do live streams and I desperately need to cheer my audience up.
It's called Likd. Not a bad site to be fair
@@bythecurb Thanks buddy
Good video! Thank you.
If there is a jukebox and a load of rockers in, try a Dean Martin (like... little old wine drinker) :)
Smartphones and narcissism has created a virtual reality, no soul or community left anymore to fuel the city centres. Love the channel northerner in Australia ❤
I’m originally from Doncaster. It was always a crap hole, but now …. Oh my days!! It’s truly awful. I now live at the coast such a massive difference.
I second this. Grew up in london but family all from Mexborough & Sheffield, and coming back up here it has changed hugely. Odd as from the outside Rotherham & Barnsley gets a lot of stick/bad reputation (despite good parts) and Doncaster is seen as on the up becoming a city, but my word, going to Doncaster now is asking for trouble.
Yep we still go to Doncaster on a Saturday afternoon to do some shopping sometimes and it is the biggest shithole ever. I lived there in my teenage years with my cousin and went round Donny on a night for a drink. Not a chance now, no way would i even enter Doncaster after dark
@@janepennock6933 I grew up in the worst part, Hyde park. As a kid you’d have to dude step prostitutes in the back gunnel plying their trade, and step over passed out addicts. All as as s preteen on the way to the shops.
I was bullied and beaten daily at school and had to learn to fend for myself if you know what I mean. I took up martial arts and went on to teach martial arts in Hyde Park too.
@@scottlawson1800 yup, eyes down, did my make eye contact, don’t talk unless spoken to. Yet hold your ground and do t be a push over.
@@micro_adVANtures that explains a lot, I sometimes would go to the Asda near lakeside/the dome for fuel or food after coming up at night, which is near hyde park i think, and was pulled over by the police a good 4/5 times to check the car I was driving was my own as it is registered where I live in middlesex and not in doncaster. Never a good sign. then a few other times there were hooligans or boy racers about aggressively. As @Janepennock said, I avoid doncaster at night at all costs now, absolute dump. and it was always in doncaster, never at the asda/petrol stations in asda rotherham, or barnsley if I came up the M1 way. As you said, keep you eyes down and avoid trouble even in london, but I wouldn't want to grow up in doncaster now that is for sure
Stones Bitter I've got a headache just looking at it lol.😂😂🍺🤙
I lived in Sheffield from 1992 to 1998. There was a bar called Berlins that was 50p any drink on Tuesdays.
Remember it well
I went to Sheffield to see bad manners early 80s and the bus fare was fixed at 5p. Anywhere in the city.
what a great couple you are x
Thanks
Catching up on your videos as I have been away in France and don't have much date for roaming now :( I know what you mean about Sheffield being depressing nowadays, I am from Sheffield but lived in Donny for over 30 years now and trust me thats not much better! Can remember going to Town on a Friday night with the girls and we had a great route for the pubs and used to catch the last bus home from Pond Street after pegging it through the hole in the road - those were the days !
Happy memories. Hope you had a great time in France 😊
Seems the smaller and more colourful the can, the more pricey the beer. Makes me weep for the days of John Smiths on at a pound a pint. Good night out for a fiver. That was the early 90’s which only feels like 10 years ago.
The stout was extortionate but it did taste quite good
Tbf, you were definitely in the quiter parts. When you got off the bus should have carried on walking alongside the main road to West Street and Devonshire green. Fantastic bars and always busy on Friday nights. Bierkeller, West Street Live, Tiger Works, Mollie Mallons, beehive, Maida Vale, Walkabout, Cavendish, FirePit, Olivia Townhouse, Bronkos, Slug and lettuce, one four one bar, Revolution. I could go on and on. It's definitely worth another trip in the future
Aye up, me faves are back, see thee
Both so cool Helen keeps you in gear meaning she is the boss ur both great
15.50! Good God alive! Even he would say bread only tonight people forget the bloody wine! 😃😃
Leeds: been going 'to town' for years (and years). It's been 'gentrified' over that time - but for the better. Still love going there for drinks/a meal - seems to have something for everyone ..... even old gets like me and him indoors🙄
😅 Yr helen entertaining no wonder you love her x must say wen u said 9pound a pint I nearly choked on me coffee 🙃.. 80s 90s an early 2000 were brilliant pub times I live in a town called bideford in Devon they used to have the most pubs per square mile in uk .. but once smoking ban and prices went up an we all got a bit older the wknd pub crawls died out and majority of pubs now closed down here so sad .. was good to socialize and have bit of fun good good times 😊.. looking forward to Yr next vlogs etc m7sic good for the soul and helps people connect. brilliant love to see you both .. and love to u both.... see thee ❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Helen, can get any party started I'm from Nottingham think it's about the same if you go Monday club you can get a pint for just over £2 .
Love it ,great fun youse to have , used to love Sheff,in 80.s n 90,s ,great people as well,if u ever get to Monkey hanger land ,youse will love the pubs n prices ,youse need to have a look in famous Small crafts club all my Yorkshire tightwad pals love it 🎉😂😂😂xx
Sounds like the place to be!! 😂
Me and my partner used to go to the pub on a Saturday night in London, in the early 90s, with a tenner between us and squeezed 3 pints each out of that! 🤪 And the pubs would be rammed. How times have changed.
Yep. It's very sad
You must try Barnsley Town Centre. Its buzzing at the moment especially with the new Glassworks!
I do get into taan quite often, will do a night out vlog from there soon
@@bythecurb Can't wait to see that one!
Hi Mike from southend on sea we use to have loads of clubs for dancing probably 8 in town discos but most have disappeared people would come from miles away at weekend now only a couple left and highstreet full of homeless beggars but they are clearing them now so getting better only saw one during visit a week ago
Make sure you keep using cash to pay for your drinks, if they only accept card then please leave and go else where. …. if you think things are bad now, just wait until they try removing your freedom completely with Central Bank Digital Currency.
