I've loved Jackie Ross for many years (best-known for her biggest hit, "Selfish One", which peaked at #4 on the national R&B charts and just missed the Top 10 (peaking at #11 on the Hot 100 in August of 1964), but had no idea she was still making fantastic records like this beauty from 1973-74.
Linda Jones sits at the top of tree, her vocal range is beyond compare. Your Precious Love and I Just Can't Live My Life (without you babe) are two of my favourites.
Yea, but I found L Jones a little bit one dimensional, ie, she didn't stray to much away from those octaves , which were great, but limited her scope and variety . I love NANCY WILSON and LOLLEATA HOLLOWAY, JEAN CARN, PHYLISS HYMAN, BARBARA MASON, MILLIE JACKSON, GLADYS KNIGHT, MELBA MOORE and ARETHA. They had a fantastic vocal range, MELBA MOORES 1970s footage of some operatic caberat number dumbfounded me, compared to the KASHIF inspired FUNK albums of the early 80, OMG. And every one knows how versatile Nancy Wilson is , similar to DIANNE REEVES. My fav , LOLLEATA HOLLOWAY, Daaaaaaaaaaayaaaaaaamn. But also, the number of LPs is always a good indicator, longevity. And Linda didn't have that many at all, compared to the babes I mentioned above.
