Celtics Form The Big 3 | The Superteam That Changed The Game

  • The Boston Celtics entered the summer of 2007 unrecognizable to generations of basketball fans who once knew the team as the NBA's mean, green, machine. By the end of July, however, executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge had pulled off two blockbuster trades for two future Hall of Famers to partner with the team's homegrown star.
Just like that, the Celtics - and Big Threes - were back, and NBA-team building would never be the same.

They were all early 30s by the time they were together so they didn't have a huge window for success. They were also a bit unlucky, in their second year together kg was out injured and in the last two years of the five a younger big 3 all in their primes was formed. Not too mention in the 2010 finals they were winning in game 7 but in the last quarter the officials were super biased towards the lakers. Every time they touched a laker they got called but the same contact wasn't being called on the other side of the court. That would have been 2 championships and their legacy would be seen as much better.

If you go back and check the box score, they got out rebounded by like 20 rebounds in game 7 (the one game KP missed) KG being out in 2009 made a huge difference in their ability to make it back. I get going down the "what if" path is useless, but its pretty fair to say they would have made it back to the Finals in 2009 if KG was healthy. 2 Finals for a team that got together in their early 30s isnt so bad in my opinion. Brought Boston a Championship after like 20 years and gave us some legendary moments. They underachieved in terms of championships but they were also the reason Lebron left Cleveland, and they changed the NBA forever. Still one of the best and most impactful teams in NBA history imo.

This Celtics team would’ve won 3 straight or at least back to back if KG doesn’t get hurt in the 2009 season. They broke the 96 Bulls record for best record by Christmas Day at 27-2. ONLY LOST TWO GAMES THATS INSANE. (Record was broken by 73-9 warriors at 27-1) Then KG goes down and their championship hopes with him. And he was never quite the same after that injury. So THANK YOU for acknowledging it was Boston who really ushered in the new era of BIG 3’s. Lebron just furthered it into an era of player empowerment.

When I first saw the title to this video, I was going to kill it as more media type BS. Then as the video played they mentioned the past Celtics team and their great players.
That Celtics team made a trade to get the rights to Larry Bird and traded picks to get Robert Parish and a draft pick used to get Kevin McHale. They made trades for Dennis Johnson too. So, teams in the past made moves to get super teams.
Hell the 76ers made a trade for Mosses Malone and that year won the Championship. The Lakers traded to get Kareem Abdul Jabar and made moves trades to get the rights to draft Magic Johnson. Those two stars and the drafting of James Worth made them a Super team. If you didn't have a Super team back then you were not winning a Championship. Again, that is why the 76ers traded for Moses Malone.
Superstar players playing with each other is nothing new. The media was just looking for a reason to bash LeBron James.

So the wave of star players taking matters into their own hands by teaming up was set in motion by the 2008 Celtics? A team that had three stars? One who had already been there for his entire career. A second who was acquired via trade and had to be convinced to leave his former team. Garnett has also said before that if he was going to leave Minnesota his first choice would've been to go to Phoenix, btw. Then a third star who was also acquired via trade and had done no string pulling or made no power moves to get to Boston. THAT'S what set in motion the era of player empowerment in which has lead to guys demanding trades with up to four years left on their contract? That has players not only demanding a trade, but demanding to be traded to a specific team? Okay. If you say so.

You clearly dont know anything about basketball if you think KG jumped on a super team lol. First off, spent a hell of a long time debating whether he should leave the Wolves. He wanted to win there, its the reason he stayed way longer than he should have. Dude was loyal to the bone, but Minny was rebuilding and hadnt even made the playoffs in the last couple years. He was getting older and Mchale wanted to do good by him and send him somewhere he could win. So no, he didnt jump anywhere, especially considering he was fucking traded.....wasnt a free agency decision like KD. Boston had just got Ray Allen but before that they were a 20 win team. It wasnt like he was gonig to a 73-9 team. He played in the league for 12 years up to that point and never made it past the Conf. Finals (1 time) and had spent majority of his career not making the playoffs, so yeah you can imagine hed be pretty fucking exciting and happy after winning a ring finally. You strike me as a Warriors bandwagon fan. Ironically youre the one whoes cringy af considering youre so salty and bothered by one of the most iconic moments in NBA history. Literally everyone was happy for KG in that moment, cuz if you watched basketball before that, youd know how much he wanted to win and so much of the NBA community was happy to finally see him reach the top after putting so mcuh blood sweat and tears into the process up to that point. The fact that you cant appreciate a moment like that makes me feel bad for you. Im a Celtics fan and seeing Steph cry after winning his Finals MVP made me feel happy for him. You miss out on legendary moments by being salty and not appreciating the moments for what they are. Did you even watch the video or did you jump down here because youre salty before you even watched?

@@Amm17ar wow someone is a bit sensitive. Brother if you think he didn’t jump on a super team you don’t know anything about basketball. You can dress it up anyway you want. I don’t care if he was traded. I don’t care how many games they won the year before. KG left the Wolves and his new team was in every sense of the word, a super team. And I’m an OKC fan in case you’re interested not Golden State. Not that the team I follow has anything to do with the absolute fact that KG joined a super team. Because he did. 100% 👍

@@Amm17ar dude get off your high horse ffs 😂 anyone who tells another fan that they don’t watch basketball are so in love with their own opinion and think they know so much more than everyone that it blinds them from the fact that they actually know very little 😂 so stop humiliating yourself with that shit dude it’s embarrassing to watch.

People are vastly overrating that partnership. They were all on the decline and Pierce was never even that good to begin with. That Miami team was stacked with three legit franchise players entering their prime.
