Kenya's Debt Hole: The country at the brink of bankruptcy

  • Kenya's public debt has hit an alarming high of Sh11 trillion. Out of this, President William Ruto's government has contributed Sh2.4 trillion in just 15 months. And now, 7 out of Kenya's 10 shillings budgeted has to go towards debt repayment. How did we get here? How do we get out of this debt hole?

We should have a national conversation about this country and how to save ourselves: control wastage by ruto and his govt officials, abolish foreign travels, abolish nominated mps and mcas, stop duplication of roles and more. Can ruto administration manage this?

President Richard Nixon back in 1971....every shilling is borrowed into existence....we live in a debt economy....in the US its 32 trillion. Countries have to go into debt since money has been an IOU since Nixon. Then the money goes into social welfare programs like building roads....free wifi....free maternity. Debt used well can change a countries fortunes like Norway... they prospect for oil ,invest in electric cars, increase revenue. Its not a debt problem ..its how the money is used that's the problem

Most Kenyans annoyance with high taxes and excessive borrowing is that we know that money will not go to good use. It will be squandered and embezzled. It will not benefit us in the least. There’s a difference between borrowing money to open a profitable business and borrowing in order to throw a party.

Kibaki, like Ruto, borrowed like there is no tomorrow. He found our debt at less than 500 billion shillings and he left it at almost 3 trillion shillings.

Step 3. Any parastatals that are not turning a profit, SHUT THEM DOWN.

Step 5. Stop government war on private schools and hospitals, let free education be guaranteed to all kids in Kenya irrespective of school. If the parent wants to go to a private school they make up the difference.

It is forcing Kenyans to think more critically and get more alerted as to what is going on in government because they realize that the government and the people are not separate entities, you play around with one today you both pay the price tomorrow. The generic bckground music is not only defeaning but drowning vital public information.
Making debt comparissons with evolved foreign economies is but deflectionarry and unlike these nations, Kenyas abbysmal civic proficiency in the masses and a sophisticated class of conniving elite oligarcy, now bending the lightbeams in efforts of deceit is only viewed by the general public as a mode of sophistication since no meaningful accountability oversight mechanism is available.
Lack of law enforcement is also another glaring issue. Kenya gravely needs an independent economic crime department of the police tasked with conducting forensic investigations of economic nature at all levels as opposed to less powerful and influencial auditors currently present in various departments including the treassury.

When citizens of one African nation look over the border to see whats going on, to compare - they are proud and chauvinistic about how “developed” they are versus their neighbor. How do they mock their neighbor? On Twitter, in newspapers and even on television at their podiums of power. Based on infrastructure! The opium of the masses. We have better roads, trains, our skyline is full of tall buildings, our President flies a better plane than your’s does.
We speak better French. We speak better English. It would seem that our fluency in English hasn’t helped us define the word “sustainable”.
It’s defined as: the ability to be sustained at a certain rate or level.
The worlds bankers are merciless. They give you enough rope to hang yourself. And then they turn around and sing that old song if you remember it, in Swahili, if you can translate for yourself:
    Shauri Yako!

Mr. Wanjigi is only raising facts that the debt script doesn't add up while a fool is drawn to the fact of his entrepreneurial inclinations. Can a fool draw himself/ herself into where all this borrowing and taxation is going to. Ruto borrowed 15 B months ago and out of it, he invested 15B in State House renovation at a time Counties hadnt received funds to pay staffs and other essential services were stalling. Was that a priority? Wake up or remain in fools dens or you may be chorusing from a drinking den after 100sh bribe, betraying your generation and those to come

This is the foolishness that got this nation in the current mess. They couldn't differentiate lies from facts were busy chorusing hustler& wheelbarrow. Individuals have become fools enough not to interpret or infur message. Someone sees SGR instead of questioning where he lies financially in the prevailing messed up economy. Probably he has no job for most companies are either closing or relocating. Whether Mr. Wanjigi has SGR contract or not, he is an enterprenuer and winning contracts is their mandate. What is of concern to kenya is where scandals and looting affects their financial status. The way Ruto borrowed 15B from IMF and withdrew out of it 2B to renovate State House while Counties had not paid their staffs due to Treasury delaying their salaries for over 2 months. What was a priority MR or you are still obsessed with Mr. Wanjigi rather than your Chief Hustler oppressing you and wasting the nation? Wake up or reduce yourself to wheelbarrow.

  • @frekve
    @frekve Před 6 měsíci

The problem is not the amount of debt. Most of the wealthiest nations in the world got much higher debt compared to GPD. As Japan who got 255%.
Or Singapore, that's ranked as the richest country in the world and has 168%.
    USA got 99%.
While Kenya is at only 62%.
So the debt is clearly not the problem.
The problem is not even Kenyas income or GPD, which is among the better in Africa.
The whole problem is how Kenyas income and handling of the debt is done.
How finances "mysteriously" disappear from they are created and until they are supposed to be used to pay debt.
And that's the problem Ruto should look at.
I suggest he starts that process by using a mirror.
