2007 Honda Accord , sedan, sunroof ,same exact problem. Thanks for solving it. 😊💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🙏🏼🇺🇸
Nice fix Kenny, I know it’s a 16 min video but can imagine it was a 4 hour repair job between disassembly and running to the parts store to customization of the coupling. Definitely an informative video. Gotta say this is why your subscription rate keeps growing!
I've never thought that holes in the roof of your car are a good idea. I guess this proves me right. Keep the good stuff coming Kenny.
I would have never found that disconnected hose without this video. Thank you so much!
You are a excellent mechanical, troubleshooter, teacher. Plus you are very professional and you don't say raw language. I hope you get tons of subscribers . Keep it up !!
Your repair is great. You could have clamped a whole new tube on the end and pulled it through. just a thought. Thanks for the tips.
I learned something new, great vid.
Thank you kind Sir! Been wonder where the hell the water's been coming from and this is probably it
I’ve got the harbor freight version of that flaring tool. It worked well enough to make flares in copper lines for compression fittings. I haven’t done anything else with it though. For the one time I used it, was worth the money.
What most people don't realize is that a sunroof is the biggest mistake you can make in a vehicle
Yes, a pass in the ideal vehicle. I never use mine.
The best fix for a sun roof is a tube of silicone and un plug the motor 👍👍👍
@@stevenkerwin4041 Ditto!
As nice as they are to have on a nice day, you're absolutely right
Ive had a sunroof/moon on all my vehicles for the last 30+ years. Knock on wood. Ive yet to have any issues ever. Actually have a 2006 Accord w/ interior just like the one in the video. Appreciate the fix if ever needed.
Great job! I hate sunroofs.
Oh how I don't miss those repairs. I used to install aftermarket sunroofs that you had to run drains tubes in a car that was built not to have drains, also serviced every make and model with factory sunroofs. We always would run a new drain if they had shrunk just to keep from having issues later on, I believe we used a flexible clear PVC tubing. To clear clogs we would remove it from the roof and use air pressure then check with water before reinstall.
I immediately said to myself if you've got that far in pulling the tube down to made up. With the other two that you would have no problems in figuring out how to get the top TubeMate. Another excellent video I've learned so much from you. Keep up the good work. I could see why you are successful in your shop. Now the big job for me is to figure out why my is leaking in my car.
Thank you for the excellent fix, very helpful and nicely done. 🤖
The 2005 Buick LeSabre model has on the rear drain tubes where they come out on either side of the trunk a situation where the ends of the tubes are sort of pinched on the ends for whatever reason that really restricts flow. I just trimmed the ends so there were no restrictions and no issues since. While I was there, I pulled the entire upper headrest. put small clamps on possible failure points. I also re-glued the headliner, as this is a common issue. Thanks Kenny ..Pete
Believe it or not you’re the only one I got subscribed. I love those videos. Keep wrenching, Kenny.
This happened to my coworker last week after big rain, flooded his passenger side of his Chevy HHR. It also happened to me; tubes were plugged on my 2007 Audi A4 years ago. Easy fix but leaves a mess. Not many folks know about this, it should be a maintenance item every 6 months or so to keep them free of dirt and make sure that they are still attached.
Experience is a good teacher, Ingenuity made the fix possible. Good job Kenny
That was a very informative video, Kenny. Thank you!
I would have thought heater core. I never would have figured that out.
Kenny, You Truly Have A Gift ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Kenny very awesome info on this car repair thank you
When I saw the video title I was expecting an issue with an a/c drain. 2nd Gen Dodge Rams have an issue with those drains clogging because they come out at the bottom of the firewall and pickup road grime. The fix is to add an 8-12 inch 1/2 tube that drops down instead of facing forward. Actually picks up less debris because of the change of the angle and has the added benefit of being easily cleaned.
That..was a great fix.. no doubt a PITA to do..since being a contortionist is a prerequisite to getting up there. Well done my man..!!
I've seen the windshield water well plug up as well draining the water in to the heater then the floor , leaves find there way in there.
Awesome job sir!👍🏽
Had know idea about the drains on sunroofs. Thanks for a very informative video Kenny.
Excellent video Kenny. More often than not people have problems with a sunroof. Seals, motor or tracking. This is very good info. Good work.
You'd think they would shoot for a waterproof sunroof and put the drains as a back up😁I've run into this on a jeep and it was always parked with it open under a tree. Clogged up quick! Thanks Kenny for the tips 😁 wondered the same when I saw the clear plastic tube
They need to just do away with sunroofs period. I have had a couple of cars with them and I can't ever remember using them. If we could get them to take away bells and whistles we don't use, maybe they could sell cars a little cheaper.
@@jthonn yeah , I don't like them. Just something not needed that will cause issues later on. Something else to break😁
Accidentally left my sunroof slightly open at an angle. Smelled a scent when I opened the car again. Checked everywhere and noticed a bit of water on the passenger floor. Now I gotta find where it’s leaking.
Those drains get disconnected because people blow out the drains with an air gun and blow the drain lines off. That is exactly what caused the leaks in my daughter's car. Dirt plugs the drain and the air gun can literally split the lines.
Thanks for revealing that. I was going to check mine and would have tried to blow it out if my drain hose is plugged. Now to figure out the easiest way to clean the drain without causing damage. Sure would've loved a tip how best to clear it.😊
Amateur Tip: Weed whacking line works well to clean out clogged drains.
Your good..
Kenny a nifty trick I learned from another youtuber to unblock a small diameter tube is to take a guitar string like wire, stick one end of the wire in the chuck of a cordless drill put the wire in tube and spin the wire in the tube using the drill ...
It will act like one of those spin-a-ma-things sink or bath tub drain un blocking tools
Thanks for the tech tip. Keep wrenching 🔧
Love watching ur videos, ur a good mechanic thanks for the videos
I had a Tahoe with leaks from ceiling that had a sun roof, I kept trying to seal top, now I know better. Thank you. I hope you put clamps on splice as well.
Congratulations on an excellent automotive channel!
Excellent fix.
Great video. My car has a leak in the rear. Need to figure out how to access the rear drains...:(
I took my car to a sunroof centre they replaced the whole tube and it was not expensive and it didn’t cost much either
I'm glad that worked out for you. Thanks for watching & leaving a comment. Keep wrenching 🔧 Kenny
Nice fix Kenny.
Good job! Your video helps. What size is the original hose? I did the drivers side some years ago.
Great troubleshooting you're as sharp as a tack
Just picked up a '97 Accord. Buddy owned it for many years. Hit a deer. Still drivable. Will either be pulling the dent or replacing the fender and hood. Good cars!
I don't remember if it has a sunroof..
As part of the service VW used to put the car on the ramp and unplug the drain holes from below without having to detach anything in the plenum chamber.
Repaired my sunroofs over the years and glad I do not do it anymore,I only worked on factory units and refused to work on aftermarket.
Kenny, great info and it helped me with my daughter's 2011 Accord but I have a question. How did you get the a-piller (if that's how you spell it) cover off? We have air bags there and I'm afraid to remove it (if I can).
I have sunroof ,but not by choice on the last 2 vehicles, & if this happens I'll know what to look for.Keep up the good work Kenny!🙂
I have a sunroof (not by choice!) but I will be proactive and check if the drain tubes are connected/clogged. Great video!
This is my exact problem. I’m going to take this video to the Honda Mechanic or the auto body shop. Where are you located?
Thank s
ive seen that also and done the same but it pulled off the roof side good to know about that connector in the bottom ive been using that block and press one from lisle on the flare tool
I had a 2006 ford freestyle, now I know why the passenger side floor was standing in water when it rained LOL!! Had no idea about the drains!!
I bet I have the same issue with my Civic
Thanks for this video om new to your channel. My ? Is if if you cant get this fixed can you just plug the hole in the sunroof so water won't go down? I have this same problem now..😢
Hey, good morning Kenny. This was a great job and video. What happens if the drain tubes are connected but the drain tube is clogged? I have 2 cars doing that from tree debris. Is there a way to unclog the drains. I also can not find the rear drains on my 2009 Pontiac Vibe and have just about taken the entire car apart to locate the tubes as a result think that if I can find the exit end that I might be able to blow air backwards through the drain tubes. I would love your comments to the viewers for that. Thank you Kenny.
Thanks i didnt know all that and i had a leaky one and traided it off because of that
My 08 tl type s has an air bag in the a pillar but I see my hose runs inside the frame so it’s dripping water inside the car but not a ton and I already flushed it and blew with compressed air, used the smoke machine to see if the hose is disconnected and I used my bore scoop camera to follow the tube and I can’t see anything so maybe mine is the trim on the roof.
Accords have 2 computers in the front passenger footwell that are prone to water invasion, shorting, and rust, causing automatic transmission and other problems. Thanks for the tough-to-shoot video. Does the lower fender tube simply join via a friction fitting? Didn't see how you "stretched" that segment. Thanks again.
Did you get a check engine light when you put back? I did after I put the plugs back.
Many years ago when I worked at Honda and Acura dealerships in the Seattle area one of the most hated jobs I could get were sunroof leaks. You knew your service writer hated you if you kept getting those jobs. The rear drains are even more fun. You gotta be some kind of masochist to own a car with a sunroof in Seattle.
Convertibles and sun roofs are the worst cars to buy unless you drive them only on dry days and nights and don't plan on washing them. However, my mom's 2003 Chevy Impala LS had hard nylon tubing for the sun roof drains which seemed to work better than Hondas soft flexible tubing.
I think the manufacturer should have made the tube a little longer so it can shrink overtime but not shrink too the point it disconnects itself
You can put it so people understand it. The vehicle has rain gutters because some of these people are just a knowledgeable about everything if the phone can’t think for if somebody else can’t think for them don’t know what this new generation I don’t know. And these new, so call green technicians they need to watch this guy because he will teach him something you can’t throw parts at a vehicle. They will learn how to diagnose a vehicle. I can go on and on about this but there’s a lot of people that don’t know how to read the scanner the data side they think that code is the problem no point shoot in the direction you need to diagnose it
Would it be possible to put the tubes together and seal them together with two layers of shrink tubing ? Chance of an obstruction is less.
Holy Crap 12:05
Happy Easter Kenny from Sydney Australia.
Didn't want you to lift the carpet and apply rust prevention treatment to the floor pan?🇭🇲🐣
Any vehicle that I've ever bought with a sunroof, I make sure not to touch the darn thing. I also tell everyone else not the open it. After having one get stuck open I simply leave them closed! They are just something else to fail! Some people won't own a car without a sunroof, I don't understand why?
Honda sure screwed up on that design, probably not the only one either.
Almost every manufacturer has had an issue with that at one point or another
I''ll be doing this soon here with my 2000 Accord as well. Any insight on if the rear drain tubes have a similar design or do they just run the tube as a single piece down the rear pillars and out under the car?
👍
Plumbing with Kenny
😎👍😎
well it never goes according to the plan ha ha
Well that's the truth!
What if it doesn’t have a sunroof.? My pillar on Driver side is wet. On 2009 ex sedan.
Heater core? 2 problems.
used silicone for the fixing
Number 1 reason to avoid cars with sun roofs.
Why not just chase the old line with a new line instead of adding a restriction to the flow?
If you are worried about it snagging, a small section of wooden dowel inside the old and new line and a few staples or glue should make a strong connection between the replacement and old tube, then just push/pull it down by grabbing the bottom end with your pliers while you feed from the top.
Looking good. Shave. Haircut and manicure your good for another month 😊
What brand is the junk flaring tool
I'd disable the sunroof motor in the closed position and silicone it shut. More hassle than they're worth.
Also please explain what exactly is wrong with those flaring tools.
What I learned from this video is I'm not gonna work on sunroofs
Plastic pex male to male would probably work just as well.
Time to be a plumber piece of wire on a drill or air nozzle
@ 14:18 whenever you are removing the headliner, be careful not to kink it or put a seam in it, as to not ruin the appearance of the headliner. But dont worry at all about getting your greasy fingerprints all over it like he did around 7 to 8 minutes in.
Not a fan of sunroofs? Friends 1999 Blazer sunroof was broken by his son monkeying around with it? They can cost thousands to repair? We just RTV'd the glass sealed? The Honda is a pretty stupid design? They use a copper tube, then a rubber band hose that shrinks and disconnects, conveniently, right above the CPU and main fuse panel and wiring? Stupid engineering, but it will make the structure rust prematurely, as if Honda's don't already rust bad as it is? Got a bad taste in my mouth, when my father bought a 79' Civic Wagon? My friend sat on the hood, and caved the whole hood down to the engine, and we were just kids? All cars have their faults, right? Good job, Kenny. Happy Easter.
Well there you have it folks general consensus saaays juuunk. Never fails the more creature comforts that are installed be it factory or aftermarket leads to more problems than you could possibly imagine junk i tell you junk hahahaha 🤬💩🤣😂😅🤑🤑
Cheap PVC tube, shrinks and hardens with age. Not suitable basically....🤔🙄😳🇬🇧
Been there done that they are all fucking like that, no matter the cost of the car
