Here are the 10 reasons why the narcissist baits us:
1: They're restless and in need of stimulation (4:44)
2: They're emotionally dysregulated so they create conflicts and chaos (5:00)
3: They're creating a smoke screen to make you look like the abuser (5:10)
4: They make you look bad in front of others as grounds for future smear campaign (5:31)
5: They set up a fight for their escape (5:55)
6: They need supply (e.g. attention, energy...) (6:11)
7: They need to provoke you to join their temper tantrum (6:43)
8: when they need resources, they provoke your feelings of guilt and obligation (7:10)
9: They bait to gain power, control and dominance (7:27)
10: They bait you to keep you confused (7:56)

Once I learned about NPD in a boss, I could predict her actions, and baiting me was one common one. I didn't fall for it. She wanted to point out a reaction to others that I wouldn't give her. Going no contact in my job wasn't an option. It was an awful few years but I almost think it was so important for me to have that experience because now I recognize the tactics much sooner, and I stay well away from narcs. I try to educate others, too, about their tactics, to show how predictable their behavior is, and how others can avoid becoming a victim of these bullies with thin skin.

I agree with that, I think it was important to go through. I feel grateful to the evil people who have hurt me, because their abuses taught me a lot about themselves, others & myself. I know I have to change my gullible trusting nature, ring-fence myself & impose boundaries, as they will never change their abusive behaviour. I knew, for a very long time, that my "father" is a selfish, dictatorial, egotistic, superior & dominant t*at, but I didn't realise how pathological his need for power & control is until I googled "why does my father see my sticking up for myself as disrespectful behaviour"? I found out that it's because he is a grade-A narcissist. Everything I read made sense about him & made sense finally out of my childhood. That also led me to finally understand an ex who abused me in every way you can imagine bar thumping me. I knew, that how he had treated me for 7 years was wrong, but I'd put it solely down to "mummy issues". I was wrong. He is a narc, because of his equally self-absorbed narc mother's base behaviour. But my "father" was not abused, he was spoiled. He was by his parents loved, adored, worshipped even, he was praised, encouraged, supported - he needed & wanted for naught. He was privately educated on my Grandpa's pensions. Somebody showed him how to be an entitled bigot. Someone showed him the benefits of being so nasty to those he perceives as weak, fair game. This terminology & the details of the motives behind narcissistic abuse also explained the behaviour & motives of a former manager. The only difference in that is, I had the last laugh - when I left having been unable to take any more of being played assorted games with (the last straw was her, in winter, having facilities put the air-con on, above my desk every day). Soon, all of the project managers & the ops director, the compliance officer too, discovered how much of the output of the department came from & was supported by me. They found her to be a manager that couldn't manage, that wasn't managing. My old shift buddy rang me & in whispering giggles (his cubicle was the other side of hers) told me of her ineptitude, which not to me or he, but to many in our department had come as a surprise. He told me also of her inability to grasp a single function that I had diligently performed. While she had taken credit for all my work, she had paid no attention to how I did it, she couldn't even make sense of the process & procedure manuals I had built & used to implement departmental training with. I had to put my hand over the mouthpiece, because I didn't want to deafen Dave with my uproarious cackling. Her first day I had to show her how to attach an Excel spreadsheet to an email. It didn't get much better, she had to be shown multiple times how to do things, after which she couldn't retain it & had to ask me again. With my "father", I have no hope of having the last laugh. I've not seen/ spoken to him in nearly a year, but he's still of course laughing at my expense. Every rude, disrespectful, gaslighting/ manipulative text he sends, he knows, without even witnessing a reaction, how it has affected me. He's been using my own vulnerable mind against me all my life. I say again, I am though grateful to these monsters for their cruelty, it has wiped my eyes & I can spot one at 10 paces now, so, like you, I stay well away. If I fall victim again, it will be my own stupid fault.

I am currently in no contact at work with top 2 managers.
I gave the powers that be a quick lesson on cluster B.
Life can get very surreal on the job, in romance, friendship...; name it!
Ironically, I always respond in paraphrased lyrics...
My favorite response to narcissistic attacks is.... don't piss on my head and tell me it's raining...
Last narco I dated I called, "Slick "
When she asked why I replied, "cuz I keep falling for you..."
I guess what I am saying as the only son of a violent narco mom is.... Absurdity directed at a narc really throws em for a loop.
I once asked my mom in 76, "why you always look like you sucking lemons 🍋?"
It was worth the ruckus ...
      YMMV

Hi there, you're so right, generally you only find resources for dealing with a male narc. There are male empaths too, just as vulnerable to being abused, narc abuse is just as damaging to men. There are a lot of people that don't understand how there could be men that are being abused by narc women, but I know it goes on because of my ex-friend. I now think that all the behaviour she was smearing her ex for, was designed & instigated by her, to discredit, destabilise, dement & destroy him. She controlled, guilt-tripped & manipulated me for 3 lost years, so I know she is more than capable of it. You're doing the best you can, having an audit trail of any/ all communication. I'm doing the same with my narc "father" & his 2nd wife. Lise & her videos are such a valuable resource for men, as much as for us women & that can only be a good thing. I'm really sad to think of how hard it is for you to co-parent with her. My mother had a job on her hands dealing with her monstrous ex/ my "father". It was tough on us kids. I think you already remind yours that you will always be there for them & how much you love them. One day they'll be all grown up & it will be easier. I hope that you are having a good day today, feeling strong & happy, I hope that the sun shines on you perpetually. One:LOVE.

These videos talk about narcissists where it is a known fact, but how can someone tell an actual narcissist from someone who might just have some issues or narcissistic-like styles? Don't some people falsely accuse others of being narcissistic, creating a feedback loop, i.e. making someone take on avoidant attachment tactics?

They don't always want a response and this can spark them off - if they're prodding at me i just leave, or if its a partner just listen and replay what they're saying in pure logical form but always grant them validation and respect even in a row, otherwise we're just as bad in effect. Make a game of it but don't condescend - show them step by step, over and over and over again. If they remember the outcome the next day, they will never forget it.

You have to realise that you cannot win with these people. Even if they 'lose' they will still say they have won anyway. You have to see how pathetic and pitiful they really are as life is just a game of survival for them and they never experience love, trust, faith or any deep human emotions, they can only do surface and survival and that is it. Be grateful that you are not like them and let them 'win' their silly little game for babies and get on with your life. Winning over narcissists is basically ignoring them and getting on with your life, they are not worth it.

There is healthy narcissism and unhealthy when a person has an actual disorder. We all possess a healthy dose of narcissism for our self-esteem, I think that should be clear to all listeners who maybe lack self-esteem and self-worth and don't have their personal boundaries aligned. People with no boundaries will be taken advantage of by those who may or may not be on the spectrum, that happens because we live in an individualistic society where everyone is only concerned with themselves. However, you can protect yourself by establishing healthy boundaries and not allowing others to use you, no matter who they are. Learn to say no and stop being a people pleaser.

Do not back down from demons do not back down do not walk away unless it gets ridiculously violence are out of hand then you should just get in your car and split and when she's gone or he's gone pack your s*** and get out or pack her s*** and get her out change the locks on the doors throw the clothes in the driveway and leave there's nothing she or he can do

I've not seen any & I would be interested too. I had to bang my head off a tree, twice, because the first one wasn't enough, to stop myself punching my "father" in the throat. He had been baiting me all day with nasty comments, about me, other family members & complete strangers all day, making racist comments, insulting & infantilising me personally. I'm not a violent person, I just wanted him to shut up. I knew if I punched him in the mouth he would just keep verbally abusing me. When he still wouldn't stop attacking me with his nasty mouth, I pulled the hair out from the sides of my head in temper & frustration - he laughed in my face. That's the last time I laid eyes on him nearly a year ago. I know now, that if I had have hurt him back physically for his mental & emotional torture, if he survived it, he would have taken great pleasure in smearing me to literally everybody & assassinating my usually calm & peaceful character as vicious. If he had died, his narc 2nd wife would have been delighted to do the same. It's too easy to say & very difficult to practice, but reacting to them is just what they want; don't give them any more of your heart, mind & soul, they will bleed it dry then laugh in your face. One:LOVE.

Narc ex was the most unimaginative & selfish "lover" I ever had the misfortune to be in the orbit of. He was all about himself & his own pleasure. Anything I wanted was set in the margin. So I don't agree it's great in the beginning, it was most awful towards the end & the triangulated bint (I only know about her, had been going on from a year after I was in the 7-year relationship with him until past the end, there could be others), she has agreed to marry & is SO welcome to him. He knows the difference between sex & love-making, but when you are incapable of love, it can only be called sex. He will only ever be a selfish narc sex-pest. I had to submit whenever he demanded, yet, if I attempted to initiate, I was being clingy.

I have a hypothetical question. The scenario is: a person watching NPD videos determines their partner NPD, BPD, etc. Once reviewed they build an arsenal survive, manage, or control the partner. When in reality the partner is not any of the attached disorders. The subject individual has misdiagnosed their partner and treating them under the falsehood. Furthermore the individual is not suffering from any of the disorders themselves. Do you have an answer for the scenario? Thank you for any input.
