    One of my favorite things in life still - singing ENCYCLOPEDIA!! Thank you, Jiminy Cricket and Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Club Show, for telling me about the reference books that I used on every report that I ever wrote in school. There was the basic, World Book, and the advanced, the Encyclopedia Britanica. And then the more obscure, like Collier's. And all of this knowledge was instantly available - after getting one of your parents to drive you to (and wait in) the not-so-nearby library where you could browse the card catalog for your topic, head to the reference book shelves , pull out the applicable heavy volume(s), take them back to your table, write one note per index card (don't drop the box!!! ), get the bibliography info, put the volume(s) back in the RIGHT place on the shelves, and repeat the process until closing time because you could NOT check out reference books and encyclopedias were generally too expensive for many families to buy for the house. I was lucky enough to win a set of Britanica in a spelling bee in 1967. They will always be with me.

    • @fromthesidelines
      @fromthesidelines Před 4 lety +1

      Well, Kellogg's sponsored "THE WOODY WOODPECKER SHOW", "HUCKLEBERRY HOUND", "QUICK DRAW McGRAW" and "YOGI BEAR" in first-run syndication in the late 1950's and early 1960's. part of their arrangement was for the "stars" to appear in Kellogg's commercials, pitching various cereals {Woody specialized in Rice Krispies, Huck promoted Corn Flakes, Yogi also shilled for Corn Flakes {and his own OK's cereal}, and Quick Draw endorsed Sugar Smacks [and Rice Krispies on occasion]}. In the case of Bugs Bunny, General Foods [Post cereals, Tang] had previously sponsored his prime-time ABC show, and continued to use him to sell Kool-Aid through the 1960's.

      It was a sales film {"1967 B.A. (Busch Advertising)"}, screened *ONLY* at a special meeting of the Busch sales force- and their distributors- in the fall of 1966. Several commercials for Busch Beer's 1967 ad campaign ["When you're due for a beer- BUSCH DOES IT!"] were previewed, and the "game plan" for promoting Busch to the average beer drinker in those ads were also discussed.
