The real-life model for terrifying horror movie psychos like Leatherface, Buffalo Bill, and Norman Bates was a man named Ed Gein, whose actual exploits were even more shocking than the movie plots they inspired. Who was this man and what did he do that made so many filmmakers fictionalize his story over the years? Listen, if you dare…

I spent 6 month together with fundamentalist Christians and they where insane, they really hated everyone outside church, they didn't say it straight out, but talking to them i realized they hade a lot of violent thoughts about people with different views. And during that time one person tried to leave, but wasn't aloud to. He got so distressed he ended up killing an innocent women and he is now i jail.

Every town has an “Ed” or the equivalent of. Like a creepy guy who literally loved his mom to death and has some weird obsession with “helping people”. I remember when I was a little kid we would always run into this one guy who was an “armature photographer” and he would be at all of our town’s little league, soccer, softball, basketball, etc...games, swim meets. You name it, if there were kids there, he would be right there. Anyway, I always said to my mom “I don’t like that man.” And I wasn’t the only kid who didn’t like him. When I was in my early 20’s, his stepdaughter, 3 nieces and around 18 other kids came forward to accuse him of sexual assault/rape/molestation. It was INSANE. He was arrested, his wife was arrested, he had HUNDREDS of video tapes that he had made with these kids. It was a massive scandal in our town and he’s serving a life term and his wife is serving 19 years. But as a kid, I KNEW there was something off about him. His wife was an agoraphobic but was the one who filmed the acts. Gross, gross, gross. Keep your kids safe. If they say they don’t feel right about someone, believe them!

Bernice was my great great aunt. I always like learning about what made him the way he was. My great grandpa didn’t like talking about what happened to her so I’ve had to piece together everything on my own. Thank you for taking the time and researching. It’s so important to know the history and psychology of these monsters.

This take on ed gein, throughout his life is such an interesting story. I agree that maybe even with his mental issues, he couldve had a completely different life if his mom did not treat him so horribly as a child. I hate feeling bad for him because his victims deserve respect, but its always so interesting to hear how they were raised and the tramas that turned them into that monster. Its something we will never understand and a big reason why it is so fascinating to us.

I am sure I am in the minority camp, but I have to say, as far as serial killers go, Ed Gein is by far, the nicest one. To me he has always seemed to be a slow witted, uneducated, simple man who didn’t want to harm anyone, he just wanted to make his suit. If he had lived in a bigger city with more dead bodies to choose from, he probably wouldn’t have killed anyone. His life is a sad tale because of how his mother shaped him and the poor man never had a chance at a normal life.

You said La Cross right, I am in Milwaukee and have been in love with your podcasts for months now but this video I was reluctant to watch because Ed Gein gave me nightmares. I am usually not afraid of serial killers but something about him terrifies me. I also find it strange to know that Jeffery Dahmuer lived in my city and I have stood where he once stood. It is just creepy but Ed Gein is a whole different story. My parents remember Jeffery’s capture and my grandma remembers Ed Gein because she lived in the same area as him.

Watching this I found myself saying "At least Dahmer and Nilsen had some kind of reasoning for keeping body parts of their victims", and that's not a sentence I ever thought I'd find myself saying.
Like of course Dahmer and Nilsen were some of the worst of the worst, but fucking hell this is just creepy as all fuck. They obviously had way more victims since most of Ed's were already dead, but it's a different type of insanity that's just really unsettling and disturbing
