FINALLY some disasters waiting to kill my run!
Exactly. The game being to easy if you disregard roleplaying even a little bit is its biggest flaw. Now we need famines/natural disasters ideally interacting in a unholy trinity of grief with both diseases and warfare.
I hope Eccentric characters can hold a funeral for themselves while their still alive.
Oh yeah that is some Curb Your Enthusiasm sh*t
@@davidcohen4518And Futurama sh*t.
@@krissuyx And Red Vs Blue sh*t.
That red bar to indicate reading time makes me just as nervous as catching the bubonic plague
Yeah I caught myself staring at it instead of listening lmao
I've been waiting so long for funerals and I'd hope we eventually get like a "Widowing period" where you don't just immediately remarry but have a period of morning.
Unless you have like the callous trait or something similar.
Well, the stress you get is already the penalty for having a close one dying
Adding a widowing period wouldn't be realistic. In medieval ages, nobles could remarry like days after losing their wives to keep their alliances
*mourning?
@@_alexdez8053 true but medieval people probably didnt marry directly out of choice but rather pragmatism, thus a mourning trait should still be done but maybe would affect the relationship you have with the new bride, rather than giving you even more stress.
@@user-vv9jx6zi4h Nope, surely morning. On the evening a New wife already :)
was busy staring at the map as OneProudBavarian was reading through the Dev Diary
It contains the real disease: The Mongols
Dsching- Dsching- Dschingis Khan~
8:12 that is one of the biggest Mongol empires I’ve seen. The fact they took out the Byzantines is wild. They even made it to Sweden at 11:43 before splintering following the death of the Khan. I’ve also never seen that many smaller Khanates appear after the Mongol empire splits on succession-usually it’s like 4 empires tops but this looks 5-6
@@micahpickus5142 yeah
I really hope they lift the "family only" restriction for funerals. I want to be able to honor my knights or vassals that meant a lot for my character. I get that it is tied to stress loss and legitimacy (maybe add a different intent that isn't tied to player power) but it would really hurt RP to restrict it so much.
If they don't, I'm sure someone can mod in a cultural tenet or religious doctrine or something that allows you to hold funerals for knights/vassals/members of court with a title
The 'Pharaoh Islands' achievement isn't actually that weird. The Leabhar Gábhála Éireann, probably first written around the 10th century or earlier in Ireland, claims that the Irish come, by way of Noah, from Greece, Scythia, and Egypt, and medieval Irish kings were very big on tying themselves to the Milesians, who were the Irish settlers who were once literally (according to the book) Egyptian Pharaohs.
We wuz kangs (Scottish accent)
It’s also just a play on words on how the Faroe Islands are pronounced in english.
It’s also just a play on words on how the Faroe Islands are pronounced in english.
Allegedly the Celtic tests weee in contact with Egyptian priest
Something not in the main dev diary but I found interesting: in the comments a developer confirmed that the funeral "burial" types are a new set of doctrines for religions, which give different bonuses during funerals. Sky Burials is no longer a tenet but been converted into a funeral doctrine. Unfortunately no unique ritual cannibalism funeral doctrine (yet)!
A more fleshed out version ''The Reaper's Due''. Nice.
The idea that a character in the 867 start date invents that he is a descendant of the Pharaohs(or any other ancient ruler title/dynasty), uses that to make himself seem more important, is alone pretty cool. But pairing that with "Legendary Adventures" and the so on. Imagine a descendant of that character 200-300 years later in game time, actually believing their family story, and setting out on an adventure to "reclaim their ancient right". That is such a great hook for a campaign and to mix up your own gameplay.
but it's already in the game, it's called the great holy war. and 200 years in, it is already 1070, which means you need to give up your +300 gold counties to do that. and well using legendary adventures lets you keep your 200k gold instead of having to send gifts 1k times so it's a bit better than holy war i guess.
I feel like this dlc would have been a perfect place to add coronation events. Where your legitimacy would decrease the longer it is put off. And you could increase your legitimacy by spending money on a lavish event where you could establish legitimacy by having foreign kings come witness your crowning moment. Maybe next time 😅
Would be nice if funerals had an impact on the spread of myths/legends. For example you could give them a grand funeral by either burying them on death, or re burying them later on. A funeral so grand it could only have been done for someone incredibly special.
I like the idea of funerals getting a buff when held in a temple as those are usually not player owned holdings, suddenly there is a new mechanical reason to have a fancy cathedral in your realm for things such as funerals (and maybe coronations in the future)
temple is already overpowered af for all the stupid stones you put there.
Death rites have always been a huge part of a culture and it's really cool they are adding funerals I look forward to further such additions
Technically the dancing plague event has been in the game since Royal Court.
Thats a pretty good Mongol Empire by the AI
the whole time I was like "this is the most competent Mongol Empire I think Ive seen in CK3"
It didn't show, but I wonder what funerals would look like for your rulers and not just the family members (as shown). You'd think there would be bigger, state funerals held for rulers that have just died and paid for by the new ruler who just inherited the realm. A state funeral could be a very realistic money sink and dynasty-prestige honey pot, if so.
This seems like the perfect update to improve the death screen. Tired of Gigalord "Conquerer of the Universe" Hyperdeath having his life summarized by his love of dinner
You go hunting one time in between winning 100 wars and that’s all your character is remembered for, every single time lmao
"The Pharaoh Islands" achievement sounds oddly familiar with the legend of Scota, Princess of Egypt
It’s a play on words on how the Faroe Islands are pronounced in english.
@@KittenCritters oh well same thing😞
@@Poland2077 It's both
Once again a cool feature in an update/DLC that makes me wish CK3 had a population system as the basis for its economy and armies. I know it would be absurdly complicated to get right and balanced but man, it just makes sense. Sinews if War tries and it’s good but also it hasn’t been updated in a minute.
I just hope they will also add better epitaphs with this occasion. I do not want the reunifier of the Roman Empire to be remembered for the one hunt he did when he was young.
the development decrease from diseases looks good to counter the dev stacking you can get, but I worry about diseases keeping areas that either the ai or non-min max players control in permanent 0 development, it could easily get overtuned
I would hope less developed counties get hit softer. While highly developed areas could fall to ruins
@@FrostbitexP
That is what they've said, yes. The higher the development, the harder you get hit.
at this point do you even need development when you can just do 10-destination tax grand tour every ten years. you will eventually have more than enough money to build workshops and stables, and what else do you need.
The Feroe islands are in Scotland = Pharoahs are from Egypt. Get it?
🤓🤓🤓🤓
The pharaoh islands are in Scotland
Ramzes is scottish confirmed?@@Costenyo
They are not now. Nor were it then.
Someone failed geogrophie
god I love them leveraging the detail of the map by showing the desolation
I’m glad they added Funerals. It seems very fitting
I agree with you that the game needed some disasters/diseases which could hamper the development and growth of your realm; its just too easy to build a stable realm once the first century or so has passed in game. Setting your steward on "increase development" will likely result in maxed out development long before the game ends.
Thanks for the heads-up on the new dev diary!!
With this coming, i hope there is a corresponding adjustment on stress gain from deaths to mitigate stress death chain. As it is, I am afraid that the stress will be more damaging than the actual plague once a couple of your family dies. Celibacy perk will only be stronger with the new nerfs, but it would be doubly so if compact families can better insulate you from stress.
Check Meka66's (CK3 Game Design) post (it is post #84) in the DD thread. There are some juicy pictures there. Namely: Stoic burial/Cremation/Mummification
Edit: I just realized that the "mummyfication" is by most definitions, not juicy.. and now my brain hates me
A word for that map in the background. One of the more realistic Mongol Empire simulations.
i hope having a pet cat reduces plague chance.
I'm interested in funerals the most. It will make the game feel more alive, ironically.
5:11 Hospices generate revenue?
What?
Could be a placeholder or it could just be income from people using the facilities and being charged
Why cure them, when you can treat them for a life time and bill them every step of the way! ^^
This is gonna be rough for agot players with all those big highly developed counties like kings landing, winterfell, the free cities etc
Those plagues will clearly destroy the "embrce celebaly" meta of only having 1 heir.
It will make the game WAY more difficould, and I kinda like it.
I know there are some historical sources the 'Pharaoh Islands' might be a reference to, but just throwing this out here... In the movie Highlander, Sean Connery plays an immortal 'Spaniard' who's secretly actually an Egyptian and personally, I like to think that this achievement is a reference to that. Playing a Scotsmen who makes the wild claim to actually be an Egyptian.
Soon the long wait for landless begins.
Funerals might honestly be the thing I'm looking forward to the most. Raising a runestone to an ancestor in CK2 always felt kind of special but this is far more involved.
What do you mean, Monday!? Already!? But we’re not ready! Shut the gate! Call the physician! Let us pray for our souls 😂
Yeah, this seems very good! I'm pumped.
Funerals were missing, but it's good that now it has all the base components to build a good Activity for it.
Learning has always been a dump-stat until you can get a really stable realm for a specially learned ruler, maybe with plagues this isn't as much of a dump-stat. Cuz all those who don't invest into it end up graved.
Hope there is a family crypt (and tower of silence, memorial urn, gravemound, or pyramid lol) Duchy Building or something. It is the least we can have!
I always thought weird how Wars don't drop the Development (if i'm misremembering, then it doesn't drop much).
Yeah, I was thinking about Trade too... Next Chapter we can hope. We have (imperial and clan) bureaucracy, travel, activities, vassal stances, plagues, and legends... the stage is being set.
I'm not really interested in trading goods, and micro-managing that, but dealing with Merchants and Towns. Character and Map based you know? Having nasty Venetians doing some financial imperialism, and like getting Hooks on the Pope and Kings.
Something tells me next Chapter will have War and Trade. We'll see.
Maybe after a siege we decide if we raze the city, leave 'em, or ask for something. Who knows, maybe we throw sick bodies into their walls with a Martial perk.
how is learning bad when your culture decides what buildings you can have which decides how much money you can make and how strong your army is.
Nice video
10:20 Here Radtislav daughter as passed away that is brutal... at the time that is standard, a tough thing sure but normal.
We tend to forget where we come from :
Before anti-biotics 1/5 children would die before 20.
Before mass sanitation 1/2 would die before 20.
Thanks modernity
Family crypts would be so very nice, yes.
With many options possible that could give different effects. Make it a separate building from the church? or have it be one of the transepts of the cathedral dedicated to the saint in the family? etc etc.
And what to do when your line changes religion?
This looks really good tbf
The update has made elevating the isle of Mann significantly harder.
Looks good!
It would be great to see you do another Role-playing playthrough after the DLC drops!
I'm so excited for this ❤
wow, this and unlanded gameplay will be lit
I wonder how warfare will be impacted by diseases. Is it smart to conquer an infected county? Can i use this mechanic for biological warfare etc.
I'm interested in if you can change your route when going on pilgrimage or other when there's plague event happened en route.
LOVE IT
I'm excited for the nurgle run, where you intentionally spread plagues to your enemies. Whether that'll be in the hane, possible through creative use of game mechanics, or have to be modfed in remains to seen.
You say that the map has been static since release, but didn't we get changes on the map in northern climes during winter with that early pack that gave us Viking adventures?
About this achievement with the pharaos is nown that the Scottish people come from egypt over the iberian peninsula .
Sweet. Im ready.
Damn the mongols doing a paint the map run
What content will and won’t be in the free patch?
Imagine if there gonna be a zombie Plague like from the game Blight Survival
Ohh big Georgia is rare, dawww it exploded
This guy looks like Paul Reubens
12:50 Wait what? You can?
What about vampires and zombies?
I do know people back then often feared vampires, zombies and other living dead XD
Imagine the fun you can have with fullbody diseases and the nudity function... :|
But... so far, so good. It looks like late game might be difficult to stay in power at the top since you're likely to end up falling back to the children of secondary marriages that might not have produced your dynasty as heirs once they moved out of your control. Unless you've got a way to control all your extended family of course, or you're Welsh/Irish...
Hopefully they've put something in place to stop us just marrying off diseased courtiers to get them out of your court. You should at least take some kind of prestige hit for it, or better get them sent back to you once it's discovered they're sick. So far I've managed to keep every infectious disease out of my court doing this since launch
Winterfell Crypts when
Black Death plague or solution to lag either way Im happy
Damn, this makes me want to wait more to play even better game later
Although I dread the final total price 😂
the thing is, I like the idea of it destroying me as long as it destroys everyone around me. I hate it when my character is unable to get daughters, instead gets 5-10 sons, meanwhile mr. Assface, the duke of Assex, just inherited 3 other duchies from his parents and only has 1 son, his son will have 1 son, his grandson will have 1 son etc etc. With this, maybe Ill die of the plague, but so will he and his infant child will inherit 4 duchies and will be overthrown hopefully.
Gee and here I was thinking they'd boost my development.
no way ilkhanate survived 😮😮😮
Too bad my realm usually collapses from rebellion within 200 or so years usually
I loved this video as always but I really dislike the red progress bar for each slide, I find it distracting and adds nothing of value to the video.
They still develop the game?
So the holy site will attract disease?😅😅
Sorry, what did you say? I was looking at your Mongol Empire.
"Sisesase will damage your development" *Laughs* *in* *tribal* *Turkish* (0 dev 4 life)
I would love to play it. But CK3 has been bugged since the last few updates. It always crashes after a handful of years. Read online others suffer from this same problem but none of the fixes work.
I've not had this problem, do you use mods? Either way it might be worth reinstalling everything from scratch.
@@jackthehat1093 no mods, done a full reinstall. Start a new game and I get the same problem. If I go back to an older version of the game via steam it works fine.
@hankrearden5460 I guess you are either on Linux or Mac and you are referring to the select character crash
@@SadL1337 no I'm on a Windows 10 build. A relatively new build as well. So it's not a horsepower problem. I have a 4090 so it can definitely run this game.
@arden5460 I see. So it is a different issue. (the issue I mentioned is a bug and has nothing to do with computing power either)
Although the plagues are an awesome addition to be getting I am a little worried about the Development decline especially for the underdeveloped counties in CK3. Hopefully they'll add some decisions, events or traits that can help gradually rebuild the infected provinces after the disease is gone.
This is going to make it harder and ultimately less fun to play in places with low development due to the risk of having all your hard work developing your lands destroyed by a plague that originated on the overside of the world.
But then again is historically accurate for plagues to be so deadly but i hope it isn't going to be too deadly to the point where only 2-4 people are expected to survive out of your family of 12.
Everyone claims the game is to easy and then complain when they make it harder 😂
@@hockeyethan15 its mainly because it could become too hard for AI to rebuild wouldn't make sense for paris to be 0 development because it got hit by back to back plagues or something like that the AI would fold to fast making the game easier for the player who can counter the development penalty with a strong steward
@@chianghighshrek Pretty much summed up most of what I was trying to say.
I know people always complain about how dissapointing the death screen sum ups are so hopefully funerals will help with that, instead of your god emperor randomly being known as a coward on death.
it would be great if they can add something like family tomb building in the church holding of the specific province which can give you piety and opinion with local bishop, it can be even pilgrimage option for your character and family
I’m not a disease fan but im glad some actually got what they wanted but where is the republics and heir focused dlcs ???
I think trade and Republics will be next chapter
Wait, you don't have to play iron man to get achievements?
So they are re-selling us Reapers Due.
We still don't really know what the dancing disease was.
I wonder if when the black plague hits (or any apocalyptic level plague) your holdings there's a possibility to entire towns/baronies to be erased as development keeps getting hit
Like let's say the plague sieges your town for 2/3 years straight the town you built and develop becomes just ruins
You know, sometimes I wonder if OPB is being honest with us
What do you mean by that?
Nothing wrong with being skeptical. Anyone who gets sponsored by the company they make reviews of shouldn't be given the benefit of the doubt that they are 100% honest.
Stay sceptical!
For what it's worth, I don't take sponsorships unless I like what I am specifically being sponsored for - it's why you don't see mobile game sponsorships and co on the channel.
Do keep in mind that this should not change anything about your skepticism however!
@@OneProudBavarian I appreciate that you understand the stance. I'm pretty quick to bounce if I think someone is being disingenuous. Just to be clear I think you've been fair in your assessments so far and you have good ideas about what you want from the game.
so what makes you say that
I wonder when will OPB ever be dishonest with us. 😜
I was SO annoyed with myself when I was editing this LMAO
@@OneProudBavarian It's one of your two trademarks, together with the alligator thing. :D LOL
Didn't they say that plague would be triggered by war, too? Like, diseases brought by the mass motion of people as armies march and refugees are displaced, and the outbreaks of disease in the crowded conditions of siege camps?
Did they just decide not to mention that in the diary, or did they scrap that plan over implementation difficulties? If the latter... well, it's a bit worrying when you think about how the travel system is so disconnected from war, with commanders just teleporting and MAA not actually counting as being where they're stationed. I hope war isn't going to remain a separate gamey fantasy system divorced from the historical roleplay...
We need navy in ck3 arghhh
Development decline is insane.
They’re going to need to redo ALL the ui.
Its a bit cramped now, especially if they add the plague stuff
This update ruined the game for me, happy to see all you people are loving the new plague inc game but because i cant turn off the stupide plague system in the options menu I'm probably gonna uninstall after 600+ hours of gameplay. I hate this update
this mf built like young sheldon
i dont like the idea of literal border gore. should only be a map mode
You can turn it off and make it map mode only. For me, im going to use mods to make it a bit less "intense"
nice video.. but this dlc is so sad.. why make the game easier and more of a click alot.. this dlc will loose alot of players..
Basic you just loose alot of members and maybe your ruler... I hope we can turn this stupid feature off..
You can turn the plague mechanic off in the option menu, have you watch the full video?
👎 game is ruined
great, plagues might become handy, since in 1300+ my family is waaay to big
