- The son of legendary bassist Chubby Jackson, Duffy Jackson is an artist with an impressive track record, who has worked alongside stars such as Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie (with whom he won a Grammy Award in 1990), and Ella Fitzgerald. His surprising sense of rhythm and his extraordinary technique have made him the heir to the great drummers of the past. He is also famous for his didactic activity with young musicians, through which he tries to pass on the basics of his work as an artist. At this year's edition of JazzAscona, he will be performing with the Michel Pastre Big Band and with the quintet made up of the Grasso brothers, Luigi and Pasquale, and of the young French saxophonist Nicolas Dary.
I am glad to see so many fans, thank you for supporting Duffy. I happen to be his nephew and seeing so many fans makes me very happy.
the great Duffy Jackson - thanks for sharing this!!
Just listen to the peace and happiness in the tone of Duffy's voice. Wow. What an amazing person. A great communicator on all levels. I wish you were still here Duffy. Rest in peace blessed one. ❤
A genuinely nice man. I like his thoughts about sharing and not competing. I also like what he said about love. You could see it etched on Buddy Rich's face every time he played. Jackson has a similar look of passion too.
This guy blew me away when I saw him as a HS student in 1980. Got invited to a little reception afterward where I got to meet Duffy as well as the Count himself! (have a picture too) Well I thought that was it and what an awesome experience but it couldn't copare to the fact that Duffy and a couple of other cats from the Basie Orchestra came to our HS band room the next morning early and played with us on some Basie numbers we were working on. What a highlight of my young music experience and they didn't have to get out of bed; it was all unplanned.
One of the nicest people I ever met. I never heard him say anything unkind word about anyone. On top of that, he was a great, natural, musician.
It was very interesting being a musician and working with Duffy genuinely a nice person 1:15
