Great video. From your videos, I think a Lightning would definitely be the pickup I would pick if I needed a truck. Please do me a favor. As a guy who has as much hair as you, I spent a LOT of time in the sun when my kids were playing softball tournaments all over hither and dale. Use some sunscreen my friend. You'll thank me after you get older and don't have skin cancer issues. Sorry to be on a soapbox. Really appreciate all your work here, honestly.
@@mikestrock I appreciate the kind words and you're so right about the sunscreen. By the time I feel it happening, it's too late and I'm so bad at being proactive about it. I hate the sprays and lotions but recently discovered a roll-on style that isn't as greasy feeling. Good looking out, cancer for sure is something I want to avoid.
@@bowefamilyEV maybe a vw baseball hat?
What hotel was that to know to stay there also was the charging free at the hotel in those destination chargers
Cool video CBowe! I enjoyed the trip
You're the best man we need to get together soon! It's been too long 👊
Might be following this route after the Coast cruise with my MME. just depends if I can get the 22nd and 23rd off.
@@JLinder1379 it's a great drive!
@@bowefamilyEV yeah. I’ve done it a few times when I needed to “get away”. Drove to Vegas 3 times just to go buy cigarettes. (More of a run away from adulting thing. 😆 )
Thanks for sharing, Chris! I still haven't taken the Highway 58 (I'm assuming?) route over to Vegas. I usually take Highway 395 if I'm heading that direction out of NorCal. It's definitely slower, but well worth the drive.
Yep I did the 5 to 58 and then the 15 up to Vegas. I'll need to check out 395 next time assuming they have Tesla chargers along that route open to Ford and that my Standard Range can make it to! Anything with V2s for example I can't use.
@@newscoulomb3705 awesome man thanks so much for watching! 🙏
For Rivian, you have to use the Tesla app first before plugging in the charger with adapter.
@@sherwinm Ford has plug-in charge that will automatically start a charge session and bill the card on file but I have that turned off. Since it’s off, I can plug-in first and then use the app to activate the charger. I guess there’s a couple different ways to activate it. I also only use the Tesla app if I’m signed up for the monthly membership discount.
@@bowefamilyEV oh I see. Ya I went to Vegas with a friend and his cybertruck and my R1T. Rivian charges me not Tesla and I pay the non-subscriber rate. Ot begins to auto charge if I don’t initiate in the Tesla app first then plug in. The efficiency between our trucks were very close. But it wasn’t scientifically tested. Had fun though. Videos on both our channels if you got time to check it out.
@@sherwinm I’ll absolutely check them out!
@@bowefamilyEV those chargers in Barstow I believe they turn half off on weekdays. We were there 1.5 week ago. The pull in stalls were working. Vegas trips are fun. EV trips are fun. Love watching EV road trip videos
@@sherwinm that was my longest trip and in December I’ll be taking the family down to Legoland then back up to Disneyland so that’s our next adventure.
Nice
Is it possible to unplug and replug to get an additional 10 min boost when dc fast charging?
@@sandpine it does initially give you you a boost again but it doesn’t last as long. The trucks thermal management will ramp it back down a bit more quickly than the first time. The 2024 also does a bigger boost than the 22 or 23. It can max at around 190kW vs 170 for the first two years.
@@bowefamilyEV ok thanks good to know. I’m thinking of trading my model Y for a lightning flash. From my research I had a feeling the ‘24s could charge faster but the dealer know.
@@sandpine yeah they do a little bit better job of monitoring the thermals and so it lets the truck charge at a higher peak rate and also holds the charge curve a little bit better than the 22s and 23s.

12 hours lol 😂
@@artdcaguy for a short range brick of an EV that’s not bad 🤷♂️ if I wanted speed I’d just jump on a southwest flight ✈️
Not a single data point.
@@8bajwa8 what would be helpful to see for a future one? Would data at each stop be better or a summary at the end? Something else entirely?
@@bowefamilyEV miles per kwh. Charging time percentage added. Distance traveled between each charge.
@@8bajwa8 noted. I went back and added some of the data in the description area of the video. I'll get that better next time as part of the video itself. Thanks for checking it out and for the feedback!
