    I planted corn for the 1st time last year. Planted 4 into a half wine barrel. I fed my corn bloodmeal when it was about 18”, then once more when I saw silk. Every stalk had several ears and they were all perfect. I sprayed Neem oil on the silks at the beginning and had no worms. Growing corn is a lot easier than I thought and tastes SO much better than any store bought. 🙂

    This year, I grew corn in a 20 gallon grow bag for the first time, and it has been amazing. All th18 seeds germinated and my cats ate half, finding them absolutely irresistible. Of the remaining 9, 8 grew to 7 feet and sprouted ears and tassels. A couple have more than one ear, which I did not expect. Thanks for explaining how to know when to harvest. I didn't have a clue!

    I was considering growing some in pots year round indoors under grow lights, doing a few every month so they are continually ready for harvest. I have read you need 25 plants per person for a year and if you can grow them every money, that's 2 to 3 plants per month per person. Since they will have constant water at the base, and I will make sure the pollen gets to the silk, I am hoping to have a nice harvest all year.

We had extreme heat June and July. Tomatoes stay green, cucumbers just not producing, peppers and green beans good but nothing else. He is so sad, going to try new with corn. Thanks for tips.

    I've done Corn in the soil here in Richmond, VA. Every year, the darn cutworms get to it. I've tried every organic, natural, method to prevent this. Next year I'll try containers, and maybe some netting, to see what happens.
    Netting and grow bag helped my pumpkins survive the first wave of vine borers. Sadly, by the second wave the vines were just to long to keep covered. But at least I got a couple of pumpkins out of it.

    • @GrowfullywithJenna
      @GrowfullywithJenna  Před 3 lety +1

      Sorry to hear this, Jacob, that's very frustrating! It seems like containers + netting would be a good solution and I'd be very interested to hear how this goes for you. Squash vine borers got almost all of my pumpkins & winter squash this year as well. I'm searching for viable, natural methods to prevent this next year. I have the same problem as you- once the vines get so big, it's just not practical to keep them covered any longer and the borers inevitably get to them. Best of luck!

    Awesome, this year is first time I’ve tried to grow anything and do to work I didn’t have time to make raised beds so I bought a bunch of Grow bags and I planted everything in 10,20 and 100 Gal bags. And everything was growing so good that I decided to do some more bags so I planted corn in a 20 Gal. bag and planted 6 with 2 or 3 kernels in each hole on July 6th. I no it’s late but I figured what the heck I no nothing about gardening but things are happening so I just went for it and they are all 3 or 4 inches all ready. And today I found your Chanel and to my surprise I did almost what you did with corn in bag but I don’t no anything about the fertilizer I just bought the Natures Care Organic raised bed soil at HD and I’m pumped. My peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, cucumbers lettuce potatoes are doing great just hope my corn does the same, I will def check on the fertilize do you have a certain brand you use. Sorry for the run on I’m just excited things are growing and I found your video on corn and pumped I did it right. You have a happy new subscriber!

    Putting beans in beside corn helps both. The beans give the corn the nitrogen they need and the corn gives the beans something to climb up. Companion growing.

    • @GrowfullywithJenna
      @GrowfullywithJenna  Před 2 lety

      That is certainly a great option! It is important for folks to keep in mind that beans won't fulfill all of corn's nitrogen needs. In a container, some type of supplemental food is still necessary for best results.
