Chris very interesting. I was recently SC for my left ear. I worked on and around aircraft. However they denied me for my right ear.
It's been less than a year last week the VA performed another hearing test this time I meet the criteria so I am going to appeal.
Even on the first test the examiner opined both ears were related to the service however they stilled denied me.
Thank you fir sharing valuable info.
    Peace

I enlisted in 1973, to avoid the draft, which I would have probably had an infantry MOS and sent to Nam. My draft lottery was in the teens, so I knew I was destined to be drafted. So I joined and picked an obscure MOS, with a waiting period of 14 months, so I could avoid going to Nam. Did basic at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Back then, all basic training was geared towards infantry MOS going to Nam. We were issued these cheap ear plugs, which constantly worked their way out of the ear canal, leaving me exposed to loud noise exposure. Almost immediately I started experiencing tinnitus, which gradually worsened. I complained to the Drill Sergeant that I had ringing in my ears, and he said "what, you want me to cry:"? Typical old school Army jargon. I continued firing my weapon, day after day, along with grenades, mortars, claymore mines....Hell, I can't remember all the explosive weapons we were trained with. My tinnitus increased exponentially. Ear plugs kept working their way out, as I jumped, dove, crawled,...some of you know the drill. Needless to say, I eventually had permanent hearing damage due to tinnitus. Not all did, but I guess my DNA had a weak link to loud noise exposure. After basic, I went to AIT and was giving a hearing test. Failed epically, and wes given a H3 profile, Remember, I entered with acceptable hearing at the induction station. After I ETSd, I applied for disability. DENIED... So I never followed up until recently, thanks to President Trump. So, I went to my local VA rep, sponsored by the county and applied for a hearing disability. Long story short, I can barely hear conversation in a busy environment. I avoid talking to people because I'm ashamed of not being able to understand them. I am constantly asking people to repeat themselves, and try to read their lips in order to communicate. The VA says I have a service connected hearing loss, but gave me a 0% disability. I can't hear well at all, but marginally passed the Maryland CNC. I am of the opinion, the VA rigs your hearing test so you will not be financially compensated, unless you are damn near deaf. Veterans need to write their Congress representative, and demand the VA revamp their hearing loss evaluations. I know, thousands of Vets have hearing loss, and it would cost the government much more, but we deserve rightful compensation.

The last draft call was December 7, 1972. The Vietnam cease fire was on January 27, 1973, the military draft was cancelled on that day and remains so today, also all US personal began total withdrawal from Vietnam on that day.

Medical opinions is the easiest way to get service connection for HL. an ENT can easily produce this if your claim is not fictitious... 38 CFR part 4!!!! read it and understand it!!! your hearing loss does not have to be WORST, it just has to be rateable. time has nothing to do with a claim as long as you can prove the injury did not occur after service or from self infliction.

Did this work for hearing loss you got from ARTY? Have you filed the extra scheduler ratings claims and succeeded?

  • @marcelinorodriguez8996

I just received a SSOC confirming a SC 0% Bilateral Hearing loss. The C&P found 84% speech recognition. I however, have a private audiologist that used the Maryland CNC speech recognition test and had me at 67% for both ears. How do I appeal to the VA based on these two different findings.

I worked in EW CDC on an aircraft carrier for 4 years (5 years active), which is very close and immediately under where the aircraft hit the arresting wires when they land. Most landings are loud, but there are some landings that sound like a mack truck just hit a steel wall 3 feet above you. No single or double hearing protection required in the space because we had to communicate effectively (yelling) during watch. My hearing loss is minor but it is there. I also have tinnitus. Both portions were denied fully (0%) on my initial disability claim. Seems like you only get compensation if you can't hear at all. Which might be the case by the time in 50.

you have to show a level of severity. you indicated that you have a 0% rating. that is by no means a denial. you have to become familiar with the rating table for HL to understand how it is rated. if your hearing gets any worse and you are at zero, it is automatically conceded that it is related to service. Lets take a knee for example. you injure it in service and it shos on a VAE that you have pain on movement. That is rated at 10%. it could be the orst pain in the world but you only get 10%. only way to get higher is to show loss of range of motion or extreme joint instability.

They really work to deny all cases no matter the injury and are FORCED to settle severe cases because there's no way out of them.
I was threatened with stopping my case because I didn't have a copy of a letter sent to me which had nothing to do with my injuries.
A copy was on the computer and I saw it. The clerk then hid it from me and denied me the right to bring it back up.
As I would have it I found my copy in my briefcase and showed it to her.
She then brought it back on computer.

Just before utilizing this hearing problems treatment “fetching kamkam site” (Google it), I could hardly hear over the ringing. Now, there`s less ringing and I could hear much better. Just starting but notice a little enhancement after 2 weeks on hearing.

Tinnitus is only rated at 10% no matter how bad [or good] it is. Might I suggest applying for a disability XXXX, secondary [or caused by] your SC tinnitus. Try watching Combat Craig videos-he explains this very well.

Chris, you won't believe the absolute bull that the VA pulled on me about my hearing loss. The VA gave me hearing aids in 2010. I first tested my hearing in 1996. They fought tooth and nail to keep me from getting a disability rating all the way through. In 3912 my truck was stolen, my hearing aids were in it. The VA wanted to retest me in 2913 before they'd give me new hearing aids (at $13,000 per set I can see why) but the doctor falsified the results and the replacement hearing aids were denied. I was retested in 2016 in another VA but they also falsified the results.
My hearing... It's obviously so bad that I can't hear. And I can't get my hearing aids back, and I can't get my rating. I have tinnitus so bad that it's *ALL* that I can hear. It's like going to the doctor to say "look my hand is cut off." And he says "Oh, it's ok." Really?
