    In Mushoku Tensei season 2 we see Sylphy asking Nanahoshi about what she meant by her coming from the same place as Rdudy. But do other characters like Rudeus' wives and sisters ever find out he was reincarnated from another world? And if they do, how do they react? This videos explains some of the key answers to this, and what they say about the Jobless Reincarnation story.

    Paul would likely go crazy not being able to comprehend the difference in his expectations of someone with a adult mind and how Rudeus acted as a child/adult mind and would probably pass out from his brain getting overloaded and waking up a week later.

      Eris is simple, anything more complex than "Do the thing to get the result" is instantly simplified in her mind as such.
      "Rudeus is Rudeus" is the most Eris way of perceiving the situation. She literally doesn't care or want to be bothered with anything more than what she knows to be true.
      It's respectable that she is well aware of her self in this manner and isn't archetypically depicted as most characters like her are.
      That is to say that most are Dumb & Clueless whilelacking any self awareness. Where as Eris is not the most intellectually gifted, has difficulty expressing her feelings and is conciousnessly aware of both.
      Eris also doesn't let that fact stop her from pursuing growth what she identifies as her true strengths to be able to stand next to her perception of Rudeus.
      She knows what she knows, knows how she feels and believes wholeheartedly she needs to learn how to be a better person to be with Rudeus.
      She is a brilliantly written character overall.

Also yes his past life was in his 30s and 40s. But mentally he never grew past his 9th grade year. I don't care if a man is 100yrs old, if he never talked to anyone past dropping out of school then mentally he is still a teenager. His parents just kept leaving food at his door until they passed away. He had never had a job so when his siblings kicked him out he was homeless. This is one side of the "reborn" trope that I feel gets left out of the discussion so often. The interesting thing is, a lot of older anime/manga in the late 80s, 90s, and even 2000s seemed to understand that some might have an issue with the whole mental age thing - and hence why a lot use the concept of them growing at least to be a teenager or so before regaining memories. The whole idea being that they're specifically making the point that the person has a mental age of the body they're in, and the regained memories are just memories not a jump in "mental age". Others around the same time tackled it from the other angle of letting them keep their memories from birth, but due to having to grow up from baby to teenager along with all the various chemicals involved in that - they end up with a mental & emotional age that matches their body, even if they might have the wisdom/intellect of someone much older. I feel like a lot of anime/manga in the last 10 or 20 years has stopped trying to explain why reincarnation is fine for a character as it became accepted within the genre - but sadly they're done it at a time when there are more people wanting to point out why anime/manga or characters are problematic, meaning we rarely get given explanations now outside of gender or species changes.

    With some characters its implied.
    When Roxy talks to Rudeus about his parents funeral she knows it cant possibly be Paul hes talking about and reincarnation is a thing mages of this world can know about. But its mostly restricted to the Dragons in form of magic and Demon Kings, physically.
    Both Zenith and Ghislaine in their respective chapters realize some of the "adult" signs Rudeus has. Ghislaine compared his writing to that of a middle aged man after she learned how to read and Zenith notices beviour like he knows better how to take care of a toddler then her.
    Its missing in the anime but several character to pick up on it.
    Perugius also knows since it is discussed in his castle, the little voyeur.
    And on a side not Philip wouldnt care but rather probably like it for his political movement.

    • @NatalieXHunter
      @NatalieXHunter  Před 2 měsíci +8

      Yeah, as I said in the video, the ones who are discussed are the ones who definitely know something rather than finding Rudy a bit uncanny as a child, and who have some kind of reaction, and who one might expect it to be a surprise to (Perugius for instance, is from another world himself, and Orsted already knew Rudy was a strange presence in this time loop and had met Nanahoshi already, so I didn't feel like them knowing was the same kind of vibe as Sylphy, Eris and Aisha). It is possible lots of people know - I mean, after childhood, where it gave him an advantage and may have made his family feel differently about him, he has no reason to keep it a secret, but at the same time, his shame about who he was before does mean he's not fond of thinking or talking about it (hence why he doesn't tell Nanahoshi who he actually was in Japan until right before they think she's going back). He'd probably rather not bring it up himself and just live as his new self, but he also doesn't need to act or lie to cover it up once he's an adult.

    Given how some people react to the slavery market and Rudy accepting it being part of the world and didn't complain or try to change this, simply bc in OUR world it's bad and not normal for centuries and even try to make it sound like the author was promoting slavery shows that people don't have the brain capacity to comprehend Rudeus relation in the world he lives now.

    • @bravosix2960
      @bravosix2960 Před měsícem +3

      Well the season 2 episode that had that, they were in Ranoa, which as far as I can tell is North Central Continent territory.
      Slavery in the north territories is probably where it is most allowed, Rudeus even thought that he could kill the slave owner and stuff but would be hunted down and killed.
      He knew he wasn’t freeing or saving any slaves here, he was just buying one and they would work on something without actually making the choice to do that themselves.
      So then he got the idea that if (Julie) wanted to die, that he would do that, perhaps she could be reincarnated like him and live a better life.
      But when she said she didn’t wanna die, Rudeus remarked on the fact that she didn’t say she wants to live but if she didn’t wanna die, that’s fine. He just wanted to feed her, get her new clothes and stuff.
      So he does care but not anymore than we do right now, like I know there is slaves in the world now, if I somehow got in a situation. I wouldn’t do anything either, not because I am a bad person. But because I can’t do anything and I don’t wanna die.
      Rudeus is selfish still, he isn’t gonna risk his life and almost 100% get killed in that scenario.
      Assuming you mean the anime episode.
      Since there isn’t much outrage for things not adapted.

    Most likely reaction would be "that explains some things about his childhood", given the world's setting. Past a certain point, people don't change that much unless they do so deliberately. But his behaviors/capabilities as a kid would be something unusual that would merit at least some kind of explanation, especially since he isn't a constant genius all the time.
    Similarly, "mental age" mostly matters for whether someone has matured enough to act like an adult. Some people manage this by/before their 20s in many respects, just lacking a bit of experience when compared to themselves 20 years later, but most similar values/desired outcomes. Others remain immature into their 40s, 50s, and older.

    Plus it is rather heartwarming to see that they don't let this change their views on or how they feel about Rudy even when they don't know the full details, they all still love and care for him exactly the same as they did before, he just has some weird quirk to him, he's still the Rudy they care for and they still care about him.

But since that was Elinalise, and her curse was different (and it didn't cure her memory loss anyway) and Rudy knows all about Elinalise's situation, he can tell Claire it was a flawed approach. But still, clearly Claire did not actually like the idea, she just thought it would save Zenith. None of them knew until the Miko read her memories that Zenith was even aware of things, either.

    actually I would add 2 to the list as not confirmed but one knows something is up and one of them knows it all possibly. For the first is Roxy- she doesn't know everything but knows somethings up but doesn't push. The reason for this is the seen when she talks to Rudy in the room after the rescue mission. The other is Zenith and if she knows she knows. When Rudy was around Zenith after the mission his thoughts were on the death and reflecting to his past life. Given Zenith's powers she would know if they are active at that point and if she knows she took the Eris approach since Rudy is still her son (Claire incident). relooked through miko part probably didnt realize it then but there is still a chance she finds out at some point since Rudy always reflects on his past life at points and it can randomly happen. Also kinda need to add Laura to the list also as a possibly and during jobless oblige cuz it seemed she understood her dad the most out of all the siblings.

    When it comes to past life / reincarnation in anime I think the two that did it best is Overlord and Weakest Tamer Picks Up Trash.
    Overlord because there's a clear conflict in the beginning where Ainz realizes just how different he is becoming due to his new form. And rather than trying to be a human in an undead body he tries his best to become the Overlord that the guardians see him as.
    Weakest Tamer was great because it showed a clear distinction between the two personalities. Her past life as a Japanese person is like a second voice in the back of her mind acting and thinking separately from the personality she was born with.
    Time skips can be really bad for the reader because they don't see the advancing of years (and decades sometimes) so they almost act as if it never happened. Humans change over time and are heavily influenced by their environment.

    Paul probably thinks of Rudeus as just being very smart and book suave. Books allow us to extrapolate information from the lifes of others by giving us an avenue to experiencing things without actually experiencing them ourselves. Because Rudeus grew up reading basically everything he could, most especially things related to magic, Paul probably always thought Rudeus's wisdom was a continuation of that passed down wisdom.
    Because the break down between father and son relationship happens when Rudeus is around 5 years old anyways, Paul finding out later that the kid had an adults mind the whole time from a past life would almost certainly result in Paul having some sort of a mental break down and it almost certainly would result in Paul and Rudeus's relationship being more strained, since Paul excused some of Rudeus's actions as "Too harsh to take out on a child his age". The internal conflict of Paul seeing Rudeus as his son, or as something else would probably result in Paul picking one or the other, either disbelief that Rudeus had such a past and insisting Rudeus was his child, or rejecting Rudeus as his son and disowning him as such.

    I agree with most of your points but I also think most characters would care about him being reincarnated. It would hurt his "child prodigy" status, for one. Reincarnation may be common in this world, but it is also commonly perceived as a continuation of one's consciousness and not just as "memories of a past life", so many would see him as that person. I agree they wouldn't care so much about his cumulative age but they'd care about him pretending to be a child when he wasn't, and the passes he was given because of it. I think at least some would feel a bit deceived and at least Sylphy would be very much interested in knowing about this whole life he had before her, and how that may affect her status as the childhood friend. The way I see it, Eris's reaction isn't the norm, but very much exclusive to her as the meatbrain that she is. I think maybe only Zanoba would react the same way.

    • @NatalieXHunter
      @NatalieXHunter  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Sylphy doesn't seem overly concerned with it though, aside from how it connects him to Nanahoshi, and Sylphy is smart. I think maybe she's just a 'why rock the boat' type person. I do think if people had known when he was a child it would have changed things, but once he's an adult and has already proven he's competent in things that weren't carried over from his old world (like magic and speaking multiple languages from the new world), nobody is really going to think too much on how he had an intelligence advantage as a kid. Maybe Cliff would be pleased to know, because Cliff actually just is that smart and talented without the reincarnation advantage, and knowing Rudy was only better than him as a kid because of that might give him a sense of relief, but I don't think most people who know him as an adult would be that bothered.

Eventually lead into physical relationship. Rudy just happened to stumple on them when they were at it and then the situation just blew up and they ran away from home. Now, imagine what it would mean to live for centuries and see short-lived species repeat the same old mistakes over and over again and not learning from their history that for you is only recent...

    • @NatalieXHunter
      @NatalieXHunter  Před 2 měsíci +2

      I know what you mean, but it would also depend what you value or consider mistakes. A warrior like Ruijerd is hundreds of years old but hasn't concerned himself with social things, for instance, so would he see Norn, who is only in her 20s when they marry, and who isn't a warrior, as making foolish mistakes in her endeavours which he has no experience of? We may think of younger people as making mistakes or being less interesting because they have less experience, but that's because they have less experience in the same things as us. In a world where people are concerned with very different things, I think a socially adept human would seem perfectly competent and interesting to a centuries old tribal warrior.

    Technically Sasaki to Pii-chan and Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement can be on that list but both series are not a permanent Isekai situation.
    Overlord, reincarnated as a slime, and How not to Summon a Demon lord will be on that list when specific future novels finally come out in English.

      Zenith can communicate telepathically with other telepathic people, and she can intuit things to some degree, but she isn't constantly reading the thoughts of everyone around her. That said, there's a strong argument that she does know, but since it's never something we see her react to and it isn't even confirmed that she does, it wasn't something I wanted to include in the video, since there's not really much to say about it. I wanted to talk about the people who do have a reaction to discuss, and the fact Paul definitely didn't know (as obviously if Zenith did it would be after Paul's death).

      In the deleted chapter Rudy does decide to talk to them about his past life, but a) it's the deleted chapter and b) I take it as meaning he'll talk about WHO he was, like he did to Aisha, not about the fact he's had a past life, which they probably already know.

    Pardon me for just throwing this comment out there.
    Rudeus does think about Japan every now and then. Not sure how many times Zenith was or would be near enough and if she could piece things together or just enough.
    I know Paul or Zenith wouldn't care if they knew the truth. Think both might playfully tease him but still consider him their son.
    Someone who it would be interesting to find out is Geese.

      Zenith isn't a full on mind reader though - she can intuit things and communicate with other telepathic people, but she's not aware of every thought people have near to her.

    roxy at the end of this season kinda finds out. he tells a story about a person and its kinda implied that roxy figures it out. man god of course. nanahoshi for sure. sylphie............kinda.......sorta. its never really clear. eris just kinda grunts and is like was that you i grew up with as a kid, then ok.

      It's OK to spoil in the comments for videos that are spoiler videos anyway, so don't worry! I didn't include Roxy in the video because there isn't a definite scene where she learns it and a reaction. I know that's also the case with Sylphy but the Sylphy stuff has already been in the anime so I had to address it.

    • @NatalieXHunter
      @NatalieXHunter  Před 2 měsíci +4

      No, Aisha wasn't isekai'd, she's just really smart and put things together. She's in her mid twenties when they have this conversation, so she's spent years knowing Rudeus at that point.

      As I said in the video, it's in the deleted Aisha chapter of the Redundancy web novel. And yeah, he tells her but she says she'd already figured it out, more or less. This is when Aisha is in her mid twenties and Rudeus in his 30s.

      Well, there are things that suggest Roxy does know but there isn't one moment or reaction, so it'd never confirmed and doesn't really fit with the purposes of this video. We just don't know for sure. But it doesn't seem like it was a secret either.
