LASIK vs ReLEx SMILE
Difference between LASIK and ReLEx SMILE:
Carl Zeiss Meditec Visumax femtosecond makes it the only femtosecond laser is accurate enough to perform laser eye surgery through a keyhole incision in the cornea without the need for creating a flap and disruption of the corneal nerves and tearfilm that results from flap creation in the standard LASIK technique.
My thoughts on the ReLEx SMILE eye surgery:
The device had contact with my eye for less than 40 seconds with extremely low contract force - I didn't feel it.
Through the whole procedure I didn't feel any pain. I felt effectively nothing and there was no red splodges left behind.
ReLEx smile surgery has been shown to have higher accuracy than older laser eye surgery techniques, like PRK and LASK, especially for higher prescriptions.
I had short-sightedness -4.50 D (diopter) and I also had astigmatism of 0.75 D on my left and right eye.
How much does this surgery cost?
About 3500 PLN/one eye

Hello Julia. I’m glad to hear that you still enjoying your new vision.
Quick question. What is the minimum cornea thickness required for Relx smile ?
Jassim Fakhroo it should be 5.4 thick only then u can go for treatment
My cornea was on the thin side. I don't have documents with me, but they told me that if it would be even slightly thiner they wouldn't proceed. I think Mohammed is right. @@ILAPENR but the information is correct. The recommended age range is atleast 18 to 21 until 40. The doctor will test our eyes once to see if we are an eligible candidate. The cornea has to be strong enough to undergo LASIK. When it comes to Relex SMILE, we can easily be a good candidate.
Hi Julia, thanks for the video.
Can you please explain how you see worse at night. Is it because starbursts, glare, halo etc or lower contrast?

SMILE is bladeless and flapless. It largely reduces the risks of dry eyes and there won't be any issues related to flap. - this is what I understood after my small researches.

It’s 22nd March 2023 today so 7 months update: my vision is getting better but still blurry, not clear as I expected. I can’t realy read from far, I wore my glasses when I was 8 years old, so I don’t remember how the “perfect clear vision” looks like! So just for my gut, I am going to book an appointment with an optometrist to check my vision and if I need glasses.. I don’t have dry eyes really, sometimes I get because I work in my laptop for 8hours and use phone.
Hazy/ glares vision at night/ evening is still there, I think I should leave with that forever… I will see my surgeon again in August for my one year post appointment, so I will raise all these and update you again.
@@vshalou19 what your power before? I have around 100 myopia quite low but i dont want to experience dry eye halo after lasik.
Nice video and fair play for answering lots of questions. I like the idea of RS over Lasik because it involves less of the cornea to be cut, and therefore less 'damage' if you can call it that. I am working a lot on computers at the minute so I will wait until I leave my job I think. Thanks!
I can still highly recommended this procedure! It’s been almost 3 years and I’m still super grateful for the results. I work on computers all day long but I use the app that reminds me to take breaks to look away every 5-10 minutes. It helps a lot!:)
@@JuliaCaban Happy to hear that! Sounds like it went really well for you :) I could do with an app like that I think! My eyes are super sensitive, they even struggle with the most delicate/moist contact lenses. I think maybe I just need to relax them more. Thanks for the reply!

Hi there. I am thinking to get this procedure as well. But i am a bit scared. How long did it take for you to completely able see clearly?
To see perfectly clearly, without a blur or a white layer it took me a month, but around 12h after the procedure I was able to see and get around by myself, work (I did limit my time in front of the computer though and took many brakes, because it was straining for my eyes), ride a bike, take buses and do all the stuff I used to do before the procedure :)
I know that people who get Lasik are able to see perfectly right after the procedure, but with Relex Smile it takes some more time and it's completely normal.
@@JuliaCaban hi julia th1nks for the video i know it is been 2 years but i want to ask you.

You are so beautiful I’m 20 and going to try this out
16 days done of smile laser treatment but little bit blurry pls give some advice.. and can I use mobile and laptop's???
My vision wasn't perfect for about a month. But definitely mention it when you see your doctor. You can use mobile and laptops, but take breaks often. Your vision still needs to recover so your eyes will get tired more often than before the surgery. So for the first month, take lots of walks outside, try to look far away often, don't look at screens too often, try to close your eyes as often as possible. Use drops that your doctor recommended.
Ty mam❤️
Sharid , how is your vision now? 20/20? After how many days you reached perfect vision? When the blurriness disappeared?
How long before your vision got clear? I am 1 week post SMILE Surgery, and my vision is still a bit blurry.
I believe it took me a whole month to see clearly and without that white layer, but I didn't need to wear glasses that whole time - I was able to commute no problem, just my vision wasn't perfect, but still much better than before the procudure! Lights at night look normal to me now. Maybe I just used to it;)
@@JuliaCaban so you are seeing halos & or star bursts when looking at lighting. That's a bummer
What problems you face at night due to surgery?
Only dry eyes sometimes, but eye drops helps and I had the same problem before the surgery so not sure if it’s actually connected :) at night lights look different than before the surgery, I already used to it and forgot how they looked before ;)
Did you develop any hyperopia? Like do you need to wear reading glasses when you read? Also what happens to your vision at night
Nope, I didn't. I don't need to wear reading glasses. My vision at night needs a little bit more time to adapt to low light - although I start to think it might be a result of using super bright OLED screens all the time. When I don't use my smartphone that often my vision is super sharp day/night.

Is it real ? Plz don't scare
Thanks for Sharing..I think I will continue with glasses....
That is because you did not search before doing the surgery u should have proper corneal thickness and healthy eyes
To update you guys. Its now 3 years since surgery. I have been wearing glasses since 6months post surgery. The vision is appalling, and I am more dependant on glasses than before the surgery. But much worse is the irreversible damage to my now dysfunctional eyes. The surgeon Alex Shortt said I was a great candidate. But in reality I was not. The industry is not regulated and surgeons use human eyes as commercial gain. Please read up on Dr Moris Waxler who led the FDA team who approved laser eye surgery. He now is campaigning to have it banned. My life is ruined. Please do not repeat my mistake.
Can you correct your poor vision at night with glasses?
Eye drops help with that! I realized that when my eyes are super dry - which is usually later in a day, my vision gets more blurry.
It's disturbing how many people here ask for advice on a CZcams video about eye surgery instead of actually going to a good clinic, get properly tested, and ask actual surgeons or anyone that works there... Everyone is different and so is every situation, you can't really go off on that alone.
No wonder all these horror stories appear out of the blue,
