This would've been an excellent film had it been made in 1982 while the play was still going.
Agreed!!
Here I am stuck discovering there wasn’t one through this comment😂❤
I saw this mastepiece of a musical back on April 26th 1982 with the original cast, and IDC how many revivals, national tours or even the 2006 film will ever hold a candle to this OBP. There will never be a cast as perfection than this one, and no one can ever match jennifer Holliday's " And I'm telling you ".
I can remember it as if it were earlier today. Damn that show was exceptional!
AGREED!!!!!
I saw the OBC and at the end of act one I really felt like I was going to pass out, it was SO INTENSE and so genius
I remember seeing this commercial as a child. They need to do a broadway revival
The movie was my introduction to this timeless rags to riches story! Five years ago, I saw the national tour production direct from the Apollo starring Shyena Mercado as Deena Chester Gregory as Jimmy and it was spectacular with original scene designer Robin Wagner doing beautiful LED screens. Dreamgirls will live on forever
This exciting spot showed not only on television, but in movie theaters. Fabulous, and many thanks for posting!
+Rafael Storm Did not know that
I wish was born around this time
It still brings me joy, after all these years.
same
If only we had this high of quality film for this production.
I’ve seen one half decent one, but could you imagine how much better it could have been if it looked better?
What a wonderful commercial for a spectacular show!!
I wish it was turned into a movie a year after the play came out but I understand that they were still touring.
When I tell you I remember this ad from my younger days, I lie not! It just ignited my imagination. I miss seeing these great trailers for Broadway shows.
I wish i'd seen it when it was on Broadway, but then again I was 12 at the time!
Me too i only lived across the water i kept begging my mother to get the tickets
A tour de force. I will never forget the original cast!!!!!!!!
Damn I wasn’t even alive
@@MizterB lol right I wasn’t even thought of🤦🏾♀️😭
I wish you would’ve seen it when you were 12… It would’ve changed your life it was that spectacular. But you can enjoy it here on CZcams.
That little snippet of Jennifer singing And I am Telling You, almost got me bawling!!!! Gosh I wish I had a time machine!!!!
Oh yeah dreamgirls baby!!! This trailer is SOOO awsome!!! And when dreamgirls played MY smile was huge!!!👏👏👏👏👏😆😆😆😆😆❤❤
Man I really wish the movie was able to be made with the original cast
I need this on dvd or something 😩 I was born 1984😭
My favorite musical
I'm mad. I was 1 when Dreamgirls debuted on Broadway. Damn, just, damn.
It’s a good thing you can enjoy it here on CZcams… Although live is spectacular
I can't believe you can't buy this original 😢😢😢😢😢
The biggest displeasure they made with this cast the original cast. Was not give them some sort of movie omg I imagine if this was actually filmed and gave a decent fare production team behind them. Oh my God we'll still be watching this till today.
❤💙💜💛
So, if they have this footage (that was aired specifically for advertisement purposes at the time), it makes you wonder if more footage like this is available? If so, why was it not formulated into a full-fledge feature film?
My hubs told me that originally they recorded the shows live to archive for revivals. The actors would study these for their performances
When they create a commercial, it's taken from an EPK. This is an electronic press kit, where they shoot certain scenes and edit them together for an advertisment/commercial. They never shoot the show in its entirety for this purpose.
They will regularly film shows for archival recordings, but these are done with a single camera, usually from the back of the stalls or sound desk.
Song 0:55?
one night only (disco)
This trailer is such bullshit. The best part of the show was Jennifer Holliday and she had barely 30 seconds in this, she was beyond beautiful and incredible I could look and listen to her for hours she's enigmatic even at 20.
Awww, spoken like a two year old… the commercial is great and the live performance was spectacular. Charles is right.
… and it’s not a trailer, trailers are for movies… This is a commercial for a live Broadway show… you must be a child of the 2000s with little to no imagination and a short attention span … no offense… it is not your fault. This is what smart phones and the Internet has done to creativity… But in the early 80s there was excitement, and imagination… we experienced things, we didn’t just watch them on a smart phone.. There was buzz about this show that was incredible… nothing like it in today’s world. 😢
@@johnlyndsay Lol you sound so pompous get a life and try to accept other opinions other than your own. I still stand by what I said this trailer is trash, thankfully Jennifer FOUGHT for her role and made sure Effie had more scenes instead of making her a junky that disappeared into oblivion(what was originally planned she had to fight the directors)
heres an idea! do some research and realize the 80s were all about looks and they put looks before talent which is evident through this trailer and Jennifer Holliday is a testimony to that. ☺️
Here ya go JOHN. czcams.com/video/v52awdvHcYA/video.html
@@charles1291 Actually, Deena has more stage time and more numbers
This show changed everything for blacks on broadway in the early 80’s.
The movie was trash 😢
