A true story here. Back in 2013 I did some time for a DWI and I remember this commercial playing a lot on the tv in the day room. And it became a thing we all would say “so if you care to find me look to the western sky!”. So anyone looking this up like I did, here is a story lol

This trailer is such bullshit. The best part of the show was Jennifer Holliday and she had barely 30 seconds in this, she was beyond beautiful and incredible I could look and listen to her for hours she's enigmatic even at 20.

I saw this mastepiece of a musical back on April 26th 1982 with the original cast, and IDC how many revivals, national tours or even the 2006 film will ever hold a candle to this OBP. There will never be a cast as perfection than this one, and no one can ever match jennifer Holliday's " And I'm telling you ".

And just a bit of 'historical' correction below to the comment re: Sammy Williams having AIDS. Indeed, when I saw this ad again a number of years ago I was stuck by how thin Mr. Williams was in the face, but, being of the generation just after his I knew well that HIV was estimated to have entered the North American population no earlier than 1979; it would have been highly improbable for this actor/dancer to have been ill with HIV in 1975, when he debuted this role, and even if he were ill he wouldn't have had the stamina to play this role eight times a week. Mr. Williams died in from cancer in 2018 at the age of 70.

It always amazes that Marvin Hamlisch was never again to be so fortunate as to compose for a property of this caliber - his other theatre scores have, with their shows, fallen into obscurity - the trivia of idiosyncraticshow queens and arcane theatre historians - and yet 'A Chorus Line' is doubtless the finest thing he ever wrote by far, surpassing his movie songs and scores (in my opinion, at least). May I venture to say the show would not have been half the success it was without his melodies...to hear 'One' for, what, the ten thousandth time? is to hear it for the first time and yet be convinced you've known it all your life.
