If they leave CA it should be illegal for them to operate in any other state. They take your money for years and in an actual time of need they flee

We deregulated much of the insurance industry back in the 1990s. Corporate greed and corruption are behind this, not anything remotely resembling integrity or honesty. You forget the corruption of the Republican insurance commissioner years ago who took bribes .

Florida yes. Texas, not so much. It’s all about states trying to control prices. State politicians demand insurers maintain billions in policyholders protection funds so they are solvent during major disasters and then publicly abuse them for having funds available to pay for massive disasters like Florida and California have. Why do you think State Farm has a separate company for California and Florida and their main company that insures the other 48 states???

I guess you forgot about the last republican insurance commissioner in California Chuck Quackenbush. He had to resign because it was revealed he was taking bribes. In early 2000, Cindy Ossias, then a senior lawyer for the California Department of Insurance (CDI), charged the Department with corruption. According to testimony by CDI employees, including Ossias and staff attorney Robert Hagedorn, Commissioner Quackenbush and his top aides abused their positions for personal gain and acted against consumers' interests for many years. Quackenbush fled to Hawaii and never went to jail as he should have.

When is the last time you heard of an insurance company going bankrupt. They just raise rates to cover themselves !

All of the anti-government right wingers who seem to want to coddle corporate thieves forget about the cautionary tale of Republican California insurance commissioner Chuck Quackenbush. Insurance companies don't want to pay claims for natural disasters like wildfires, earthquakes, tornados, or hurricanes. They're leaving both red and blue states. This really should not be a partisan issue. But we can't have nice things.

The pro billionaire corporate media have convinced many Americans that government regulations are evil even though we tried laissez-faire capitalism before and we got screwed. They also forget the last really corrupt California insurance commissioner Chuck Quackenbush who it was revealed was basically taking bribes. He moved to Hawaii and avoided prison time. He was a Republican.
