If an EMT makes less than a fast food worker, there's a huge problem. FGN
EMT is an entry level job as well, My nephew started as an EMT while in college and that 2 years experience plus his degree got him a job at a fire deptartment (that also provides EMT services) earning over $100,000 per year as soon as he finished his education.
Now that's scary to even think about....even scarier to witness.
@@howardmarkert8150Fast food is an entry level job as well.
@@G-Man-kc2nm Yes, and this means that because fast food wages have gone up, EMT starting wages will also go up eventually in order to fill the much needed job vacancies. Supply and demand work in the labor market just like in any other semi free market.
Except flipping burgers and making split second decisions on a variety of diagnoses is exactly the same skill level right?
How screwed are we! Biden at the fed level and Newsom at the state level.
Flippy gonna sp4nk you 😩
You are so right. All of our problems from the past 100 yrs started the moment Buden was voted in. 😒
By the way, f*** Biden, but don't be ignorant. Both sides suck and only care about money and ego. Wake up
The people of California voted him in, this must be what they wanted. My suggestion is to consider you voting pattern and VOTE DIFFERENTLY! Vote for conservatives. Throw out the tax and spend liberals. And if you say your vote doesn't matter, I'm only one person OR ANY OTHER EXCUSE then you disserve what you get, but please, whatever you do, don't move to Florida, Texas or Tennessee because we don't want your brand of crazy.
I just moved out of Cali. it's un fixable at this point. Watch Escape from LA it's an old film but a prediction of where the state is going. 😢

If you’re spending $50 on fast food for two, you better learn how to cook.
Another good reason to avoid these toxic food factories, they've always been poor value anyway. I go maybe thrice per yr and always surprised how bad they are.
I will spend 100$ on fast food I don’t care
@@killer12545I agree with you spending money on fast food is simply a treat to yourself an your family/ friends ❤ plus after my wife got pregnant I'd buy it every day so I'm used to it.

I really don't understand what California thought would happen when they passed this...
Because it's working and $100 an hour will be 5 times better 😂

@@jaquan3571 "We all got a huge pay raise today, drinks are on me...5 beers please"

Dumbest thing I’ve ever witnessed in my life. California is done.
By far, California is the most f'd up state in the union. The battle for 2nd place is between Oregon and Illinois.
Workers have a right to unionize. Decades of low wages and you all are mad employees win. Strange.
@@robertturner1308 Did the "mad employees" win? They're going to have to work harder with less workers and they'll have to worry about their job disappearing.
That doesn't sound like a "win" to me.
@@robertturner1308 Nobody wins. I was a teamster and that was a total waste of money out of my check. Got out in my small window of opportunity.
@@1995texasaggie I was an unrepresented analyst with a masters degree and 9 years of experience. When layoffs came in the Great Recession I was still let go and not rehired as they were not required to rehire us as unrepresented staff. If I was in a union they would have had to layoff a newer employee with less seniority or at least rehire me first when the budget improved as it was not a performance based layoff. I am in a union now and it is money well spent. The only raises we get are what our union fights for. Most people are not in unions but should join them and live better.
I work as an EMT for a Fire Department in California.
I make $3 less per hour than a McDonalds employee.
Leaves me scratching my head on why I work as hard and for as many hours as I do if I could be making more doing a much simpler, less stressful, and safer (mentally + physically) job. I'd be making $3 more per hour, and I wouldn't have to worry about telling a wife that her husband is dead beyond resuscitation, and we can't save him. I wouldn't have to cover a corpse with a sheet and try to console her as she desperately grieves for her recently passed.
If you are only getting $17 as an EMT, that tells me that your employer doesn't respect you or what you do.
This $20 hike is only to raise wages in every job in Cali. The cost of living will ski-rocket for everyone. The rich demos can afford it and don't care. The money (taxes) grab by the politicians is grotesgue.
@@suddenlysolo2170 That's the standard in Ca, in other states they get paid even less lol.

When he's ready, he'll run for President. Until then he's making sure he looks good to his base.
@@fractal9720 Yeah, Republicans failed. Just like they fail at everything.
yeah ok dude
Why is no one talking about how Panera Bread is skating off scott-free? The abuse of power here by Newsome is appalling.
UPDATE: Newsom’s office clarified that a legal analysis determined Panera does not fall under the exception because it mixes its dough off-site instead of fully producing bread on the premises of its retail locations.
Panera sends a lot of dough to Newsome, so they're ok. It's all about bribes.
Gavin made an exemption to the new minimum wage laws specifically for businesses that made bread on location before the laws got enacted. He clearly only plans to allow his friend to benefit, while at the same time, block all other businesses from now making bread on location to get the same financial benefit by paying a lower wage.
I hope the scheme backfires when all of the now-underpaid Panera workers go to competitors that pay better, and Panera loses its business for being so shady.
@@oahuhawaii2141 good thing you can make bread easily. EVERYONE SHOULD BE BUYING SMALL COMMERCIAL BREAD OVENS.
Story here on the East Coast is that is because one of his college chums own Panera Bread.
Panera is not exempt. There was a story on the news a few weeks ago that they will be paying the $20 per hour. But stating this fact doesn’t serve your political agenda, does it?
"Can I get two double cheeseburgers and a large Coke, please?"
"Sure, thing. That'll be $49.95. Would you like fries with that order?"
"How fast can you do a credit check?"
Why, five guys have been charging that much for their menu prices long before this wage increase. And people eating there never had the problem of spending that much.
As a fast food worker, I am now at $20 an hour. But the irony here is that I am making way less now. Why? Because any business that has to pay $20 an hour has slashed employee hours to part time. At $16.50 an hour, I was getting 6 to 8 hour shifts. At $20 an hour, I am only getting 4 hour shifts and somedays, only 3 hours. So I have taken a significant pay cut. And with California auto insurance having just gone up 33%, and rents that just keep going up and up, I don't know how I am going to survive. Thank You Governor Gruesome.
Hundreds of thousands of people now unemployed. Take that last check and buy a tent. You will be joining the ranks of the rest of California residents on the street homeless.

All Fast food in CA needs to close and let the state fall on its face.
Thats exactly what they want , to ruin the country & pitbsmaller buisinesses out ! Same thing they did during the plan demic. It has nothing to do with min. Wage . Its the agenda. It doesn't effect the wealthy evil elites .
I hope they run off tourism dollars while they are at it.

If all fast-food restaurants closed, California would not fall flat on its face, but I can assure you that there will be less obesity, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes. Why does everyone choose to see the glass half empty rather than it being half full.
The most frustrating thing about this for me is I’m a home health care worker that’s taken several medical training and I only get $16 an hour to keep my patient alive. He stays with me and I have a mortgage to pay and he only gets $1,000.00 a month from social security. How is this fair to everyone else. This price hike only went to fast food workers . French Laundry pays more than $20 per hour
@@nolanchen1876Do they? Do you really think Newsom pays well🤔
@nolanchen1876: The French Laundry is a very high-end restaurant that charges over $300 for its standard prix fixe meal. Its typical customer can afford to pay the high price for the meal. The chefs at The French Laundry are highly trained, highly skilled, and under the high pressure of exacting work for long hours; accordingly, they deserve the much higher pay. Since the restaurant already pays more than $20/hr, it won't need to raise its wages under this law.
I ate there once, a very long time ago, when the prix fixe dinner was "only" $100, plus $15 for the supplement to upgrade with beluga sturgeon caviar and pâté de foie gras courses. A friend brought 4 different bottles of wines from his personal collection, but the maître d' limited us to the chard and the cab, which weren't on the overpriced wine list, and then charged us $100 for corkage fee. Our waiter screwed up by not getting us a decanter, despite us requesting one from the start of service and after each course, until he finally listened when our filet mignon was served. We had to wait for our red to air; as our steaks were getting cold, we decided to eat them first, and drink our aired wine when the rabbit course came up next. Our friend had gristle on the side of his filet, and he also complained that his lobster claw had a bit of shell embedded in it, and our waiter let our water glasses go empty and still did nothing until we repeatedly asked for water. Two strikes each for our maître d', chef, and waiter.

The automation suggestion is just brilliant! Truly a brilliant solution. Lets extrapolate this idea of widespread automation of labor jobs: Step 1: People buy goods and services with money from their jobs.Step 2: automated machines replace workers who then lose their jobs. Step 3: No one is left to buy goods and services, because they have no money, because they have lost their jobs. BRILLIANT!
You don't know how many times me and my wife tossed that scenario around while having a few drinks.
Sounds like it came down from Joe Biden himself 😂

I know how you feel
$20 dollars an hour minimum wage will destroy what ever is left of Califonia. More people will now leave California.
AVOID...avoid..avoid. See a McDonalds. Drive on by!
Unfortunately “fast food places“ doesn’t just include McDonald. They also include the burger truck that the black single mom run to make money to raise her kids.
You can’t shut down the mega corp with the minimum wages, but you will shut down the Mom and Pop stores and put people on the streets.
I assume that’s what you want, right? Congratulations for getting your wishes 🎉🎉🎉
Why do you want to punish McDonald's franchisees for California's mismanagement?
More jobs lost and taxation lol 😂
Haiku!
and lose weight and save money.....
Are the restaurants that install the automated machines, going to reduce their prices?
HELL NO THEY WON'T!
Depends. If no one is going there because of the pricing I bet you would see the pricing drop some. But if people are still stupid enough to buy a burger, fries, and a drink for $20.00 then heck no they aren't going to drop the pricing because they are a business and they are trying to make profit.
boycott the automated restaurants, make the investors in automation lose their money.

R.I.P. McDonalds. More robotics = less taxable work force = less tax revenue = higher taxes
a 40 hour week comes to $800, plus payroll taxes on the employer, insurance, etc. That's $41,600/year for a low skill job not even requiring a (worthless) HS education. Six employees would be almost a quarter of a million. How does a business afford this? How could they pass on this cost to their customers (even if they made $800/week). Do you see anything wrong here? Like telling an employer how to run his/her business? The CA gov and the legislature are out of their mind. Or maybe they want total government dependence for everyone?
True I guess they want all their profits for them
Don't forget that the big chains like McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell and such the franchizee pays unbelievable amounts to the parent just to able to sell those foods.

@Glovemanification no it won't, bc bosses will say I can't afford these new prices, cost, so I'm gonna cut hours or lay off so somebody
@@raymondlin8728 actually other wages and prices will probably increase like they always have.
@David-rx5eo I have worked at diners before, so at least they let u take home some food at the end of the day if they're gonna throw it out anyway. That's a free dinner and or breakfast right there. In a dental office, nothing. Maybe some toothbrush and floss. Lol

My career was a high paying job, but before I got to that point I did work in several minimum wage jobs, some of which were jobs a lot of people would not do.
If we go to complete automation in these fast-food restaurants, that would be a blessing. Less air born illnesses, and unsanitary practices of employees not washing hands after using the bathrooms and coming into work sick with having bad customer service and salty attitudes. I love it. No, only big corporations has to pay their employees 20%. Listen sir, these companies are making billions and you act like a couple more bucks are gonna drain them. They have enough money now through the unchecked corporate greed and by raising prices beyond people’s means.
Franchisees are also run by small business owners. The man they are interviewing is not big corporation. He is a small business owner running under a franchise. If he loses his business he loses his source of income to support his family.
@@alxtan1 that means there is not enough demand to keep his business going. It’s tough but reality, capitalism only benefits those who provides something to the economy. So tough luck man
You can’t force revenue by underpaying employees. If that’s the case, than that means that the area is simply not making enough money. It’s just business. Many like him didn’t even get to the point of supporting themselves like he has for that long.
That guy was pushing automation. Automation equals high equipment cost, higher food prices, closing businesses, and loss of jobs. A win win for only a few.
People don't seem to realize that unless you're higher up in management or administration, *FAST FOOD ISN'T MEANT TO BE A LIFELONG CAREER.* It's more of a first job for a kid just getting started, or maybe a retired person looking for some extra cash. I've NO sympathy for these workers. They wanted the higher wage, so now they can live with the consequences. Did they actually think their wages could go up without everything else costing more? Get real!
i agree with you, but you really can't fault people for wanting to get a higher hourly wage, the blame falls on the politicians who approved this crap, they could have remedied the situation in a better way.
No because they don’t think. Liberals don’t use common sense. They see higher wage and vote yes
The government cant manage a budget much less give information on how to do business. Let the market will take care of itself, and get rid of some of these restriction to help small businesses expand to bring some of these prices down and give consumers more choice.

Let me teach you something about economics. When I worked fast food I would make a $1000 dollars worth of sales while maybe getting $80 dollars after tax for the day. I get the business owner takes on risk and everything but the employee who made that $1000 should be making more than 8% of the sales that they made and economically speaking labor can take up to 25% and still have the numbers work out. Employees and employers are supposed to negotiate but every place I worked would just pay the minimum wage. As such in lieu of lack of negotiations wage gains have to be made somewhere and that has been done via legislation for the past 10 years. Without this type of legislation the minimum wage would still be $7.25 an hour and McDonald's would still be expensive this is evident as markets with no raise in minimum wage have also seen a disproportionate amount of price increases.
Even $20/hour isn't a living wage. It used to be that a man could work a 40 hour a week job, buy a home, a car, support a wife and children, and mom stayed at home. Now, both people have to work a full time job (sometimes 2), and can't afford to buy any of that, much less afford children. But people are freaking out that the birth rate has dropped below the replacement rate. Nobody is talking about the CEO's of these companies getting multi-million dollar bonuses every year. Shameful. Trickle down economics was always voodoo, and it doesn't work.
And your solution is?
@@nicholasthompson7690 The answer is simple: get money into the hands of working people in the form of a living wage. I did the math; in order to live as we did in the 70s a person would have to make $32/hour. Working people making enough money to thrive buy homes, cars, appliances, new clothes for their kids, etc. Go look up the bonuses of CEO's of McDonalds, Amazon, any big company. I think Walmart is the absolute worst example; they pay their employees as little as possible while encouraging them to apply for food stamps and other government payments. We have homeless veterans! VETERANS!
What I got out of this, is there’s just one more reason to hate California, as if there weren’t enough reasons already!
Now, we as customers demand tips!!
luv it!
Hey... get this... I kid you not, my local UPS Store now has a tip jar. I ignore it.
It's been months since I've eaten fast food in the Los Angeles. The price of Mc Donald's has doubled in the past couple years and we can now literally go to a restaurant to get a burger for the same price. The politicians don't understand the impacts of the laws they pass. Yet, we still elect them. Amazing.
In a democracy the people get what they vote for. In California they're getting it good and hard. EVERY chain fast food restaurant in my city (SF Bay Area) has FIRED their cashiers and replaced them with self-order kiosks. Every. Single. One.
@desolder75 Unfortunately, very stupid people show up to the polls and vote.
You pointed out the root of the problem all right: Continuing to "elect the same politicians over and over again." What you didn't say is, ALL of those "Politicians" we continue to elect are Liberal Democrats.
Years ago California elected the greatest governor they ever had. His name was Ronald Reagan, and he was a Republican. Those were the "good old days" for California.
They need to be forced to pay their employees than run their very business, but theyll casually pay out a dividend to shareholders, sounds like they should cut their dividend and priorities employees salary instead
Why go out at all? Grow up and make your own food at home...
The cost of living in the hole country is to high
If im not mistaken, you need to have a couple of stores for that to be in effect
Where are the groups of people who were standing with the governor cheering , saying we did this? Are they now in the unemployment line? Who is going to pay almost 20 dollars for a fast food hamburger, nobody!
Literally no reason to eat out anymore. Make a big dinner at home and have leftovers for the next day's lunch. No reason to pay these inflated prices as well as guilted into tipping when they provide no service that warrants a tip. Totally out of hand. I feel sorry for these business owners having to pay an arbitrary 25% increase for a job that requires no skill whatsoever.
and some restaurant enforced us to give them tip .. delivery tip is ok. Since this tip issue I start to cook more often , is healthy and not to expensice.
