390 Duke Throttle Body Removal

  • I removed and cleaned the throttle body on the 390 Duke but the reason I needed to pull it off the bike was to replace the idle adjustment screw that I damaged whilst trying to raise the idle to prevent the bike from stalling, but in doing that I caused a secondary problem which was the bike surging and backfiring. Adjusting the idle meant that the throttle position sensor was thrown out of whack so the ECU was sending extra fuel into the engine causing the surge.
Well, long story short, the bike is running better than ever with a cleaned throttle body and the idle circuit reset to the factory default.

Jesus wept ! What a bloody nightmare Nick.
The lonliness of the long distance KTM home mechanic.
Only avenue not yet explored is the injector, to hopefuly cure the stalling prob.
ps. Your mechanical skills have 'gone thru the roof'
Look forward to your next vid. where hopefully, the stalling issue has been resolved.
'Tis enough to turn a man to drink. ❤

Strictly speaking, 20-something years ago, I was a RAEME Craftsman doing mechanic-y things ;)
I do what I can with no garage and very few tools though :)

@@gregmarrott7228 yeah, I was using an OBD2 scanner in the video, you just need an adaptor as the port is different than on cars

@@gregmarrott7228 My original thoughts were bad fuel as it had been sitting around (subsequently stolen and recovered, too!) and a clogged injector. I've been running it on 98 octane since I've had it so any bad fuel has been well and truly flushed out of the system. It could well be a faulty/dirty 02 sensor, but the engine hasn't thrown any codes to suggest it, but it might be a good idea to pull it and maybe spray it with some contact cleaner? Food for thought, certainly

Seems like you sorted it hopefully it will go better too as I have seen a acceleration video and this bike should be quite fast
