@@Waydots Took me an hour or two to realize OSRS is simply better in terms of gameplay - Especially how rewarding the gameplay is.
Even more so if Ironman of any kind.
RS3 isn't even really Runescape if you think about it for even a little bit.
Runescape is a Dungeons & Dragons -like Medieval game with dangerous monsters ranging from Rats to Dragons, and everything in between.
What the fuck is Telos then? Or even being able to fight Zamorak?
OSRS feels more closely tied to the concept of Runescape itself, the D&D aspect of it.
It ACTUALLY is Runescape-ey. Runescape 3 a LOT less so, IMO -
And I say this as having played ONLY RS3 for the past 17-18 years, on and off...

I have been playing runescape since 2003. I played rs2, I played through eoc, I played rs3, and when osrs came out, I started playing both osrs and rs3.
For the longest time, I would burn out on 1, then focus on the other for a while, then burn out on that one, etc. I have played over 20k hours if you combine both games. I say all of this to give context. Last month I finally decided to permanently drop rs3 and continue with only osrs.
I find that it's not just the hero pass stuff. In fact, it's not any one update in particular. For the first time in 20 years, I just don't feel excitement to log in anymore. Like you say, it's not just the hero pass, it's the general sentiment and mindset of the playerbase. Rs3 finally reached that point for me where it stopped feeling like a game. In all these years, we've had highs and lows, but throughout all of it I never felt like the game itself stopped being fun for me. Until now.
Hero pass is the final straw for me. Not the update itself. But what the update represents. The feeling of "what I once knew and loved is gone, and will never be coming back".
Having said that, osrs has been having a series of absolute bangers with its recent updates. Hit after hit after hit, one success even better than the next. I am very excited for the future of osrs!

Completely disagree about necromancy. This is the most fun I've had with Runescape combat at any time and I know they will tune the other styles up eventually to match Necromancy. Yes, hero pass and combat xp nerfs do suck pretty hard, but honestly don't effect my almost maxed Ironman much.

    • @The_Dutch_Jaguar
      @The_Dutch_Jaguar Před 9 měsíci

Only people I see genuinely think Necro is fun are those that suck at PvM and are really happy with the free damage.
This is absolutely horrible to Combat because any other styles weapons & armour crashed by at least half their value.
So this is completely irresponsible of you to just say ''Well I'm having fun, that's all that matters!''

I think the ‘I’ve done it, I’ve done irons’ before makes a lot of sense, maybe would be cool to see ‘rs3 player returns to osrs to green log raids’ or something that sets a certain goal. Maybe not that painful but something ‘new’ to chase/play for. Will always watch the videos either way and just happy to see new videos!

But as a grown up with a family and many responsibilities I don't have 10 hours a day free time that it takes to make progress in osrs... Also the combat in osrs is so boring when you compare it to the interactive combat in rs3 especially higher end bossing... It's like hard to enjoy that simple click and watch your character fight combat after experiencing all the things you do in rs3 while you're in combat... It's like if you have a honda civic, its a nice daily reliable fuel efficient car, but once you experience a ferrari it's hard to enjoy a civic the same way you used to.

In what way do you feel misled by necromancy as a skill? How is it different then "advertised" on release?

    • @Waydots
      @Waydots  Před 9 měsíci +3

As advertised necromancy was going to fit into the combat system of rs3 and turn our beloved triangle into a square. The problem with necromancy currently is that it is so overpowered and so easy that using any other combat style feels bad because you could be doing whatever your currently doing, more efficiently and easier if you just used necromancy, which has added a level of complacency and "boring" to the gameplay loop while also eliminating the feeling of choice that the previous combat system aided in.

Appreciate the answer and understand. I feel like update like these in MMOs are ALWAYS overpowered at first. It brings in new player and returning players doesn't matter what game it is, if its WoW, Apex etc.. new items, classes etc.. are always a massive power spike until re-balanced.

I tried OSRS for about a month when it first came out. The deal breaker for me was actually no Australian servers. So I ended up learning to love RS3, and by the time Australian servers were implemented, I'd sort of lost interest in switching.
It had always been in the back of my mind as something I wanted to do eventually, actually give OSRS a fair try. It was Necromancy that pushed me there. The Hero Pass made that especially easy but Necromancy was the driving factor. I knew the issues it would bring the moment they announced how gearing would work. So much content just became obsolete. It was essentially the biggest content nuke in Runescape history. The game's state just makes me kind of sad now. So it was time to make the switch.
I've had my bones seeping cold for the past week, have 94 FM, and when I'm finally done with Wintertodt I'm so excited to explore a new version of the game.

I quit RS3 a few years ago after coming back from a decade long break, and every time I start to get drawn back into the game Jagex does something terrible that throws away all of the interest I got back. Last time, I played for about a month or so before they announced Fresh Start Worlds, with all of the microtransactions included to give people the drive to spend a ton of money on exclusive cosmetics. It was such a massive cash grab, and it lost a lot of good will. Then finally my interest starts to come back, and they announce the Hero Pass and all of the drama with it. The reason I quit a few years ago is because it came out that someone spent over $30k(?) in a week and it didn't trip their alarms for concern. They then celebrated mental health week with predatory MTX deals, designed to make you spend as much as possible. They've sold out RS3 hard time and time again, and despite making multiple promises to try and change things for the better, they did nothing at all.

Hi Friend! I'm sorry to hear about the state of RS3 and i can't imagine the feeling of what it's like to be an RS3 player right now. We will all be more than excited to see your next journey on OSRS! Have you considered "starting fresh" on your group account, but as a bronze man? This will allow you to continue that character and your audience will already be familiar with the progress you have. The restriction of being a bronze man plus the freedom of being a main should allow you to set yourself plenty of goals per "episode" without the tediousness that'll lead to burnout.
I'm sure that you have plenty of other people to ask, but i'm a maxed iron that's ranked at pretty much every boss and i would be more than happy to share my knowledge with you and teach you the basics of TOA and TOB and leagues whenever that comes out. ❤

Gold Party Hat/Green Santa Hat/Purple Ween Mask were the beginning of how their MTX was changing. Aurora Dye followed by Soul Dye? Devalued clues. The amount of DXPs being pumped up = more MTX. The crazy amount of proteans lowering the value of herblore supplies & 200m runescrafting just being a joke now. Construction crazy quick to level with the Fort. I got my damn Baba Yaga off of proteans turning them into frames! The amount of FOMO they instil in events like Golden Cape where you felt obligated to be logged in as much as possible either gathering or PVMing.
Necromancy I think most people expected it to be released in a weak state + to build. Instead it's overpowered, and the fact we're missing 23 skill tree points + where it's at is 18? Is further fear for that power creep.
Hero Pass was my final straw. I didn't enjoy logging in anymore. 3 days ago I made an OSRS main + am loving it! I am loving my achievements, quests & levelling meaning something.
And then Monday I received that discord notification for Rs3 update. Life refreshes/aura refreshes/VIPs & herblore meaning nothing for a week. So many PVM rare drops being worthless thanks to Necromancy + what? They devalue it even more? And what's their solution? "We'll bring the other styles up to where Necro is" - Great solution. Round of applause.
Mod Doom says he's coming in to be that "Community guy, voice for the community" bugger off. You listen to us & do the exact opposite.

It sucks that you feel the way that you do, but I fully understand it. I started with your RS3 content. And I'll still consume whatever content you end up doing.
I personally love Necromancy, it's got me doing content I never really felt good enough to do even in my 22 years of playing this game. But then the Hero Pass happened. I didn't care that much. I heavily dislike battlepasses like it, but I don't necessarily avoid it (as in stop playing). But once I saw the buffs I almost quit. But starting an HCIM and just going through the game semi-casually was mostly enjoyable. They need to fix low level combat for sure.
For the time being, until Leagues rolls around, I'll still be cranking RS3 (I started playing again because I'm burnt out on some big GIM grinds I just finished). But I hope you, and all the other creators out there struggling with this recent crap /are/ successful in whatever you choose to do. As someone has said. Check out Leagues. I've never had more fun in Runescape than I do with Leagues.

I feel like with how out of the place and strong necromancy is, we reached a point where even RS3 players, who have weathered multiple reworks and combat changes, even EOC, are feeling out of the place. The combat triangle is what makes runescape runescape. That extra element of thinking about strengths and weaknesses was just taken away and I don't see how it can be fixed when you have a de facto style that's jut neutrally stong against everythiing.

Hello waydot, maybe you can collab with others rs3 streamers/youtubers and create a group ironman, and if you manage to gather more streamers/youtubers maybe you guys can create 2 teams and compete with each other for achievments and all sorts of things, that would be amazing

You should what you enjoy because itll make your content better. Like you pointed out, there is way more osrs content out there, so it’ll be harder to stand out like you could amongst the lack of rs3 content but if everyone is jumping ship maybe there just won’t be the viewers.
Btw, what is the hero pass controversy exactly? I see everyone talking about it, but is it just a pass to get cosmetics or is there some p2w aspect that is worse than treasure hunter etc

The pass had very very direct PW2 content like damage reduction at Zammy and such

It started off as very predatory FOMO mtx. They also called it a major game update of september (which ppl do not associate with mtx), removed "liked" FOMO such as daily challenges, and was said to reduce FOMO but did the opposite: taking multiple hours everyday to complete without buying skips.
This pass also gave better and earlier rewards to premier members vs regular members, and it gave content buffs for clues ( step reduction), ed4 (20% damage reduction), and skilling.
All of that combined caused a major uproar. Jagex has backpedaled on a lot of it, but the impact lingers.

The excitement about trying old school wears off really fast when you actually start playing it.

It feels bad man. The game was looking so good for a bit there. I’m probably going to stick to FF14 for now since we’re in the lead up to the next expansion, but I’ll definitely come back to RS3 for big updates. Necromancy showed me that there is a ton of talent and care for the game among the devs and I hope that we see that again.
In any case, I’d love to watch you play through leagues!

It saddens me to see this. As a current OSRS player who has been watching your RS3 content for years, I know you'll have a lot more fun in OSRS though. The community will welcome you my friend, and nobody will blame you.

Edit 2: fuck the early game ! Start from your gim acc
Edit: wrote this comment before 2m into the vid lol
Long time RS3 player here that hasn’t had that spark for rs3 in a while, I’ think it’ll be dope as hell if you made an osrs main account. Everyone and there mom makes a osrs iron version acc, but with that said whatever acc on osrs wouks still be dope

Runescape as a whole is a constant burnout cycle. It should be very obvious to everyone by now. I'm maxed on OSRS and comped on RS3 and i've been juggling between them for as long as i can remember. Neither game will die, but both get extremely repetitive after a while.

if the osrs gim is a dead group, de-iron the account and move foward,

The appeal of your channel for me was just seeing you enjoying the game, getting sucked in and how infectious that all was. It would not be the same if you were forcing yourself to play a game you dont like.

I started getting back into rs3 about a month before nechro dropped w/o even knowing anything about it. After looking at the premium membership and the benefits it came with I decided to go ahead with getting it. I was having so much fun playing rs3 over osrs because it was a little easier and a little less grindy for the 1 or 2 hours I can play during the week. Then they dropped the hero pass and all the fun I was having went right out the window because now I feel like I have to log in every day and spend an hour grinding my daily points instead of doing what I want to. Which really hurts because I was trying to talk a couple buddies into playing rs3 w/me and now I don't want to recommend it to anyone.

If rs3 doesn’t respect player’s time. Just don’t give it the time.

In the end, it’s all about making money as a conte t creator. Just say you’re coming to osrs to have more viewers and earn more money. It’s gonna happen regardless.
