    Manual transmissions, the ultimate car security, ha. I love driving a stick and remember learning the concept of it while playing the video game, Test Drive, back in the early 90s. I first learned on a 5spd Toyota pickup and easily got the hang of it in 30mins.

    Oh man, that's well preserved T2. It's a different feel on the pedals in a T2 because they are hinged from the bottom. The one I had, reverse was sometimes difficult, if you don't push down in the right spot it ended up in 2nd . I had no idea they would explode in value. I am a really big vintage Audi junkie and have a couple of rare ones.

      It's easy. Literally if you go out in a manual you should pick it up in an hour (obviously you will stall). After driving for a week it becomes second nature.
      It gives you so much more control over the car; you can feel how the car reacts to how you treat it. Eventually the gear stick will pretty much become an extention of your arm, and in doing so, you and the car act in unison.
      The US is a culture obsessed with cars, and petrol and oil, so I dont understand how gear sticks are so unpopular... I imagine it's because you learn when you're 16 so are probably still a bit dumb.
      In the UK, if you learnt how to drive an automatic you would get laughed at.

    I drive a stick shift car every day. It is fun first but automatic transmission is way better in urban areas where we have stop and go multiple times in a driving session. On the other hand the manual transmission is easier to fix because it is less complex. So both are great in a different way.

    Another great episode of tire kickers Ross! 🔥🔥🔥 I actually learned to drive on a stick shift! My first car was a stick and I had to either learn how to drive it or ruin the transmission! Lol! Once again you deliver another great episode! The only thing I would have added to this episode is the fact that some stick shifts have the reverse shift near 1st gear and others have it near the last gear on the far right. I believe German cars have reverse near first gear? Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for another fantastic episode Bro! 😎🔥🔥🔥

    • @melissaeldridge2428
      @melissaeldridge2428 Před 3 lety +1

      @Clary Carson Yes, that's true - many of the German cars do have the reverse (to the left or before 1st gear) but ᗩᒪᔕO, now that there are more and more cars that are 6-speeds (rather than 5, 𝑜𝑟 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛 4 𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑒𝑑 𝑙𝑜𝑙) these also have had to change the position of their "original" Reverse gear.

Anytime I've decided to purchase another car , the very first info I find out is the type of transmission it has - If it's an automatic , it's an automatic pass for me !

    Manual is basically a thing of the past now. Your intro is too old school, maybe it's time for something more modern. Back in the day, I learned to drive stick in 10 minutes. Not sure if anyone should learn to drive manual by themselves with CZcams.
