The guy who died testing was Ken Miles, the guy being played by Bale in the upcoming film
Also, the accident occurred during testing at Willow Springs.
Ken died at Riverside raceway just down the road from me, i have been told the story of how it happened when i met a couple of his friends at the monterey historics, a tragedy that should not have happened...RIP Ken.
What a guy, sad that he got cheated out of the triple crown for racing.
I heard the transmission he was testing out in the J-Car seized.
@@mkilner sadly RIR doesn't exist anymore
Quote of the video.... "Theres the spray, pull out!!"
and followed by "Thank you very much sir"

1. I went to Le Mans in '80, '81 and '85. It rained in '80 and '81 but I never saw lightning.
2. If it's available I would love to see you run a Bob Tullius Group 44 Jaguar IMSA GTP on this circuit as was run in 1985. I remember lying in my tent in the campground near the Mulsanne Straight and listening to the Jags flying down the straight and I always wondered what it would be like to be in that car. It was a glorious sound for a gear head.
love this comment
There's a Group 44 Jaguar GTP in the HSO VLM GTPC mod for Automobilista. You should try it out if you're able.
What was it like seeing and hearing Porsche 935k3s?
@@hi_c.v7289 It was a glorious sound. My favorite will always be the Group 44 Jag but there's no complaining when it comes to Porsche
bgm1958 it’s an honor to even see a comment like this
Project Cars 2 just never fails to deliver in Immersion factor, that was amazing to watch!
Especially in vr
Y I love projects cars 2 and the first project cars weather wasn’t bad either
Absolutely agree, this looks so so good, not just that games are just gonna get better & better
It’s just beautiful 👍🏻
Yeah, I got the game a couple of weeks ago and I've been loving every minute of it
Long Nguyen Is it still worth buying, even 2 years after?
Noone delivers a spectator experience like you Jimmy. thanks a lot.
Who is Noone
Jimmy its lemon week and i wana se
Me its fucking qartine
The driver that you mentioned who was killed driving the J-Car (which was the test version of the Mk. IV) was Ken Miles.
S.Vishnu Vardhan have you seen the movie?
S.Vishnu Vardhan in my opinion the best movie, That was ever made isn‘t it?
S.Vishnu Vardhan in fact beebe actually took that decision but the officials only told him on the last lap that mclaren would actually win (the plan was to make ken miles win) and without radio at the time it was only too late when the team could warn him.
And btw ken miles ran the 1965 Le Mans but retired after 45 minutes because of gearbox issues.
(Beebe wasn’t a bad guy)
My favourite scene in ford v Ferarri movie is the Daytona race. Though not very accurate but the cinematography, the intensity & the music made me watch it again n again. Every scene in that movie is awesome.
You know what's more special about this cars and that long straight?
"No ABS"
There's a part in the 24 Hour War documentary with Dan Gurney talking about how he had to use the "chicken shit way of braking" by using the engine braking in the MkIV at the end of the straight.
Logan Palmer wasn’t it also to save the brakes from the extreme tempature a since the ford was one of the heavier cars?
12:25 "crashes happen very quickly"
well...
White House/Maison Blanche - nasty place to crash on the old Le Mans circuit.
I would definitely recommend the documentary '24 hour war' to all of you, its on amazon prime i think
The only thing I don't like is that the documentary completely glossed over the fact that Ford didn't design the MkI and MkII. It's cool hearing Dan Gurney talk about the MkIV though.
Just watched it, thanks for recommending
Henry Wardell it leaves out a small but major detail. The ford put crew used clothespins to poke holes in their tires.
Mike Russo Really?
OhItsThat yep. It lowers the tire pressure so the car has better grip.
PCars 2 videos never fail to entertain me, there is just something about it, that makes watching it really, really fun. Can't wait for Le Mans even more now.
Isn't this PC1? I can't find the Le Mans vintage track in PC2
1:13 "Decent version of Le Mans"
Name one sim where this historic version is better :)
@@grocam_ I drove the absolute SHIT out of that track. Loved it.
GPL, baby! No Ford chicane for a start.
These PC2 videos are so incredibly immersive. I watch just about anything you upload but these are definitely my favorites!
I did a similar race a few months back with one of my friends as in the 1967 Ford MKIV.
We did a 1 hour stint each with time progression on so that the two hours was like a full 24 hour cycle and we set it to rain at some point. It was one of the best sim races I've ever done as I had to drive for most of my stint at night in pouring rain. We won but it was scary and so much fun.
Honestly, it almost felt like I was there at Le Mans, its was so realistic.
If you have PC2, try a historic race at Le Mans or any of the other classic tracks with time progression on - you wont regret it.
24 hour race at Bathurst is also glorious as the sunsets and sunrises over the mountain are beautiful.
Great video though Jimmy - love your stuff!
Thanks Jimmy, great to see you back on PC2 again. Great to see you make use of weather and day-night-transition.
Hands down pc2 is one of the best sim racers for weather conditions
This is exactly why automobilista 2 is gonna be el danko
Absolutely brilliant this game is & vr it’s just beautiful
Imagine pc2 with gt sport graphics.....
You do a great job at conveying the immersion and the lively experience of driving a such car in such conditions, albeit on a sim, I really enjoyed watching that. Keep up the great content, Jimmer.
The weather/track/car combo in PC2 is the shiznit.
Great vid Jimmer!
Awesome video showing what makes the cars of this era so incredible and brutal to drive. pc2's ability to convey the feeling is unmatched. With the right ffb settings, good surround sound and a buttkicker or good subwoofer placement it definitely fools your brain. I've even got that feeling in your stomach coming over hills in a real car at times and it really puts a smile on your face. You need a nice wireless keyboard to button box mod mounted for when you have the vr headset, really adds to the experience and set up well you memorize where to reach pretty quickly.
Jimmy really is so good at commentating. He really knows how to make something exciting.
The lightning is fantastic!!!
Jimmy you deserve every single one of your followers, you are just pure entertainment to watch, basically commentating on your driving as you race, alot easier said than done, keep it up!
Loved the lightening lighting up the track amazing effect
WOW the lightning! I didn’t even know project cars could do that that and be old cars is just chills
Wow... As soon as the rain started falling, I just couldn't look away. It's so crazy immersive, even from the screen, absolute goosebumps, and you commentated it perfectly!!!!!
Your Background Trance Music is amazing! By the way, the cars back these days are more alien than modern cars today!
The weather looked really insane, great video! Can't imagine what it's like in VR!
I was just watching your video on the old Le mans layout in 1971. What a coincidence
*coincidence
That weather change, the car, vr and the commentary. There was something truly special about that video.
The test driver who was killed testing this car was Ken Miles, who is played by Christian Bale in the upcoming film.
dammit, Jimmy is a spoily boi!
GT40 MKIV’s are probably the prettiest Le Mans cars I have ever seen
Are you kidding?
Buster Nutt nope
While they are cool looking, the Ferrari P3 wins by a mile
Not even the best looking cars in the '67 race. They look pretty modern for their age though which is cool.
Are they still GT40's? I thought it was a re-design after regulations changed.
Did you save the clippings like I asked? I'm almost done making your hair doll out of my pubes but I need some head hair to instill your spirit in it. I can't wait until I see it hanging over your rig on stream. : )
WHAT
my longest WTF (10 hour version)
BRO?????????
This is my favourite cars in sim racing, pure driving and skill
Awesome, some butt-clenching moments there, even for me as a viewer :)
Spirit of Le Mans DLC for Project Cars 2 is absolutely brilliant, probably my best DLC ever.
Don't know how ol' jimmer does it, I crash on very easy and in the dry on PC2. Hats off man
Driver was Ken Miles. The car at the time had a honeycomb frame which was supposed to keep the car light and rigid but it didn't save him. This is why the MkIV in PC2 is so much heavier than anything of the time; because after that accident they added a heavy rollcage (which actually saved Mario Andretti's life in Le Mans)
Wow that is the most intence sim video EVER! I sat on nails the entire video..:) awesome experience..
Project Cars 2 & LeMans...glorious experience!
You had the crash in the same place as at the beginning of the Lemans 1970 movie. looked pretty similar too
At 4:43 Jimmer *grabs his keyboard all sneakily* even tho the weather was forecasted Clear in the intro 🤔👀
Clear is just the starting weather, it doesn't show the full forecast on that screen, he set it up for the weather to change like you can.
@@xtherealhughesy oh 😂
Jimmy do an endurance race stream like this after Le Mans 2019 is over!!
Jimmy, you are brilliant. Because of this video, I have found out the model of car that I saw as a model and has been bothering me for ages as I knew it was a porsche, but not what Era or model. Thanks to this video, I found out it was the lufthansa 908
The tune at the end of your videos is class Jimmy lad
3:35 watch the mirrors lol
F
i saw that lmaoo
Saw the movie, Ford v Ferrari (aka Le Mans 66), yesterday. Leave it to CZcams to put this in my feed. Good driving!
After the day I've had this is exactly what I need :) big thank jimmer. Keep up the solid work.
Hope your day continues to get better bud, and the stream is coming up soon
excellent driving. excellent commentary. excellent!
That thunderstorm was soooo cool!
Just noticed, if your voice was any higher pitched you have a very "Murray Walker"-esque commentating voice. Good vid as always
Well he did mention it before, which is why some simracing competitions invited Jimmy to commentate, i think it was last year and it was an Iracing series 🤔. When jimmer screams or gets excited he sounds exactly like Murray Walker
The visual effects on this game and video are amazing, I’m jealous jimmy got to do it in VR
Great content as always Jimmy
That was a fucking adventure, nice one mate :) I've got a Vive and an old wheel and pedals, I really should put the two together.
The name of the man who was killed was Ken Miles, and because of that crash, the GT40 MKIV was fitted with a roll cage and cages were almost required from that moment forward. The earlier MKI and MKII racing GT40s did not have roll cages to save weight. So there is your little tidbit of history
I love the GT40 and the hood mount mirror!
when you come here before Jimmer mentions everyone in Discord
:jimshitfaced:
:sdvpufferping:
Wow, Jimmy-Jackie Stewart has nothing on on you. Great running and thanks so much for turning me onto a great car and lineage that I had glossed over previously.
The music at the beginning is nice
F1 Elvis put me onto your channel... love it.. never watched anyone streaming or doing game play other than the lets play guys! love your presenting style and insights..
200 mph in the rain was as horrifying to watch as it must have been to play!
I must say that looked like a great sim experience
Another awesome video from Jimmy. I must try out PC2, looks incredibly realistic
My favorite mk is the mk2 WITH the Ken milles paint job
Ken miles, the guy who had was told by ford to cross the line as a trio for ford and not keep his lead after fighting for the race seat, was killed the following year during testing for the next GT40 developments. He was a brit
I cannot wait for the Valve VR to release. Looks a different level in VR.
The name of the test driver was Ken Miles. He was actually one of the winning drivers in the first 'ford powered le mans win'. He'll be played by Cristian Bale in the upcoming movie.
well done, i would have got through the dry bit and crashed in the rain! but somehow you got first in class, amazing job mate!
Henry Ford II gets WET when the Mk IV wins at Le Mans
Literally manifested that puddle into existence
6:38 That's Ken Miles you're thinking of Jimmy, he was killed at Riverside in 1967 testing the GT40 J-car. (Which eventually became the Mk. IV) Ken Miles is also in the Le Mans '66 film coming out in November, where he's played by Christian Bale.
I’ve done the same exact race in a 10 lap race after I watched the movie great fun.
Great video as always. But just a little correction. This is not the Mulsanne straight but the Hunaudiere straight😁
I enjoly a lot that you started keeping the mistakes , makes it more relatable and human ! Some tryhards may not like it , but it gives something personal :)
Love the Mk 4. Built a model of it once.
Awesome drive there Jimmer.
Great video! But I'm a Ferrari V12 man ;)
PMGF 🔥🤙🏻
bravo man that was sick
That haircut kinda screams "footballist" xD
Also, I still absoultely love the weather and day/night cycle in PC2.
What's with the new haircut? New upcoming Gran Turismo commentating assignment? Or have you lost another bet to Gamer Muscle again?
I really enjoyed the video, Jimmy!
Project Cars 2 can make a race look so epic
Another great video, always entertaining mate.
The driver that died was Ken Miles, the poor Ken, who was betrayed by his team. He died due to a lack of foreseeing by Ford’s engineers. Basically the first tests they did with this version of the car (the ford J 40, actually) showed that the rear hood, covering the engine, lifted by Bernoulli effect while at top speed (200mph or 320kph). They added a couple aluminum plates to keep it down but due to weight and price restrictions, they didn’t secure them enough for the G-forces and tensions the car had, and they broke in the last couple kilometers of the tests Miles was doing, so the hood lifted and he couldn’t control the car. It just spun at top speed, resulting in instant death.
1 of the best videos i've ever watched
Very cool actually. I really want a whole VR setup now.
Great vid Jimbo
oh that's insane! flying at night... 200 mph in the rain!!
hahaha Jimmy called the demon - talks about how puddles pull you.
Jimmy catches a puddle soon after...
I reckon that might be your best video yet! Awesome!!!
Great visuals!!!
The 24 Hour War was a good doc on this
Jimmy.... @6:47 the driver you are referring about is ken miles. He died testing the J-car aka the breadvan.
That 917k look mean from the back, reminds me of the Batmobile from Dark Knight
PC2 may not be the best sim out there, but the weather and day/night transitions are, by far.
I like Pcars 2 a lot. But is it a simcade? Or a proper sim?
@@shuntaro2408 It's absolutely a proper sim. Anyone who says otherwise is an elitist who conveniently ignores all of the wonkiness of every other sim out there.
So pleased that Jimmer is having such success online and in real life. Congrats on the R32, and good luck finding a new home x
Can't wait to do this on PC3
Awesome video mate, keep it up. Have you considered maybe doing a race in the new Ford GT around Le Mans
Little known fact: That Ford GT has TWO engines, the one behind the driver and the motormouth behind the wheel.
Good video. But I'd love to see a version of pre-pitwall Le Mans. If the developers worked on it you could even do a running start across the start-finish straight eg.tapping a key makes you run faster. Would also love to see a pre war Le Mans game with the Big Bentleys Speed Six's.
I’m here after the movie 😂😂 fantastic movie, I’ve watched it countless times! If you have a good sound system, you’ll definitely feel the rumble go through you!
Hahaha....PCars2 sure is good for racing in the evening/night with a huge storm raging mate......Did all of the above in the 917 in similar conditions...10/10. Hopefully they show in that movie about just how bad the gt40 was before it got sorted by Frank Gardiner.....there is usually a bunch of really important history missing in those movies....
Id love the watch f1 race at lemans
Channeling Claude Aurac at 4:24
Jimmy, with that headgear you look like the image in 'The Scream' by Edvard Munch 😂
