the lyrical changes from this to rob's "I'm Gonna Win" really have me feeling some type of way
Leyna Maves it feels cursed listening to this after I’m gonna win
Fun fact! There are FOUR versions of this song. The AOMF from the Pingry EP, the AOMF Demo from Complete Demos, the I’m Gonna Win demo that’s a Tally Hall song, joe sings, and then the culmination, I’m Gonna Win, by rob cantor.
Rob Cantor's version feels like a villain song while this has a much different vibe
@@melvincholy2923 I see it more as “I’m confident that I can overcome my issues because I’m stronger than them.” Especially when you contrast “I’m Gonna Win” with “Ghost” from the same album. I use “I’m Gonna Win” as a motivation song.
I know right
Now consider: All of my Friends, Tally Hall's I'm Gonna Win, and Rob Canton's I'm Gonna Win respectively as songs for a TV show character's descent into villainy

@@vigilabo3007 i know, i know, but it feels like this is a sadder version of a song sung previously in a musical
@@vigilabo3007 But can you imagine it reversed? A character isolates himself more and more in hopes of accomplishing his goals, until eventually he realises he needs his friends just as much as they need him.

i’d say the chances of that happening would be absolutely miraculous 👀
A lot of people talk about how "I'm Gonna Win" is like a grittier version of this, but honestly I see that one as a brighter one - this one has the perception of someone who's convinced themselves that everything is fine when it really isn't. I'm Gonna Win gives more of a feeling of "I'm a mess, but I'll put in the effort to improve," or maybe "things are a mess but we ball anyways"

@@adog3129 Honestly I can't hear the supposed RoE melody in 0:21 either. But I think the part the original comment was referring to is 2:14; notice how it sounds most similar to "Gliding around, without looking down, like a bumbling dragon I fly" from Ruler of Everything.
@@treyn.every time he gets to that part I expect to hear "How do you feel mechanical hands are the ruler of everything"
This song really captures how people with mental illness feel. “We’d assist if we really did exist”. For me I cling onto imaginary people when I’m upset, I know they aren’t real but they bring comfort. And that can either make it better or worse
I'm not someone with any sort of mental illness but I like to think that there are multiples me in my head, helps a lot when I'm in trouble or stressing out about things, I get to debate about other perspectives and have something to talk to.
Honestly this song hits harder the more I think about it.
Just. The whole concept of emotional repression and neglecting your own mental health and just carrying on like everything is fine.
"It's all in my head, theres no room to be blue"
It reminds me of a mindset a lot of those suffering from depression have and is constantly perpetrated by others around us who don't fully understand it- which is essentially the whole "your life is just fine so why are you sad when you have no reason to be? "
And the way it becomes increasingly more desperate sounding and discordant as the song goes on. Like a downward mental spiral.
As for the "friends" referenced, my personal interpretation is that the "friends" are actually real people, although toxic and constantly pushing the whole "it's all in your head" narrative. Until eventually he breaks this "friendship" off after realizing but the words still linger on,, basically that is to say it isn't necessarily the "friends" that are just all in his head but rather their words that have been so impactful in a negative way.
Hopefully this made sense but yeah just a personal interpretation 😭
edit: sorry to be that person but I looked back at this comment after like a year and realized how many likes it's gotten?? huh 😭😭 atp it isn't really /that/ many but dang /pos
Well maybe the friends aren’t “toxic” as much as ignorant/unaware of how it works, but I agree, and the more I think about it, it isn’t that great of advice for someone who’s depressed, especially because they might take it to mean that they are bad people for having sad thoughts, which is not the case at all. The mental realm is complicated and often similar words are worlds apart when it comes to understanding one another. I can’t help but feel that there were nothing but good intentions for everyone involved and that this is supposed to be more of a tragedy than anything
I have been personally called out
Or maybe the friends don’t exist and they’re all in his head?
I like to think of that he only says “you’re all in my head” because they tell him that his problems are in his head, and they have become the problem.
Maybe not the meaning of the song, but it is definitely relevant that it was written by a (alleged) schizophrenic
there are so many different fandoms in this comment section and its quite interesting (and by that i mean like two but that's still pretty interesting)

how can a song that ive never heard of in my entire life be so nostalgic?
maybe you've heard "I'm Gonna Win"
Welcome to tally Hall
Welcome to Tally Hall (ha pun). A lot of their songs are Like That. I attribute it to their and Rob’s career making music for Disney
The piano in the chorus does a build up of a G that is taken straight from a Doo-Wop chord progression, a chord progression known for being very nostalgiac and placing a hope in the listener. So it's probably because you've heard something like it before
I think that the song is about a man who has been recommended a therapist who helps him confront his depression. His friends (in my opinion) are real and have good intentions, but can't help, as they are not professionals, but help cheer him up if they can.
Really I thought it was just about a schizo, because all of his friends don't really exist, they're all in his head
I doubt it
human companionship helps better than any therapy. you've already lost once you've victimised yourself
@@marley0615 true. Therapy is a scam.
I don’t know about the therapy part, but the idea that his friends ARE real and he’s just started losing it would help explain why the ending sounds so dark, because if it really was just voices in his head, wouldn’t he accepting that, letting go and still having a positive outlook be a good thing?
not to be edgy but this song is very mildly sad

Fun fact: Former drummer Steve Gallagher actually sound engineered this song!
i feel like this hits so much differently after tally hall disbanded
What's the meaning anyways?
Maybe he's depression and his friends are trying to help but not well?
That's what I've heard, but not sure.
Hes depressed, but his friends keep telling him "that's it all in your head" everything will be fine" making it worse i think
cornspoon the friends don’t exist. It’s voices in his head that he shuts out at the end because he talks to the therapist man
I interpret it as he is depressed and uses imaginary friends to cope. when he "gets over" his depression he decides to leave his imaginary friends behind him ultimately making the cycle of depression continue.
If you take into account the other version by rob, the story seems to be a group of people facing against abusive homes and life in general using each other to keep on going
But the other version it seems to be one of the members have broken off and have hardened by their life and have gotten mean and ready to kill. Seeing the world as bleak and dark, that it’s really not all in their head and it’s not all right.
So the main idea from what I can tell is a group of people from abusive homes stuck together. Then after awhile one starts hiding their true feelings from the others after a tragic event, leaves them and goes on to be a fighter not just taking the punches life throws at you but punching right back in the teeth.
ah yes, he is depression
I've been creating imaginary friends for 4 years straight which really did help me to get over with my loneliness few years later and this is terrifyingly relatable
this is the song that got me into this silly little band and it’s my favourite one. guys pls come back I miss you

Something about the lyrical changes in "I"m Gonna Win" give me so much "post-villain development reprise" energy. I'm going to cry.
thematically this and rob cantors version are different, yes, but there is a fundamental connection between the stories told. here, you see a man spiral into the dark place and tell himself all the while that the crumbling security will piece itself back together in time, i just know it, if i let people help me and reach out or do as they ask all will be fine. robs version is, in essence, a man angry at himself. angry because he let these people walk over him and believed they were his friends. But he traverses anyhow and pulls himself out of that place under peoples feet, determined hurt and slighted that he will do the stomping instead, no matter how hard he may fall.
