I don't have much to add to the comments for this electrifying performance by my favorite vocal group. Patti says it but I would like to highlight that Nona Hendryx wrote "I Believe I Finally Made It Home" and "Touch Me All Over", among other otherworldly classics for Labelle. She has sole writing credit on those songs. She didn't write a song with 14 people over a sample of someone else's music. Nona CREATED these songs.
OMG....! I can't breathe....! This is a classic performance that still shakes every fibre in my body in 2018! Magical....BLACK...Gritty Soul. No other goddamn female group could EVER imitate...never duplicate. Patti, Sarah and Nona were fiercely ahead of their time and will always remain this way. Thank you Over30Pumas.... I truly believe that I have finally made it home! DAMN!

Patti, Nona, and Sarah sang like a full on choir from the generation before mine (gen x). These women were true singers from the soul. I loved their flamboyant style too. :)
This is amazing, it's only 3 women singing but sounds like a choir in my ears, they deserved so much acknowledgement then they received, They we're the full package, a super group! R.I.P Sarah da sorprano Dash!💐
HAPPY 78th BIRTHDAY BELATEDLY (May 24, 2022) TO OUR WONDERFULLY OUTSTANDING INTERNATIONAL GOD MOTHER OF SOUL MISS PATTI LABELLE! 🌹MUCH LUV 2 U MAMA P!😘
I love this! I've been revisiting a lot of Sarah Dash and Labelle videos after Sarah's passing. Sarah was so talented and beautiful, she will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace.
@K.N. Carter Sarah was so classy. Yes, Patti was the flamboyant, bombastic vocal powerhouse, but Sarah was so smooth, classy, controlled and disciplined with her vocals. Nona was more of the deeper husky whisper type voice.
In the 1990s, my husband and I were living in Boston and we saw Sarah singing with Keith Richards crew. I went to just see Keith, but Sarah was the a great surprise. She was as flawlessly beautiful, as ever and improved the vocals of Keith.
I wish and pray plead and hope that one day either the record companies or just the Labelle fans would complile all of the tv video and concert performances of these amazing women into a visual keepsake for the fans . Every time I see them perform whether it's from Back in the day until today , I'm transported into another dimension of educational musical magic and masterful performance artistry ! These amazing people are the truth ! Turn on your nightly news if you think otherwise. VIVA LABELLE !!!
I am with you on that. I am a LaBelle addict. I love their live performances. My favorite is "What Can I Do For You?" If anyone has any performances of that song other than what's on CZcams.....please upload.
...you know the live performance is so dope and you are totally captivated when the YT ad cuts in through SD's monologue and you are completely and deeply pissed at the break but still relish its capture! Just incredible and thank you!!
Patti is so entertaining!!! Hey girl, what you make tonight? Love her! Love them all. The dance breakdown was epic. Nona started shouting! Even the male audience member got happy. This is a spiritual experience, definitely shades of soul. Makes you emotional. Audience member at the end moving the microphone cord out of her way. So sincere.
LORD. HAVE. MERCY! When I interviewed for LYRICALLY SPEAKING in 1995, I discovered this footage and it still sends CHILLS up my spine and makes tears LEAP from my eyes! WE WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN is why I came here today but MERCY...ALL OF IT IS CHURCH/SOUL/RAW/REAL...RIGHT!!!!!!!
I should be glad that these videos even exist, but having seen Labelle several times in the 70's and a couple shows during their reunion tour I cant help wishing the sound quality was better. There was nothing quite like them live. The harmonies were amazing. 3 rich powerful soulful voices. They were the real thing! And Patti in her prime........FOR - GET - A -BOUT - IT!!!
Love Patti, Nona & Sarah, from 1963 at The Uptown Theater in Philly all the years and wonderful music through 2009, at The Apollo for the reunion of LABELLE !!!
There is a new documentary out about this tv show “Soul”. It is currently being shown at the Tribeca Film Festival in nyc. Finally a tribute to Soul and wonderful program that was shown on tv from the late 60s to the early 70s. The name of the doc is” Mr. Soul”
I always thought that LaBelle was better as a trio than a quartet. It was a better move that Cindy Birdsong left in 67 to go with the Supremes because LaBelle was able to re-invent themselves as a funk rock band and it worked.
@@abdurobinson6827 okay you gotta look at it from that time. They got almost no recognition until lady marmalade. Records didnt sell. They got lost in the rubbles of that time and then when they did Lady Mama live they would only be popular for another maybe two years after that and then Patti would have a long struggle for another close to 10 years until she made a name for herself just remember she was nowhere close to where all the other Divas had been or were until like the mid-80s think about it on versus she didn't do any old old material from the bluebells or LaBelle all of her material started around the mid-eighties on up when she did the battle with Gladys , Gladys took it all the way back to the 60s because her stuff was charting then Patty stuff was not charting in the sixties or in the 70s either however Patty was just as good she just couldn't chart
Ron Williams I’m talking about Their performances. I watched so many LaBelle performances and I was blown away. The Supremes sales were bigger but all of LaBelle had great voices each could hold their own. Yes by time Patti went on her own it did take some years to find a hit record. There is no denying that her voice has made up for what she may not have done in sales if that makes sense
This is an awesome piece of music film footage! I always loved and respected how they were a GROUP! No one member was more important, than the other. They were and still are, under appreciated!
The first time I saw patti and the blue bells was on ameture night at the Apollo in 1964 you never walk alone priceless nona I had a crazy crush on her way before they were famous
@over30pumas Have friends who privately shared original copies of this and other vintage Labelle video performances. I admit to posting many of the performances publicly for the for time on YT (the BBC "You Turn Me On", CBS's That's What's Happening Baby "You'll Never Walk Alone", Chameleon Come With Me/Come Into My Life, "What Can I Do For You" edit from "Midnight Special". I broke the veil, rejected those who held these treasures for "ransom" $$$$$ over the years. There is intense general interest in seeing these historical performances, so I couldn't resist sharing. Hopefully the aging Labelle video mafia and censors won't remove these. Much appreciate for this... I'll one up you soon... Ib Diop
