I never went to dances back when I was in school, but had to learn when I went into the Corps and I basically know how to 2 step, Waltz and Swing. There are a couple others, but I really don't remember much of them. This video is soo much better than other 2 step videos!
This was easiest for me to follow than most other tutorials. It is true, if you master the basics, you will still look good on the dance floor. Thanks for uploading.
exceptional teacher...direct, right to the point, he demands you listen and follow instruction. Old fashioned teaching at its best. He's not your buddy, he's teaching you something you don't know how to do, it shouldn't be all fun. He's demanding you learn. That's the best type of teaching there is...glad it's back in vogue.
6Years later this is still relevant. Having two left feet (flat) and an alarming lack of rhythm, this is very easy for even me to pick up. They show the movements clearly with good explanations and good humor. Being able to rewind helps, of course. Much better than the crowded nightclub lesson we tried. Thanks.
2:23 "even though you're doing beginning patterns ... even while doing basics, you're gonna look GOOD when you're out on the floor" - #truth! my GF & i camped out on this video & have nailed the basics & we regularly get compliments from people seeing us TEXAS 2-step (not other two step variations) ...
This video represents 'old school' Country 2-step teaching. As leaders, we do not push, shove, crank, or pull our partners. The lead changes his frame, and the follow responds. Modern Country 2-step is a passing of the feet, not together. Turns are led; the follow turns herself. Each partner needs to know their own part!
I started four other videos before watching this one through. Some others were still talking 5 minutes before they ever took a step. This instructor spoke briefly, started moving and explained variations. Thank you!
Thanks for the reference to the instructor, Wiley Hicks Simpson. It enabled me to find the DVD version of the video Invitation to Dance available on Amazon.com. What became of his dance partner in these videos, identified in the credits as Teresa Broeder?
I used to dance at a club called the north forty in russellville arkansas. I used to teach these dances. The last dance that I taught was the 10 Step what we call slappin leather those were some good times. I won quite frequeñtly
It's important to point out in each & every video that there are ONLY two (2) dance styles done on ANY social Dance Club/Lounge anywhere in the World. Spot/Rhythm & Progressive/Traveling. The congestion Problem (s) we all run into these days is that Dance Instructors do not continually reinforce (Over & Over/ Ad Nauseum ),...... All Spot/Rhythm Dance Styles should be done in the CENTER of the Dance Floor,......Progressive/Traveling Dance Styles are done in the two (2) outside lanes of the Dance Floor. Slower Progressive/Traveling Dancers on the inside Lane & the faster moving dances in the Outside FAST Lane. This way, we can ALL perform our dance of choice at the very same time to each particular Music Selection. Thank You!
and for those of you who don't know about country dancing this is actually the Texas two step, but this version is mainly used for big dancehall dance competition where are generally the crowd is older and you don't have a whole bunch of kids just wanted to walk twirl spin-flip and all of that stuff so get yourself correct, this is a great instructional video for those of us and not you young kids who don't know what the hell you're doing and don't really want to learn to country dance and has really fell off, #JustSad
I'm from Texas and it looks just like the Texas Two Step to me. The comments that are saying it's not the two step are simply thinking that the basic steps are solely the Texas two step. You can do it that way but everything on this video is right too, there's even some more moves that he didn't show.
Ppl get regular two step confused with Texas two step. I grew up in Texas lived in the honky tonks this is the TEXAS TWO STEP. Of course as you get better, you add your own twirls , flourishes etc. or as o used to think “ show off “ lol. Good times.
Now, THIS I understand! This instructor is good. Most instructors simply repeat this stupid mantra: "Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow" mantra that doesn't describe anything. It sounds like a blind old woman giving you useless driving directions from the passenger seat by saying: "Turn, turn, turn fast!, turn".
For instance at a bar my uncle and aunt go to they do a texas two step that includes putting the lady behind and at the side, and he has been doing the two step for almost 50 years!
I was a dance instructor at Rodeo Dancehall and Saloon back in the day! I really miss those days. So much fun! The funniest thing was when two pretty blondes from Texas asked me to teach them a line dance. I was a little surprised due to them being from Texas and me from Pennsylvania. They also offered me 200 bucks for my cowboy hat! To which I said, I can’t part with my trademark!
That is the way I learned to two step. Currently, I'm finding videos that say, "Country Two Step" and it looks nothing like this or anything I've ever done.
Sorry this is all I have. This came from a video that had other country dances on it. Besides I found this video in a bunch of clearance sales item at Fry's Electronics !
For those who are confused: This is standard country two step as it has always been danced. The Texas Two Step? Who knows, many will give you different answers. The point is this is real Two Step as taught in any dance studio or danced on any country dance floor and has nothing to do with Texas. I know because I teach it.
If you have rwally been doing it years then you'd know there are different versions of the two step! Facing eachother is more for dance shows and competitions, this is a nightclub/bar relaxed version, I know this cos I have family who were born and grew up in Arizona.
None of the women in the video seemed to observe the technique with the thumb on the front of the man's shoulder for tension. They just rested their hand on the top of the man's shoulder.
Hello there, do you know what is the name of song at 10:15? I wish I could find it on internet to download it. I would really appreciate any help on that.
hey dude this is not the texas 2 step, you almost got it, on qq the feet do not come together, they pass each other and the dance progresses down the floor at a fast pace, and on the turn she needs to be prepped on the 2nd slow
I have never seen step together. I’ve been taught quick quick slow slow. So, instead of together you do two steps that are quick then two steps that are slow. I guess it’s how you choose to do it as long as both ppl in the couple know what is going on.
I'm sorry but this isn't Texas 2 stepping I come from a long line of country folk and I've never seen anyone do it like this and we do it step to the right first non of this on your side stuff
This is EXACTLY how I learned two-step as a kid in rural Texas, the other videos I came across don't bring the feet together on the quick step.
You don't bring your feet together anymore because that's outdated... 2-Step has evolved it's a very Progressive dance!
@@danstafford5977 no it ain’t, it shouldn’t be, just like that music on the damn radio ain’t country, original country, original two step.
72 now. Could never dance. You taught me more in 10 minutes than I learned all my life. Thank you.
I never went to dances back when I was in school, but had to learn when I went into the Corps and I basically know how to 2 step, Waltz and Swing. There are a couple others, but I really don't remember much of them.

Much more straight forward than some newer lessons. Less is more! Instructors did great back then!
This was easiest for me to follow than most other tutorials. It is true, if you master the basics, you will still look good on the dance floor. Thanks for uploading.
Well said.
Finally! Someone who know how to teach the steps, and the why, without all of the quick crap, that's confusing. Thank you.

This video helped me tremendously when I lived in Forth Worth, Tx. I had it nailed at the club in no time. Thank you

This looks better than the lazy looking “modern” 2-step. 🤷♂️
Great blend of good humor/upbeat, care for the novices, and fun. Subtle, but fun. Good instruction.
I learned more here in 20min than in an hour of two step dancing lessons
I started four other videos before watching this one through. Some others were still talking 5 minutes before they ever took a step. This instructor spoke briefly, started moving and explained variations. Thank you!
This is the first video I see that actually taught me something. Thanks!
Ramon Hernandez me too! Lol. I don't care if it's old school.
much easier than those 12-step programs
HaHa! Good one!
lmao u made my day
Bob Dobbs Nightclub two-step
Hilarious
R.I.P. Wiley. I ran across this video today and as soon as I realized it was you teaching, it made me very sad. You will be missed.
Thanks for the reference to the instructor, Wiley Hicks Simpson. It enabled me to find the DVD version of the video Invitation to Dance available on Amazon.com. What became of his dance partner in these videos, identified in the credits as Teresa Broeder?

I like the “whoa” command. Gets me in a country mood

Lol damn you sound so bitter and jealous
This is more closely how I learned the 2 step out in San Angelo in the early 80’s!
Been dancing this way over 20 years, this is awesome instruction I show to everyone who wants to learn to 2 step
I'm from Texas and it looks just like the Texas Two Step to me. The comments that are saying it's not the two step are simply thinking that the basic steps are solely the Texas two step. Terrific instruction strong masculine and feminine represented
4:08 this is awesome. best dance instructors ever.
Very well done! Finally, an accurate Texas 2 Step dance lesson.
Since 80's has come back in style I need that shirt... Ha ha.

Need that sawdust … Good times in Dallas two stepping closing down the club. Music was better then too. Rocky Mountain jeans FTW. 😉
Good video. My hubby and i will practice.
Good in structured well some looked relaxed
That is the way I learned to two step. Currently, I'm finding videos that say, "Country Two Step" and it looks nothing like this or anything I've ever done.
The country two step is what I am most familiar with. I guess it depends on what crowd your around.
loved it simple clear explanation
Love the clear direction. Are there other videos by this instructor?
You're an awesome instructor
A great way to learn,thanks.
Wouldnt mind dancing with her !
Excellent simple instructions!
Now we can all prove that we know how to Two Step.
I couldn't stop looking at Trese's legs. Spellcheck on that.
And she's cute to boot.
lol agreed
It would be nice to see more of Texas two step in Utah/Idaho. Swing dancing and line dancing dominate at venues
Love this dance
Know this stuff before going to the Broken Spoke!
I’m going in three days
Excellent lesson!
This video is just perfect
Sorry this is all I have. This came from a video that had other country dances on it. Besides I found this video in a bunch of clearance sales item at Fry's Electronics !
Man, I want to go out and buy Theresa's outfit and get my hair all big and hit the honky tonk tonight!
Great teacher
It looks like they are inside Texas Hat and Company in Dallas dancing and filming.
For those who are confused: This is standard country two step as it has always been danced. The Texas Two Step? Who knows, many will give you different answers. It's not the 2 step we did in Texas in the 70s- at all!
Great video! Thanks! Please do one for the Texas Polka.
He sure makes it easy to understand
great video
Certainly a video before the internet age came along. lol
I love Texas
If anyone wants to see a good two-step video , watch John Travolta and Debera Winger, in a video from Urban cowboy.
He'll ya
+Kilhamjim Yes
Ha ha. Just watched that prior to this video. Dudes a boss
If you dance like that you'll be getting a lot of funny looks!
This looks about right.
Any chance of getting the rest of this uploaded? Out of all the two step videos I've seen, this was probably the most effective.
Country dancing is so simple for Mexicans we mix it up a little with the rancheras norteñas style of dancing
She has some nice pins...
If you have rwally been doing it years then you'd know there are different versions of the two step! Facing eachother is more for dance shows and competitions, this is a nightclub/bar relaxed version, I know this cos I have family who were born and grew up in Arizona.
There’s an Alpha Male right there. He says jump, you say how high 😎
Been better with a little
"Cowboy Rides Away"
if you look carefully, sometimes his feet passes and other times they don't. so....
Old style. It’s not done this way for ages
hahahaha. That shirt.
None of the women in the video seemed to observe the technique with the thumb on the front of the man's shoulder for tension. They just rested their hand on the top of the man's shoulder.
To the point
change of direction,it is not changing of movement-direction ! it is change of facing-direction !
whats the name of the song?
The ‘quick quick’ should also be passing feet, just shorter steps than the slow slow. This version is like a combination of polka and two step 🤔
I need to get it
Can't wait til the halls reopen.... :((
Una chica argentina mirando esto jaja 💚
Cooooool... where do a get rhythm Bruno1912
Hey, do you have the second video?
Does anyone know who this instructor is? I like his method of teaching.
Me two, I like straight and direct talk, not worthless talk that goes on and on
Wiley Hicks and Tresa. You can get his Country Dancing DVD on Amazon - mainly from a 3rd party - used and new.
Hello there, do you know what is the name of song at 10:15? I wish I could find it on internet to download it. I would really appreciate any help on that.
Im a Linedance now a Two step

This is out of date .He ain't packing a gun .
lmao!
It sucks being 6'4''when trying to learn to dance. I always feel weird with most ladies at 5'5''..
I would like to know that song!!!

Did you ever find that song at 10:13?
First song is Crystal Gayle - Anchor Deep
