    You know that's the prettiest thing about Czech. Every character has its distinctive sound and basically what you read you say. There is no accent. English speaking people tend to search for some tongue twisters when there are none. Spelling the word quickly in this case would be more close to the right pronunciation to actually try to say it when you don't know the sounds of the character.

    • @dariusgaskin
      @dariusgaskin Před 8 lety +29

      Actually, you might have invented the language, but a language can be changed into many different dialects as well as accents. That is why some words are different in American English than in British English. For example, Fall and Autumn. So it is invalid to think that just because the British created the first form of the language that that is the only correct way to use it. It is also invalid to think that the American is saying it wrong when in fact there are many ways to use English. Sorry I had to give you a language lesson but ignorant comments annoy me.

In the USA, natives will speak American English, but someone who learns English in Europe will generally be taught British English because the British Council is the international authority on English as a second language. But sure if you learn in the US or the Americas in general it makes sense to learn American.

  • @gerardclarke793

    Yet again an American proves the ignorance of his people. A lot of the ways the Czech guy was saying the words were correct in British English. Also the way the czech guy said advertisement was correct in both languages. It's a common mistake that a lot of americans make to generalise the pronunciation rule from the verb "to advertise" on to the noun "advertisement". Long story short american dude pronouncing it wrong and has no idea that there are DIFFERENT ways of pronouncing things/different words that are used by other english-speaking nations around the world.
    Rant over.
    Czech guy wins.

    • @danielxmiller
      @danielxmiller  Před 8 lety +7

      Except you completely missed the fact that this video is about AMERICAN English, not British English. Obviously I knew he was pronouncing the British equivalent of the word, however I didn't make a video about British English did I? And even if advertisement is pronounced incorrectly in general that doesn't change the fact of how almost every American English person pronounces it, which is the entire point of this video.

    • @GodmyX
      @GodmyX Před 8 lety +16

      danielxmiller Actually you didn't make it obvious at all (nor is it written anywhere that it was only about the General American accent), you just said many times "wrong", when there are obviously (check e.g. Oxford Advanced Dictionary) more pronunciations. Even when you corrected "herb", you weren't aware that there exists an alternative in the American accents with "h" pronounced (again, check please some dictionary, for example the mentioned Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary which is free online).
      It would be better at this point if you at least partially accepted that you were wrong to tell him that something was outright wrong (because that's what you did), but simply that you had no idea.

    • @GodmyX
      @GodmyX Před 8 lety +1

      *****
      Ehm, sorry, you clearly know nothing of the pronunciation models and of the accents. In America there is so called GA (General American pronunciation that had its own separate evolution for the past several hundred years) and in Britain there is RP and it also evolved differently since the point they split. Please do your homework first before you post. What you say is absolutely preposterous almost to the point of ignorant.

    • @bremgill849
      @bremgill849 Před 8 lety +2

      I appreciate your clip and responses but it would be better to have openly acknowledge in the clip that he is pronouncing them right because what you do by ignoring it, is make it seem like this Czech guy has not learned english properly. Many people can see he has but there will be many Americans who dont see that and assume the Czech guy is saying it wrong because he doesnt know better. In this case you are really comparing 3 accents, Czech, British and American which is cool, the video just doesnt explain that to anyone.

      In school they teaching us British English mainly, but that words are not about British English, Michal's way how to say that is just more natural and logical for us. I've never heard someone saying "moubl" or "eeeb" here or in any European state. But many things we saying American way, for example fire and here, British fire sounds like "foja" and we saying it like "fajr". I'd like to know how Americans saying Iron, because we saying it like "ajron" mainly, but British saying it like "aaajn" with very silent J or maybe "ain" in English writing. And Czech pronunciation of garage it like that because it's almost same like Czech word garáž which is from French same like English version.

      danielxmiller It is not exactly how you think it is. We dont cut words out - we dont use them because we modify the word "red" in the form that replaces "red+is". For example red in czech is "červená" and red car is "červené auto". For us is funny that you have only one form of adjecvives... add just for clarification - "car is red" in czech is "auto je červené" in this word order we use "is" as well as you do :)

      Czech language is almost only one slavic language which using something IS (auto JE červené, dům je ošklivý....) another slavic languages really using only that "car red". I know for example in Polish you can say JEST instead of IS, but when I hear Poles, they really don't using it and saying it that "car red" way. They saying for example "Ty idiot" (You are an idiot) which is really weird for Czechs, we saying "Ty JSI idiot" :-D To that other slavs speaking like "you idiot" "you smart" "Putin debil" etc without that IS, which is weird for us.

I had such an easy time copying this compared to other languages! It was so cool! And I love that you get to roll your R's when speaking Czech. I have always had fun doing this.

    He is very fluent in English and he can pronounce the words well. He is very understandable and we do not have to learn his language which would be very difficult. With a bit more effort and if he wanted to do so he could eliminate almost all his Czech accent. Americans and other English speakers are way too critical of those who do not speak our language exactly as we do. What more of us have to do, as I did at 23, go to say Germany and see what it is like to get along there even with as many English speakers as there were! It took a huge effort. I am amazed that so many from Europe speak so many languages well enough to have political and economic discussions. My Norwegian relatives begin English at age 8 or so and all the books in high school and college are in English. I tried a few Norwegian words but never learned much of the language. I hope your friend likes it here and make him feel at home not in the least bit shy about his English!

    English grammar is very simple, yet most of the people born here in the United States cannot master English grammar. Czech grammar is far more complex, but at least Czech is phonetic (the pronunciation of letters is consistent). The fact that English has words like rough, tough, enough, though, through, and thought is what makes it so difficult to learn.
